Hello clifford149 I must say, that's a very cute picture of your puppy, Sky!:puppysmooze:
I caught up a little on your thread and sounds like you're doing great recovering! I don't spend a lot of time reading everyone's postings, so I'm glad to know you're doing well. I'll be 6 weeks out tomorrow, and hanging in. Seems like I pushed myself too much weeks 4 and 5 and have been experiencing more soreness and pain since. I can't seem to find a balance between laying around and being bored, and being up, but not doing too much! I think I need to really rest for a week and see.
Good luck with your OS visit. I'm sure you'll get a gold star. :)

Hi @bigosh...6 weeks well done are you beyond restrictions?.....you call it so well....doing stuff....getting bored...laying down ...doing stuff.....then doing too much....what I dislike is using one cane but my wrist hurts from arthritis:( and yes sky is pretty cute but 14 months now...take care

If your wrist is hurting, strap it for support, not too tight clifford149

The first 6 weeks can be frustrating, patience grasshopper :)

:)

Because you have had major surgery and you have a lot of other things to focus on... We love to help because we have been where you are right now :)

Hi folks, almost 5 weeks post op....cant wait to get rid of these horrible socks.. itchy dry legs driving me nuts. Still its not the worst thing going on. Still sore down the side at top of my hip (and my backside still doesnt want to be sat on for any length of time). Have spent all day wandering around the house in and out of rooms that strangely enough look the same as the last time I was in. Am getting bored and dizzy going round in circles. O well! Iv always got bedtime to look forward to having to sleep on my back every night. Its like having the same thing for dinner every night. Am sure you will all know what im talking about. Lol. X

Hi clarabo I am 4 weeks today and instead of wearing the horrid stockings I have had 30 Clexane injections instead but only 2 more to go. Hurray ! Sounds like you have a bit of cabin fever and like me you are getting bored and ready to get back to normal You only have another week to wait until many of the restrictions will be lifted When are you seeing your OS next ?

I seriously have no idea about these thread things and what to do ...... sorry for my ignorance bsrbara.

clarabo Sounds like you're doing well. I can relate to the boredom, too. Seems when I do things, I overdo and end up hurting. Otherwise, it's so boring resting. But as they say, it's a marathon, not a sprint. Patience is everything. Wish I had more of it! And sleeping on our backs is the worst, isn't it? It's hard to find a comfortable spot, no matter what. But it's not forever. I can use my sides now, and it's better, but can pinch the incisions. I have to keep changing positions, waking up alot, etc. But it won't last forever, thank goodness!

There is a way to start your own thread, but I'm not sure I remember. zauberflöte is very good with this stuff. Perhaps she'll see this and help you out. :) I think it's something at the top under hip replacement area? Or maybe new posts? IDK. Let's hope someone who does know tells you. Take care and keep up the good work at recovering.

My apologies to clifford149 for hijacking your thread... so sorry .... I didnt know how to use this properly. I still dont know if I am doing it right.

Hi...no probs.....I guess I was lucky...no stockings and no injections....just pills....:)

Clifford. Your dog is lovely. I tried to get my dog (a crafty wee bichon frise) to sit still enough for a photo instead of putting my face on profile , but I had no chance lol.

ByGosh well I may seem good at this, but your tag either got snowed under in the 53 alerts I tried to pretend were not there, or it didn't get alerted! :skep: So I'm pretty late to the party...
clarabo I find (I'm not really all that good, I just raised a computer geek, so i have to pretend....) that if you just mouse around and click on stuff, after a while you will get the lay of the land. I got lost on this place for hours a day before i got things arranged in my own head! So then I joined LOL. So you already have your own thread, to find it you would go (by any one of a number of routes,,,, holler if you need help with that) to Hip Replacement Recovery Area and scroll (and turn the page if need be) to find your thread! You did a new hip, you can certainly do this forum :)
clifford149 You know when I get bad, even horrible, dreams? Right this time of the lunar cycle-- on a waxing moon. Then there are the Full Moon dreams, which are no fun either. I'm not kidding, and I'm not being all New Age-y-- I have noticed this for decades, and my husband too! Maybe that's all it is :) And of course there's the brokenness of your sleep cycles, so you may be dreaming dreams you always do but now you're waking up straight from them and remembering just because you're dreaming at a different time than your brain is used to. My younger son was 9 yrs old before he slept through the night at all, so I made quite a study of sleep (And lack of it.....) in those years.

Thanks for the advice . My son is 11 and he could run rings around me when it comes to computers...my partner is a computer technician aswell but he just loses his patience when I dont quite get it.x
Shocking news about boston marathon bombing. Heard before I went to bed last night...poor kid lost his life....so sad....I am going to stop moaning about trivial things.

Hi @clifford Do you have a palm grip cane Mine were changed to these and it made all the difference to the soreness in my hands

All the best for a smooth recovery@clifford149.
Boy, we aussies must be woozes. The usual timeframe (at least in the Private Health system) is 3-4 days in hospital and then we are strongly encouraged to go into a specialist orthopaedic Rehab facility. Usually for up to two weeks. The total cost is generally covered by Health Insurance if you have the maximum cover. Rehab involves structured hourly sessions with a physio in a gym and hydro pool with the aim to be as mobile as possible to go home. Health cover is very expensive. We pay $280 per month.,that is family top hospital cover plusvextras like dental, physio, acupuncture etc. You can choose Dr and hospital and therefore also a date that suits. Hospital is free but my out of pocket for implant, radiology, physician etc will be around $5000.

Without Health cover the op, hospital etc are all free. medicare covers everything except rehab but no choice of Dr, date, hospital etc.
I'm interested to know how it works in the US, Canada and the UK

Hi Maeve....in the UK we have 2 systems. Public eg NHS the other private....many of the NHS surgeons also can work in the private hospitals ....the cost of one hip privately is around £10k + extras eg pt......
Of course many private patients use health insurance....I don't what the monthly costs for this are as I don't believe in private medicine but that's a separate debate....a couple of years ago the UK govt introduced choose and book...once your Gp believes you need surgery he/she is supposed to tell the patient they can choose any hospital and even surgeon led team ..... In practice most patients are not aware of this and many Gp simply refer the patient to the nearest hospital....there is a 2011 report that has researched this by the kings fund....my process was exactly this....it was only after I did my own research I got my appointment changed to a particular surgeon in an out of area hospital.....hope that gives some insight.....clifford

Hi@kim22...thanks will investigate.....interesting today my op leg is feeling really good and I sense being able to walk a short distance without a crutch....without a limp...I sense the step up exercises that I started from last wed have really helped strengthen my glutes ....while I am also quite able to do all the other standard exercises with 2 kg ankle weight....
