THR Mayhip8's recovery thread

hello to all--- @ChrissyW , @Calgal
@Mayhip8 , I have the same weather, love your description of autumn-- wish we could bottle it and sell it , that feeling of autumn, the anticipation of Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and daughter #2 birthday thrown in there for good measure ( November 26). Here in the US football season starts, ( high school, college and professional, a frenzy let me tell you) store and shops pushing the seasons and every fall pulling those bright cozy sweaters out of storage.
We have 60s -90 s degree weather here in summer so no coats needed.
You work a similar shift to my daughter, shes 7pm 7am. She just got assigned a student to orient ( shes a nurse since July 2017) and works postpartum in a hospital.
I also worked at the bedside for 40 years and now I'm beginning to realize that I feel I'm past the bedside type of nursing but not sure what to do and that's part of the funk I'm in at this time. Sooo. I think I'm just going to try and be patient, and take care of my house and be there for my mom ( 88, lives alone, 10 miles down the road from me) and help Anne with Ari when need be. But there is a hole in my life that is there because of my not working that I know you understand.
True what you said about our being a box set series and now our lives unfold!!!!
The question is what do we call our series? "As the Hip Turns" "Hips of Our Lives" .....hmmm gotta think about that one. Check you all out later, working on just using the cane today.
Love to all:dogwalk: :happydance:

It's kind of a strange but positive feeling to read and feel how we're all progressing. It's like we started to watch a box set back in spring and got to know the characters and became fond of them And want to know more , now the series is established we can see our lives unfold in a more relaxed manner and you get the feeling this is a long running show . Ands it's great because the support and friendships that exists.

This encapsulates your evolving friendship accurately. It's hard to imagine the four of you losing contact away from the forum as time marches on...

Not long for you now, @Mayhip8
Wishing you comfort as you await your date.

@Mayhip8 ive always fancied fame so us as part of an in demand box set is fab! Thinking back to our early virtual trips we were sex and the city New Yorkers so it was obvious we were made for the long haul and maybe, now @ahipgma has hip #2 done and you're nearing your 2nd surgery we can say this is series 2 most definetly. To add to @ahipgma initial ideas some ideas I shall throw in to the mix are 'keeping up with the hipsters', 'down hip abbey' or even 'the (un)real hips of bone smart' :spin::yes!:

:loveshwr:Down hip abbey :heehee: @ChrissyW
As the hip turns, Hips of our lives @ahipgma :loll:
Fab titles!! My thoughts for a title?
Titanium ?
Reach for the scars ?
Operation hipstars?
Or...The hips have it?
I see a blockbuster evolving here!!!!
Just home from a crazy shift ! I do emergency telephone triage at the moment and tonight I had a case of anaphylaxis and a separate paediatric emergency calls amongst other benign and "worried well calls' I love this aspect of my job because it's so varied and I learn a lot from primary emergency care. The shift was six hours long and sitting was manageable so I'll go back to longer hours soon.
On a different note the waiting list officer called me at 3pm and asked me to ' stand by ' for admission and surgery at 7 am on Thursday ( today) I got spooked and excited and pondered how to get prepared and cover my shifts - then within 30 mins she called me to ' stand down' !!! Oh!!! The relief yet slight disappointment ! (I had an awful night last night with hip pain and shoulder pain )
I've a busy week ahead as I'm working, helping my freind with sorting out the practicalities of legal/ practical issues in notifying different agencies after her husbands death , also it's my daughters 14 th birthday on Sat and my birthday on Sun ( I'm eternally 28) the children go back to school so I've cards cakes and presents to buy! All would have been delegated but on balance I'm glad I'm not going into theatre tomorrow - everything for a reason they say!!!
Ahipgma! One cane? 14 days post op! Kudos ! Be careful and be kind and patient! You have a workable plan if you don't return to the wards/ floor, nursing - do you have telephone triage in the states? Maybe you could write your memoirs of nursing or even we could all ' team write ' our block buster script?
There's a thought to ponder !!!
So on this note I'll chill down and rest my brain before I turn in for the night- I'll play a game or two of online scrabble to tire me out and I'll pop by tomorrow .
Have a comfortable and peaceful night all
Love and hugs
:loveshwr::loveshwr::flwrysmile:

Ladies I'm up for any blockbuster script. I wondered who would star as each of us ( though we should all have cameo roles too!). For some reason today I feel like I'm sat/ resting on a hard lump, more so than previously. Going to rest this evening and ignore it!!

