Thanks BJ...have no other choice but to hang in there...! I am getting so sick of the icing thing, its been almost 9 weeks I think for the right knee and I just want this done with. Its been a long haul since May, I guess frustration is setting in and I just want to get out there into the mix once more. Yeah, after a particularly tough day any thoughts of skiing go right out my head so I get what you are saying about the snowboard being there but at the end of the day just don't wanna!

LOL yeah! After shoveling today because our snowblower is broken I feel even worse. I will see how I feel in the morning, but tonight I don't want to go to work in the morning... But being New Years Eve day I know that we will be busy too...

You will get there. I know it is soooo hard to be patient.

I shoveled a little on Saturday but we left the rest, last night the rain poured so allllllllllllll the snow is history! Hope today (New Years Eve) isn't too crazy for you and you make it through it in one piece and still have your sanity...:heehee:!

I am still sane, or so I think...lol, I don't think that I want to ask anyone else cause they might not agree with me. My left/unoperated on knee is so much more sore and swollen than my new improved right knee... lots of icing and elevating tonight. I did have fun teaching today and it was a beautiful day on the slopes.

A bit of an update! I was back on Friday to see the OS and I'm good to go! He asked me if I am really as comfortable as I look with the knees? I am! He was amazed at the recovery of the right knee (pkr Oct 24, 2012), its at 145 flexion and 0 extension (it was at zero right from the start), everything there looks good! The left knee (the one I had done back in May, 2012), is lagging behind the right one, its at about 128 flexion and 0 extension so it still needs a bit of work. I asked him about the slipping feeling I was getting in the left knee, he says its from the knee cap tracking a little, he lifted it (I think that's what he said) to take bone spurs off it. That was new information to me, also, the right knee didn't have any bone spurs so he didn't have to mess with it as much.

I am back to driving with zero discomfort, oh the sense of freedom I felt on Friday when my hubby passed me the keys, it was sense of relief too. I can also attempt downhill skiing should I want to....I am starting this afternoon with a couple of friends, a conditioning program to get the legs back in shape, hopefully by the end of February I will be back on the slopes, even if its just the beginners ones.

The difference in the recovery of my knees is almost hard to believe, so much trouble (still) with the left one and the right one breezed right on through it...maybe because I knew the second time around to not push things and let the knee/leg heal. It was a lesson learned for sure. For anyone who is having a replacement or just had one/two, patience is really the key, letting the knee dictate the activity level and listening when it says its hurting, and again patience. Its usually a long process that seems like there is no end to it, especially around the 4-5 week mark when you think you should be healed and back to doing what you want when you want. That's when you need to hunker down and realize you are in this for the long haul. It does get better, it does get more comfortable just that it takes time.

Before I left his office, my OS asked me, are you happy that you had it done? Without even taking a pause to think about it, my answer was a YES! Then he says, be sure to not fall at least for another few months...lol! He knows I am gung ho and can't wait to get out there in the mix again!

A GREAT UPDATE!!!! Ah, Tessa, I can well remember when you never thought you'd get here. Convincing newbies about the long recovery time can be so difficult---but mostly for them. I am so pleased and happy for you--- [Bonesmart.org] Revision Completed...Ready to get back to my life...< getting back to the slopes---enjoy but be careful.

Yay! Such good news Tessa!:happydance: I like that you're going to work on the conditioning program with friends. It always seems to be easier with someone doesn't it? Take care and keep us posted! :thumb:

Wow Tessa, That is soooo wonderful. You are doing great, you are driving, you are beginning your conditioning program. And you will be skiing before you know it. :happydance: Yahoo!!!! You go girl!

bottomshollow, I remember that well and I still have my moments when I think I should be doing more and lose patience with the whole thing but I know how now, to reel myself back in and get back with the program...lol! I have learned so much form other bonesmarties...they have been there and done that so who knows better than the ones who have been through it!

Lori-M, thanks and I was just so darned happy when the OS said, yes, drive....and do whatever you want now!!! Quads and calves are hurtin' a little tonight but its a good kind, I earned these ones, lol! Back at it again on Thursday morning!

How is your knee coming along? How are you doing?

BJ Mac....it feels good to be back at something, anything that is a physical activity...knees aren't so bad tonight, its the rest of me that is protesting but its all good. You have inspired me to get back out there to do something I love...thank you for sharing your journey...!

You are quite welcome. Just do not try to do too much too soon, you know, the setback thing that makes it take longer and all... Keep up the good work! :)

Lori-M, How is your knee coming along? How are you doing?
This week has been tough and I'm not getting the exercise in that I should. The weather here is cold and rainy too which adds to the "blues" I'm experiencing because of the lack of progress. I know it's a temporary mindset but I'm really tired of it all. Tomorrow WILL be better.

Lori-M, I hope you had a good weekend and you knee behaved. If your knee is anything like mine was (the 1st one), it will be getting better and you won't even realize it until you do something and realize it didn't hurt.:spin:

We went from a blizzard with hurricane force winds, loss of power to a rainstorm with hurricane force winds and now fog with rain. The snow is all gone again, we had it for a few hours at least and the kids did get to go sledding last evening, even though it was raining. I even took a ride and it was sooooooooooooooooooooo much fun and didn't hurt at all. This is what its all about, having these pkrs, to get back to being with my kids and having fun...:tada:

having fun again with the family is what these surgeries are all about. So glad you made it!

JustmeT - Thanks for the shout out Tessa. It sounds like you had a great weekend! Mine wasn't too bad; I overdid it and ended up taking Monday off of work to rest the knee a bit but I enjoyed it. We celebrated my mother-in-law's 83rd birthday with the family on Saturday. Sunday we had to take our vacuum in for its annual tune-up and took our dogs along:puppysmooze: so while we were in Puyallup we looked up a park to take them to and wound up at Bradley Lake Park which had snow on the ground from an earlier snowstorm. Just a crusty layer left but it was COLD! And I wore myself out a bit climbing up and down the bank along the lakeshore. It was exhilirating but exhausting too. Got this great photo though!
