Op was off - and then on again!

Hi, Natalie! You sound so much more positive about things now than you did a few weeks ago. I can hear it in your words.

I had my physio assessment today and it went very well. My problem is that while I was getting ready to go, I became horribly nauseaous and really sweaty. It happens everytime I try to do anything much at all. I am just so very weak. I seem to remember you saying something similar in your first weeks too. Do you remember when that feeling left you? I am just over 2 weeks, so I am probably trying to feel better too fast.

Anyway, keep up the good work. I got some new excercises today, too, cause my hamstrings are a little too tight. Hope you have a great day tomorrow.

Hi Maggie, just curious - are you taking any blood thinners? I had the same sweating, nausea and dizzy feelings while on blood thinners.

It could also be your pain meds making you a bit sick. You might want to check with your GP and see if adjusting your meds makes things better.

Take care!

Yup I got it for the weeks I was taking my blood thinners and whilst I was on Tramadol.

I also still get it every so often now,I think it is a combination for me of lack of sleep and very strong meds.I almost feel like I haven't ate enough?Do you feel like that?I have noticed I have been very sweaty and hot since the op again it could be a side effect of the meds.

I try to get ready slowly and just take my time with everything especially back when I was only a few weeks post op take care huni xxxxx

It's funny you mention the hot and sweaty bit. I have had that since my op as well. Some days are better than others. Until you mentioned this I didn't connect the two but it has happened since my surgery :skp:. Not sure it's the meds since I am not on anything very heavy duty.

Hi Maggie, I did have the same blood balance problem just out of hospital. I wouldn't worry about it. It does take time for things to settle after such a big op.

Tell your PT you are worried about weakness and passing out. They will certainly understand and work with you. It took me a good couple of weeks after being on the blood thinners to get over the dizzy stuff.

Take care!

I went out with the girls for the first time on Saturday night for a few drinks (non alcoholic for me!) and as I was getting ready the sweating and dizziness started in the end I had a lay down for 15 minutes and then started again! It's awful!

Anyway I had a great night a real giggle with the girls and my knee felt ok all night till about 1030pm when I took some meds I was home by midnight. When I got up yesterday my knee was sore but no worse than usual by 4pm I was in complete agony and I had the worst night I had for a long time and upped my meds yesterday evening and this morning and I am still in agony,I have done my physio in case it was stiff,it didn't help and I have iced and used heat and elevated still no relief :( So ONE night out equals utter agony I am so upset as I really enjoyed myself and felt like things were getting back to normal :sct:

So sorry you are hurting, Natalie. I don't know what time you went out, but assuming you left around 7 p.m. and got home by midnight, when you count your prep time....that WAS a pretty big evening all of a sudden. It 's understandable that your knee might hurt some afterwards.

You know the routine....you'll need to rest, ice and elevate and it will be okay again soon. Sometimes it's difficult to find that perfect balance between rest and activity. But I know you'll get there!! At least you have some great memories to relive while you are icing and elevating!

Unfortunately the first time you try something out of your usual routine your new joint objects a bit. But next time it will be easier. And the time after that you will marvel at how much better things are. All part of the recovery I am afraid.

As Jamie says - you know the routine. Take it easy for now. There are many more girls nights out in the cards for you!

Bless you - and you so deserved a night out with the girls! Glad you enjoyed it!

Today is a great day :)

Despite the pain I had since my night out I achieved 100 degrees ROM in PT today that is the first progress I have made in 6 weeks!!!!I was literally jumping for joy and I was so so happy!

He has given me some progressive exercises to try squats and heel toe raises and I tried them and felt comfortable doing them :)

I cannot tell you how good it feels to have made progress!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope your all doing well on this fine day!

Yahoooooooo! What great news Natalie! I'm so happy for you. Keep up the great work. You're really getting there! :jump:

Hi Natalie:
I am very happy to hear you are getting out and reclaiming your life. I am having the same issues as you but at a later stage and with more activity. I do remember that earlier in my recovery just going food shopping was a painful chore.

You MUST continue to push for your quality of life, even if it means a fight with your knee. Don't over-do it though.

I was told not to do squats of any kind. At all. This was from a revision specialist whom I consulted about persistant pain in my thigh. He told me to "live my life, do my thing" and stop concentrating on my leg strength. As my knee is healing, my leg is getting stronger. ON its own. I do heel slides, straight leg raises and core work.

Make another date with the ladies again. Drink something stronger, and have a good time!!!
Sandy

Natalie....obviously girlfriend therapy is what you've needed all along and just didn't know it!!! Sounds like you need regular nights out!!

I'm so happy to hear of your progress....way to go. Sounds like you had the right balance of push and rest afterwards to "git 'er done!"