Ice Ice baby @ChrissyW! Work is, well, hard work! Remember to rest up each night as the energy drain still lurks. :scary:

I've had a good week, went to my first rehab / private Pilates session and it was an eye opener. You can get the whole scoop on my thread.

Wow @Mayhip8 - what a shock about the last minute surgery it's on/it's off. What a rollercoaster! It would be great to get it over with, but you seem to be enjoying your back to work mentally and socially. Hmm. Tough dilemma! Enjoy your work time while you can. You'll be getting another long break soon enough. I'm happily retired now but must admit I was in two minds when I stopped. I knew I would miss meeting and talking to my international business people (I taught English as a foreign language to adults the past 16 years after leaving IT in the USA). But now I'm ok with my new chapter in life with shiny new hip. :egypdance:

Hoping all of you have a great weekend and @ahipgma behaves herself and doesn't land in the ODIC. :heehee:

Hello to all--
Knocked a little at the door of ODIC but never went in.
I too am getting more and more resigned to, well, resigning. Dont forget, @Calgal, that we are slightly older in our little group and it's time,at least for me. I last worked April 29th. My hub is just turning 59 this month and works in IT in the banking industry
I miss the income more than the job but we can do ok without it and will miss my colleagues....
Just less shopping but that's ok if it takes me out of the mad crazy world of acute care in the US. Stressful!
@Mayhip8 I am on the edge of my seat thinking you're going to be snatched off to surgery who knows when. Pompoms at the ready! The support of our community meant the world to me especially in the last 2 weeks.
I do various volunteer things at my church that I will be glad to get back to and between my mom and Ari have plenty to do in my family. Retirement looking sweet!:happydance:

@Calgal TEFL has always sounded exciting as I'm a massive language fan as languages were my original career path but things changed at 18 for various reasons. I wish everyone would get excited about learning languages.
@Mayhip8 ill be worrying if you go missing that you've been whisked away like @ahipgma said so she is so right, we'd better get practicing they cheer and Pom Pom shaking ready for your encore! @ahipgma your volunteering at church reminded me of when I was a teenager and used to volunteer to clean the church brasses on a Saturday morning. If I ever smell brasso (do you have it in the states?) I'm taken back to my little polishing cloth, wire wool and brasso and making everything lovely and shiny. :spin:
This week has been so busy and I must say I'm definetly feeling it. Looking forward to the weekend and actually found myself (I'll make my apologies now) wondering, while driving home, how long to the next holiday. Have a pleasant evening whatever you are doing and I'll probably pop by your other threads to have a nosey.xx:thumb::happydance:

@ChrissyW yes brasso made it to the states! My mom always had an old can under the sink. The stuff lasts forever! In fact I've got a tin waiting for me right now by the front door awaiting me getting off my bottom to polish the letter slot! :heehee:

Brasso! I remember it well! @ChrissyW

Well it's just a quick Pop by tonight
I've had a hectic day and my shoulder is killing me so I'm going to take a diazepam to stop the spasm.
I've not slept really well for the past week for one reason or another and I feel very tired today but had so much to do.
I got another call from the hospital This morning asking me to have my operation tomorrow however I declined because last night I've arranged a weekend of celebrations and invited people over.( Id planned not to do anything this year as I would've been recovering if things have gone to plan) however - they haven't so I'm bending with the changes.
We have three birthdays and wedding anniversary to celebrate!
I did tell the admissions officer that I would be free from Monday onwards:old:

I'll catch up more tomorrow
For now sweet dreams ladies and I'm up for a virtual adventure! What shall we do ? :loveshwr::flwrysmile:

Have fun this weekend @Mayhip8
It sounds like you may be partied out by the end of the weekend.

Only two weeks to go unless you get another call like yesterday.
Try a heating pad in these last days if you haven't already. It doesn't take away the pain but I found it to be mildly comforting in the few weeks leading up to surgery.
You're almost there...

OMG! God bless you for your calm. The set date gave me something to hang my
hat on, I would have been pretty wiggy if they'd kept trying to change it on me. Dont blame you though for having a lovely celebratory weekend before all gets started. We could go to LA or Hollywood since we are stars of our own series.....
A resort or cruise would be nice too.
Nighty night, hope the diazepam is relaxxxingggg.....:sleeep:

Hello everybody:flwrysmile:

I had an okay nights rest but feel hung over from meds this morning.

