I understand that you are frustrated, but I can't figure out what exactly is frustrating you....what it is that you don't understand. Sorry, Rich, for being so dense.

Is it that you are worried that you may accidentally do something to hurt your new hip?

That is precisely what im worried about, i dont want to have gone through all the pain and hard work i have done to turn around and do something stupid without thinking by not paying attention to have done damage to my hip, so yes thats what im frustrated about thats what frustrates me...!!!

Ahhhhhh......then you're worrying about the "what if's"......no, no, noooo! Don't do that! You are doing fine. All you need to do is pay attention to your body. If you over do things (like you did those first few days), you'll be tired and/or hurt. That's your body telling you to slow it down a bit temporarily. If you make a movement and it becomes uncomfortable, stop doing it temporarily and try it again later.

Your body will tell you exactly what your limits are if you stay tuned in to your feelings. You're good at that. You'll be fine.

Your new joint is strong. You have already made it this far with no problems. Your surgeon is pleased with your progress and blessed you to go home and do more of the same. So....stop worrying!!! There are no "gotchas" waiting out there in the dark.:th_heehee: HONEST!!

That is exactly what i've been doing right from the start, plus i do believe tere are no GOTCHAS out there waiting for me , you always know how to put things in perspective Jamie, thank you so much, i ate i worry aboyt so much ive done it all my life that way it prepares me for a let down and it doesnt hurt so much, hope that helps...!!!

Rich....I mean this with all my heart. This is not a time for worry. It's a time to rejoice for all the things you can already do that you couldn't do a month ago. It's a time to enjoy your life, your family, each day. It's a time to be thankful that you live in a time where surgery like this can give you your life back. It's a time to wake up smiling every day because YOU have a shiny new hip that you deserve. I hope you can stay focused on the positive things in your life....they are many and they are wonderful.

Dont ge me wrong im a grateful guy having had this amazing surgery afterall i would not ha had it if i didnt lose the weight i have alot going for me,and sometimes i lose sight of that i lose sight of how good it really is and i need to be reminded at times and you have reminded me of whats important about this surgery and it giving me my life back.I certainly dont mean to be critical , although i can be without even being aware of it, but with help i will get better at it slowly but surely.

Yes, I believe you will, Rich! Just think....you're almost THREE WEEKS out now.

Time flies when you're having fun , i was thinking about it tiday when i was waiting to be seen by myh surgeon and my wife even commented on how time just goes by and you're not even aware of it, hopefully sooner then later i'll be able to sleep on my side i am going crazy sleeping on my back it stinks.

Great news from the OS! Sounds like things are going right along!

I completely agree with listening to your body. If you are doing something and your new HIP isnt ready it will let YOU know right from the start. I had the 90 degree restrictions and cant say I didnt do something at some point in the early days to go a little over them and I knew it because my new hip told me "dont push it lady, thats enough for me!"

Haldox im not suee if you're talking to me or not but i make it a point to listen to my body especially my hip everyday because i know if i dont i'll pay the ultimate price and thats the last thing i want to do is hurtmy hip in a way i may end up having another surgery to fix the damage that i would hate...talk about hatingblife in a big way.

No, i think i'm going to wait until i am a little bit more healed, i'm going to stick to the sponge baths, i,m a little to apprehensive right now, my tub is really high and gtting my leg up and over the side is diicult i dont want to rn the risk of dislocating myhip, thats what i've decided until such time im comfortable and a little more healed, how re you doing these days..??

I'm lucky to have a shower stall with only a 6 inch high edge to step over. It would be a lot more difficult if I had to step into a tub. If I didn't have the shower stall, I probably would have tried to find a second hand shower chair for the tub.

Well, I'm one day behind you and I'm doing pretty well. Still using a walker, not ready for a cane yet. But I've been able to cut down on the pain meds as of yesterday.

Of course, I get frustrated and depressed, etc. But its just over two weeks and there is some improvement every day. This isn't the easiest thing to go through, but it will be worth it to be able to do the things I want to without that constant old pain.

Take it easy,
Sally

Rich, the dislocation thing is a risk not an inevitability. Did you read this and look at the chart? This 90 degree rule and risk of dislocation Dislocations are actually quite rare as well.

Let me tell you about my sister who had her hip done a year or so back. I went and looked after her and when she got home, taught her how to get into and out of the bath for a shower, how to get into and out of bed and a dozen other things. She was getting impatient and wanted to be done with the restrictions. At 6 weeks she went for her follow up appointment and saw the surgeon who was very pleased with her progress. So she asked him if she could come off the restrictions. He slowly turned and looked at her with this look, like :skeptical: and said "Did I tell you to do the restrictions?" Only then did she realise that he hadn't! He doesn't believe in them and you know what? He has an almost non-existent incidence of dislocations!

Sally i hear you, this is not easy but i am sure you can agree its well worth it, i am however using a cane i am healig pretty well but as i mentioned just not enough to shower, you will get there as far as the using the cane i moved aloved pretty good i only used the walker for about 6 days and moved onto the cane, i was a little unsure with the cane at first but the mor used it the more comfortable i became, how did your surgery go, were there any complications, mine went very smoothly , i was an emotional wreck so much so they hsd to give me a sedative " versede" X3 and it calmed me down and i dont remember anything thereafter, i wish you all the best, i can make a suggestion PT is huge it really makes a big difference with your recovery i know its really helpedme out ...keep in touch Sally.

Jo i get all jammed up and think i will dislocate my hip im built that way to worry about things im getting better as time goes by , i know when to not push it i have done this and right away my hip lets me know to not push to hard because you'll regret it i cant imagine what i'd do if it did life would really stink...i take what you say to heart because you've been in the buisness for years, thank you so much for being you Jo.

Yes Rich I was posting to you about listening to the hip and I meant that everything will be ok.-Not to worry so much because your hip will let you know if your going to far for it, waaay before it will just come unhinged.:wink1:

Have you tried to stand sideways to your tub with THR leg next to edge, bend knee behind you, lift THR leg over edge, put in tub and then follow through with your good leg.? While holding onto something of course.

Rich, we all worry about hurting our new hips, for example dislocation but it is a matter of being careful in the early weeks...

You are not alone in your fears, we all think about it for ourselves..

Overall i'm doing pretty good taking care o my new hip,i'm staying on top of the hip precautions and very vigilant with my PT because i know otherwise my recover will suffer BIG TIME , thats the last thing i want, all that work for nothing, no thanks, thank you Sandy, you're a good kid.

Well, just a minute there, Rich. Your hip is going to hurt when you use it because it's been operated upon. You have got to test it a bit here and there. Not every pain you get is a warning that you are about to dislocate, quite the opposite. I'd say if it became excruciating pain then you should back off.
