Because the hamstrings go into the calf and connect up with the calf muscles. In anatomy the old chestnut "everything is connected to everything else" was never more true. Any good chiropractor will tell you that. Spinal problems can cause issues like plantar fasciitis (foot pain), hip pain can cause headaches, cervical spine problems can cause arm and hand pain.

In this case the muscles look like this

@Josephine , Thank you for this information!

I guess I really should get back on board with this recovery thing...my knee is doing well, but there are a couple of issues. The discrepancy in leg length is really affecting my walking and the leg that didn't have the revision...my hip hurts after a while and my quad gets tired, makes it very uncomfortable to be up and about as much as I would like to be!

Well honey, you're only 4 weeks out which is really really early. So resting lots is perfectly fine and fully recommended. You're not doing any exercises, are you?

@Josephine Truthfully no, I haven't been doing anything other than the heel slides and a few stretches...my heart is just not in it to do anything!

No need to apologise to me, pet! I would advise to not even do those. Just some gentle walks around the house on an 'as needed' basis is all that is required.

@Josephine I didn't mean to apologize, sorry! Just being a good Canadian I guess! :tada:

I have been doing too much going and not enough staying, it's hard not to, I think too much when I am sitting still. Seeing I am on a roll asking questions about the knee, here is another; right at the top of the incision scar is a bump, it's very sore and bruised, could that possibly be scar tissue? I try to rub it but it's way too painful, even the pressure of my pants will hurt it.

It might be an internal stitch trying to get out, can you post a photo?

@Pumpkln I took a picture with my phone but cannot get it to upload here. It's hard to see the bump itself but you can see the redness and bruising. It didn't even occur to me it may be an internal stitch...

When you hit reply, there is a little mountain icon, click on there, and download your photo. If you photo is too big, e mail it to yourself, you can downsize it before you send it. These instructions are for iPhone.
If you click on the camera it will access your camera, you take a photo and it will download.

@Pumpkln The quality is iffy...hope you can see what it is I am referring too, the bump isn't really visible though.

The incision looks healed, not sure why it is so pink, and sore, it is hot also?

Call your OS and let them know, they may want to put you on antibiotics.
It might be a minor skin infection. I just got over a skin infection on my non TKR leg, so want to error on the side of caution.

@Pumpkln My OS is on vacation until sometime next week...I don't have a family Dr atm, hoping to have one on Monday, I have an appointment with a new Dr.

There should be someone to take your calls at the OS office.

@Pumpkln I will call his office tomorrow to see if there is anyone there to talk to about this.

I wish it could be easy, this knee revision thing, none of this drama or these irritating little problems...

It can be so frustrating at times, like a roller coaster, a not fun roller coaster.
You are less than a month out and still have a lot more healing ahead.

@Pumpkln I just want to be done with it....for reasons other than the recovery, I wish I hadn't had this surgery at this time. The recovery is only adding to everything and it's hard...

I know you are having a rough time, there was no way you could anticipate the major turn your life would take.
Wish there was something I could say to make this better for you.
