6 month update RPKR

My right knee is brilliant, awesome and super, no pain or swelling anymore and the rom is better now than its been since I was in my 20's. I am very happy that I had the right one done!!!! It was a bit of a rough start but it was only for what seems now, like a short time, once I got past that, (knock on wood), its been smooth sailing with this knee.

Bonesmart is an awesome place to come to for information and support, and the people here are very welcoming, I would recommend BS to anyone have a replacement.

I am wondering if you don't log in for a while, all the posts you were following, do you just automatically stop?

One year later...

Today marks the one year anniversary of my LPKR...Its been a long year with regards to the ups and down of this knee, the first few weeks were normal, as I came to find out once I found Bone Smart, until I did, I thought that there was something terribly wrong. I can laugh now and say, the only thing that was wrong was my lack of patience, patience and more patience. Once I learned to slow it down some and listen to my knee, things went so much better.

Things were going well until I aggravated a Bakers Cyst in my knee, this has led to so many trials and a new management plan for this knee, it certainly slowed down the progress but it didn't stop it. Once I was able to work with, around and in spite of the Bakers Cyst, my flexion increased to a large degree, today it is 148 and sometimes a little higher.

I am back to hiking, biking and most things I love to do...my two children (8 & 4 yrs old) love that I can go and do with them again, its the most awesome feeling for me too. Last evening I went to the gymnasium with my 4 yr old and we played hockey, shot hoops, threw the football and just played. I was able to keep up with very little discomfort and I actually ran a little, a new milestone a year later...:yay:

Some days are still a struggle with my knee and its on those days that I wish I had not had it done but ask me on a day like I had today and I would jump for joy and tell you its the best thing I have ever had done.

I'm just grinning from ear to ear after reading your post, Tessa. There were a lot of ups and downs and encouragement was often needed. But YOU MADE IT to the end of recovery road!!!! I always knew you would---just had to convince you.

Your evening at the gym with your 4 year old and all that biking, hiking, and other fun stuff--shows that it was worth it. Yes, there'll still be days when it bothers you some---and it could be just from over doing and not because you had a PKR.

Take care and keep us updated. We love hearing from you and we care. [Bonesmart.org] Revision Completed...Ready to get back to my life...<

Just,

You know you couldn't 'have done it without our humor and fun! We love having a great time even if our knees are "progress in process!" We are winners and we never give up! I won't let such a thing as a kneecap sliding around stop me, and the challenges you have had seem o have made you stronger as well my friend!

P.s. when the bungee jumping out out the plane commences, it will be my honor to watch YOU go first! :happydance:

Thanks Sonja aka RestAssured...that laughter helps so much, humour and fun go a long ways to help anyone and everyone...I know I have had a lot of fun here with all y'all! I read your posts and keep up with you...the challenges you face with you knee and the positive attitude you have towards that and life, I have no doubt you will get that knee better and be on your way!

Now on to the really important matters...You will be watching ME go FIRST!!!!!!???? I thought it would be you going first...really, I did! I think that makes more sense just because.......

Just,

Now you know I am much too SHY to hog the spotlight so when I have the people from CNN filming I want you to get the glory! I will then give them an account of what a great person you were! Sort of a Eulogy, sounds nice doesn't it! :rotfl:

I will let you have ALL the glory, it may very well help you over your shyness....you know me, anything to help you out! :rotfl:

Oh but no,

I could not accept such a gracious offer in good conscience! I must insist that you go first my friend, test "the waters" so to speak!

Are we talking bungee jumping or sky diving here?...No matter, I will gladly step aside and let you reap all the glory and be happy for you! I will stand aside and cheer you...

Well, I have dreamed up a "NEW" concept to get CNN to film it! :happydance: We will strap you into a harness with a loooooonnngggg bungee cord complete with video and microphone of your face o people can experience the effects without being the daredevil that you are! After you have shot up and down say 100 times or so we will reel you back in, so you can finish talking about the amazing feat! :happydance:

I am thinking about how all this would work? :what: I will tell you what, you go ahead and test it all out and then I will jump first (really second but 1st in front of the camera)...sounds like a sound plan to me....:rotfl:

No can do Compadre! I am the originator of the idea, so I MUST be with the CNN crew giving an accurate account of the different types of screams, and words that you are using! After all, we may have to edit footage to be fit for tv viewing! :heehee: :rotfl:

Good thing then that my vocabulary doesn't include many offensive words... However, you know, I think that Campervan may want the 1st jump...ya think?

Well, if she does it will be ok! After all she is experienced so we can learn from her technique! Great thinking, Just! :)

Tessa, I've just had my RPKR and the left is to follow. How did you decide to space your ops - or was that on your OSs advice? Did the time between seem enough? Did each leg do a good supporting job? Thanks.

Hopper It was on the advice of my OS to space the surgeries out, he won't do two at the same time. The time between them was more than enough, three months would have been fine too, although at the time I was worried that even 5 1/2 months wasn't enough. Both knees/legs were fine, actually the 2nd knee was a lot better because I knew what was expected the second time around and what to do.

If you have anymore questions or anything, feel free to ask ok.
Take Care, T.