It's a double edged sword really isn't it ?
That fine balance between comfort and cognition
Luckily I only have relaxed things to do today I don't really need my brain.

I'm cooking a huge Bolognese in the slow cooker for tomorrow s celebrations ( almost as fabulous as my world famous very best lasagna!!) . I will add pasta to it When it cools down so when I get in from work tomorrow evening I will bung it in the oven and have a pasta bake for the hot food and I've chopped and prepared salads meats cheese and dips for cold buffet .
Many years of catering for parties and Christmas I think I've got this down to a fine T.
We will move furniture and prepare the room tomorrow and then I'll be off to work till 6pm
It will all come together in the end!
We have a great house for parties and ive I had many over the years, I totally enjoy the prep, the party ,
And my husband totally enjoys tidying up the next day :loll::heehee::rotfl:
@ChrissyW I hope your first week of term went well and that you can find some relaxing and fun things to do this weekend
@Calgal thanks for your good wishes I'm going to pop over to your thread to read about your Pilates in a bit
@Layla thank you for the suggestion I'll give that a try tonight. I hope you have a good weekend.
@ahipgma Keep up the good work lovely:old: you're doing so fab:dancy: each day is a new milestone isn't it?
You are my reassurance and inspiration for hip no 2 ( no pressure then!)
So ladies ...... How about Hollywood next weekend? I hear we've been nominated ! What shall we wear on the red carpet ?!!!! Where should we eat? Who shall we hook up with?....
:flwrysmile::loveshwr::roseshwr::loveshwr::flwrysmile:

Good afternoon dear friends
@Mayhip8 I am balancing between comfort and cognition too as I thought I would really dodge pain today and take 1/2 of a 5mg oxy this am and I'm kind of lying here dazed on the couch, when I should really get up now that the oxy worked on the pain.....my hubs mom taught him her bolognese and it is our standard, always some in the freezer for a quick, delicious meal. Mmmmm smells so good when it cooks. Yesterday was really ODIC ish because I went to the OS, had my family over for dinner and overnight as we live closer to the airport than they do,
Older daughter is joining a friend to run a half marathon in Minnesota, younger daughter came along to hold on to Ari while her mom runs. A sisters weekend.
Cooked a big meal, rice ,veggie ,fish, and homemade cake for dessert yesterday.
Hard on the hip but well worth it, like you, I love to cook and entertain.
So, the OS. Got my dressing off ( rubbery Aquacel that you can shower with) and steristrips on for a few days. They are pleased with my progress and the look of my incision ( mini posterior like last time)
I was glued in layers so no staples or sutures. They asked about pain control and I said I was ok. Next appointment in 4 weeks. Will get an x ray then. Allowed to drive, long as I am judicious with the narcs and can use the cane with confidence.
I am glad you are inspired for your next go round but the first 2 weeks are a bear,no getting around it -- glad its behind me but!!! Having one leg already done with a new surgery is BETTER than having only 1 hip done with a bad one still hanging around.
The hip I got in May is stable and while not totally pain free is worlds better than the arthritis we all endured!
So yes Hollywood! I have to fly to the other side of the country and you all must come across the pond. How about it @ChrissyW and @Calgal ? A trip before Mayhip gets her second shiny hip?

Well since I'm an LA baby, I'll have to tag along and keep you all out of trouble! Hollywood was my go to destination on dates when I was growing up in the suburbs. First step is a fake tan and tooth whitening! :rofsign:

Well.......... Work finished 18.00
Showered changed cooked and catered .....
Head hit pillow 05.45.......
Can't believe I pulled another all nighter!!!:rotfl::heehee::loll:
Oh I hurt today !
But We sang
We danced
We drank
We ate
We chatted
We sang some more ....
My incorrigible sisters ( and incorrigible me )
It was my youngest daughters birthday yesterday 14!!!!!
I'm twice her age today ( 28) still!!
Birthday in bed so far :rofsign::loll:

What a fantastic wonderful life :loveshwr::roseshwr::dancy::spin::egypdance::flwrysmile:

Happy, happy birthday @Mayhip8 !
You are a year younger than my daughter then, and it's kind of you to befriend an older lady like me!!
May your coming year be filled with joy and blessings and an effortless addition of a shiny second hip-- the gift that will keep on giving! Woohoo. Party hearty and a huge birthday hug :friends:across the pond.
