I fell today.....stepped out of the van (I was driving), didn't know anything before I was flat out on the ground...I didn't feel any pain or anything, I didn't trip, it just felt like my knee gave way. I twisted so I didn't land on my knees and bruised the upper part of my calf...it was weird. My knee (left knee) is a little stiff and achy now. This was so weird....

having fun again with the family is what these surgeries are all about. So glad you made it!

Thanks Judy, it was awesome just getting out there to participate and not just watch from the sidelines....

I'm so sorry you fell Tessa, glad there wasn't serious damage done. It does sound weird the way you described it. Take care my friend! :friends:

Sledding was soooooooooo much fun...I am not going to attempt skating for a while yet me thinks, the ice is less forgiving than the snow.
Yes, I would say knee pads are a must for the ice skating. You really do not want to land on the ice on your knees. I hope that you are feeling better from your fall soon. ((((hugs))))

Knee pads...what are they like? I will have to do a google search me thinks!

The knees are a little uncooperative this morning after their adventure yesterday but nothing too serious.

Just found out that my 3 yr old has an ice skating activity in the near future, his dad doesn't skate and mom is not about to attempt it yet, so I am gonna have to talk  someone into going with him. They have to have someone on the ice with them at all times.

Its been 3 months since I had the rpkr and it seems the exhaustion is catching up with me or maybe I am exhausted trying to keep up with myself. The knees had an off day today, been working them too hard, between the shoveling, the kids sliding and the all the extra curricular activities in the past couple of weeks, I had to have a day off. The Baker's Cyst is giving me some trouble again in the left knee, it had calmed down and I hadn't really felt anything from it in a few weeks, then last week I fell and that must have aggravated it again. Gotta get a handle on that baker's cyst thing because winter will be gone again before I get a chance to enjoy it (skiing and snowmobiling).

Amen to what BJ said! Take care Tessa. You'll be back playing in the snow before you know it but listen to your knees!

Don't ya ever get tired of listening to your knees? I know I do!...Slowing down is even harder to do, even before the pkrs when they would groan and moan at the thought of just taking a mere walk, I found it hard to slow down....but alas, I did take the morning off and do nothing just had the knees up and babied them for a bit. Back at it this afternoon though...things need to be done! Thanks BJ Mac and Lori-M....I always appreciate your support!

Tessa, I don't know how I lost track of your thread, however I have found you and just played catch up. I'm glad your OS had an explanation for your knee cap that seemed to give way, however if you have any other unexplained falls like the last one, I would give his office a call and let him know because he may want to check it again. Who knows, maybe there's and exercise that you can do to strengthen the muscles around your kneecap to stabilize it. Just a thought!

You certainly do have a precious little boy and girl there, sweet! :)

Also, can you do me a favor? Can your remember that, yes you are young, but you are not invincible! Do take care and go just a little bit slower! We care and we don't want to see you hurting!

Stay well and enjoy that young family of yours, there's a lot of good years ahead of you! :friends:

Yes Tessa, I do get tired of listening to my knees. When I do it though, my knees and the rest of my body is sooooo much happier. Now there are so many times that I just plain do not listen to them and I am sorry later, and I pay for it BIG TIME. Hang in there and force yourself to listen to them as much as you can. ((((hugs))))

Hi Tessa - just found your thread and got caught up. WOW! You've been busy! You make me tired just listening to your antics! No wonder you have earned a day or two to rest up! Do it so that you can enjoy the rest of the winter up there. On the moving kneecap thing, until you chat with your OS - some years ago my kneecap was having trouble tracking the groove in the femor - not uncommon in women because the groove is wider and less shallow than in men). My ortho had me concentrate on strengthening the quads to keep it alligned. So when PT says to do those quad sets, pay attention.... Good luck - and make a snowman for me! We don't get much snow by the ocean in Los Angeles!!

Hi Jacky, nice to see you again! :)

Yeah if I fall like that again I won't be waiting until my next appointment in July to see my OS, it wasn't a pleasant sensation, falling like that, lol!

Thank you, both my kids are cuties but like any kids they are trying at times, lol, especially right at this very moment...hahaha! They are 4 yrs apart in age and don't see eye to eye on lots of things (girl and boy also)! Lights of my life for sure. Slower, I don't know the definition of that word, :heehee:!

Like you, when I do listen, the knees are so much happier but the brain insists on telling them they are wimpy, :heehee: ! With two kidlets that each have pretty full schedules, its hard to slow down and when they need to be outside they have to be supervised. I do try to rest once in a while just it doesn't happen often.

Hi Lynn, nice to see you again!

Winter here has been an on again off again thing, we do have a little snow again now but there is so much ice underneath it, not conducive to snowman making. When we do get the right type of snow I will make a snowman (using my kids as an excuse to do so, hahaha) and try to remember to take a pic of it.

My son wants to go swimming, he isn't fond of the snow and hasn't been right from the start, he would like it where you live just so he could go swimming when he wants.

I am so sick of shoveling snow....two blizzards and a snowstorm since Saturday...I thought the knee pain was gone but I was so so wrong! I guess one can still overdo it even after 9 months (L) and 3 1/2 months (R)!!! You would think I would have learned my lesson by now? I was feeling good about the knees until I put in another couple of hours shoveling this morning, been doing lots of walking too...anyhoo, its never too late to still overdo...when will I learn to not go all out but at half speed...lol!?
