Navy Boy, You are doing great, so please don't get into the what if. They will ruin your day and miss the moments of the recover you are doing so well in. I want to share something, I had a hip done on Sept 13 and on Jan 1st, I fell, I was so scared that the hip had gotten hurt. Well it didn't. Its lots stronger than you think. Remember when the hip starts hurting stop whatever you are doing and everything will be ok. I found that everytime I got in the what if. I would take a deep breath and say, For right now everything is ok. All is well. Take care and have a good whats left of the weekend. :doggieshmooze:Tashia:friends:

Perhaps i am going overboard when it comes to the care of my new hip, i just dont want to hurt or dislocate it, i tend to overkill with alot of things it keeps me on alert, today i was able to take my first shower in over two weeks and getting in and over the side of the tub was'nt so bad afterall there was no fear because i didnt put alot of fear into it i just did it, and it paid off, i felt like a million bucks having taken that shower, now if i could just put that kind of effort into believing i won't dislocate when im doing something as simple as bending over because no one said i cant bend over i just need to be sensible about it.Thank you so much Tashia for your kind words and input, i appreciate it.

Tashia, what a lovely post for Rich. - you are my friend, but you already know that don't you :) xxxx

Rich

What precautions did your OS give you?

All sounds good and normal, so why are you concerned about bending over if you are ensuring you don't go past the 90 degree rule?

Maybe I am not sure what you mean by bending over, what are you doing?

Sounds like a good plan Rich :)

I tell that to myself all the time with my Chronic Kidney Disease.. it is what it is :)

Re: bending over. If you drop something on the floor and bend over to get it, you will be breaking the 90 degree rule. What you can do is extend the operated leg behind you when you bend. I believe its called a golfer's bend.

YoooHooo Rich,

I'm sure that shower was fabulous! You are doing really well, congratulations.

The fear part of popping the hip stays around for quite a few weeks. Vaguely I think my confidence really kicked in around the 2 month mark. Don't panic I was walking, driving well at 5-6 weeks, but the fear was always in the back of my mind, thinking back it wasnt the fear of popping the hip out, my biggest fear was falling over and "breaking" now I feel very confident knowing if I fell it would be no different with or without my new hip. I dont want to try it, but if I did take a fall I feel ok about it, unlike those earlier days!

Have a good week!

xxooxx

Hey Rich, I have been away from the forum for a few days. Just catching up with your thread. You are doing great!

Golfers reach is great. Just be sure and hold on to something firm while you are doing it at first. You need to build up strength and balance before you can do it "hands free".

Im very careful whn i need to bend over i do in fact use the golfers rule it workd very well for me, i m very aware of not breaking thr 90 degree rule i refuse to not pay attention and pay the price, this i ont let happen, plus i have great people on here who continue to remind me of being aware of my surroundings and for that im grateful.

Hi Jaycey how are things going, i wanted to let you know i was able to shower the last few days , i was a little apprehensive at first because i was afraid i would either break the 90 degree rule or worse dislocate my hip and that would put me in a world pain and hate, but it wa so much easier then i thought it would be i simply just paid attention to what my body was telling me and went with it and i was fine, i need to seriously give myself more credit then i do because i doubt myself more often then not and more often then not im almost always successful.

I know my doubts stem from my childhood but the more i walk through my fear by just doing it the more successful i'll become and honestly with having had this surgery i have learned alot about my body in lot of ways because all it really comes down to is paying attention to what your body is telling you and you will be just fine and i truly believe that, thank you so much Bone Smart you're truly a god send.

Great milestone that first shower! It's very natural to worry about your new hip. In the back of your mind you remember all that pain you were in and the stress of getting to the op. It's all done now and that new hip will take you through years and years of activity.

You are doing the right thing - listen to your body. It will guide you through this recovery. I found the restrictions were a natural limit. Slowly you will get more flexiblity in that new hip.

You are doing great Rich!

At first when i got my bad leg over i panicked because i didnt think i'd be able to get out, there i was straddling the tub thinking i had no way out, now i'm an old pro.

I'm pretty impressed with my progress because honestly like i mentioned i dont give myself enough credit and almost always i end up surprising myself, none of the work or obstacles i will face are not so bad i only create them to be by complicating them.
