I am so sore but grateful I had the surgery

Yup - it's all about getting confidence in what you can do. Baby steps at first. Walk before you can run and all that!

Its so amazing how fast i have healed both mentally and physically because i remember i could barely get around on my walker now im pretty much walking around on a cane like its a part of me.

Mentally they say its all mind over matter, if you don't, it don't matter and i believe that because that can be a huge roadblock in our success to recover from this major surgery.

My poor wife is frustrated with my situation and feels powerless and i cant blame her at all, she was complaining about how im always laying around in my recliner sleeping and i told her thats th best i can do right now for the healing process and although i can see her point i cant help it because in order for me to heal i need to do whats right, and if thats sleeping and relaxing so be it.

I feel bad for her because i know its been difficult for her having to wait on me hand and foot and its getting a little easier now that im getting better day by day, she's been amazing and i'm so grateful to her, my wife is the kind of lady who is a go getter she is constantly on the go all the time and watching her in action im amazed with her, and i too feel bad because she takes on so much that she burns herself out and im just an added burden to her load, anyway soon it will be over i just dont know when.

Rich it's only a very short period of time. This time spent in the right way means you and your wife enjoy a whole lifetime of pain free living. I am sure your wife wouldn't want it any other way.

For now you are doing all the right things. And as you are seeing - each day brings more and more activity.

Hope things are going okay today, Rich. Your wife will understand....just as you understand her frustration when it comes. You both are itching for things to get back to normal....and they will. Patience...patience!

I'm not so sure what normal is but i do however know what it means for things going back to the same ole same ole, soon enough thats for sure life is good and no one can take that away from us anymore god willing time will tell and things will be ok again, god willing because im blessed i truly am...thank you yet again for your kind words Jamie.

sorry about your marital struggles Rich - I think they happen to us all - or they did to me anyway...it takes a lot of time and resting and that is what you must do for yourself - but I know you know all this already...the end is closer than it was 3 weeks ago - have faith that as each day passes you are further along and tho you do have weeks to go you have already made it weeks before your surgery and some weeks after too - take care and God Bless.
xoxo,
Linda.

A milestone yet again

I'm blown away, i was able to walk ( without any assistance at all,no cane or walker ) from my bedroom to my kitchen which area at opposite ends of my house and considering i just had my hip removed on the 10th of April i think thats pretty siginificant :yes 4:if you take into consideration that just 10 days ago i started using the cane i know i'll probably be told to not over do it , but i think my recovery is critical to share with others,i know everyones recovery is so very different, but i'm pretty excited with my progess thus far, i believe that by me sharing about my recovery and the amazing strides im making it could very well encourage someone else to strive to push themselves to accomplish one simple goal , thats good enough everyone needs support during their process , finally i also took a walk down the street today from one end to the other and it was very rejuvinating, and it was with NO PAIN OR DISCOMFORT WHATSOEVER...it's just so amazing to how fast the body recovers as long as you take care of it and get the proper rest...:yahoo:

Re: A milestone yet again

Good for you Navy boy :) - well done :) xx, sunshine :)

Re: A milestone yet again

I am pretty surprised yet not all that much because when you put in the work it pays off ,i have ( still) no pain at all i have discomfort,i have what they call reffered pain( coming from somewhere else) i notice if i sit to long in place that when i get up i'm really stiff, nothing i can,t deal with otherwise life is good, actually life is fabulous, because i can do one of two things , be negative and think of like oh poor rich that baby look at him the world picking on him OR i can think of it this way i am progressing rapidally in my recovery because im doing the PT, im taking my walks as much as possible and you know life is good it could be much worse.

Re: A milestone yet again

Wow Rich - great progress! Keep up the good work!

Re: A milestone yet again

Isn't it great when you can do something new! Only another hippie would understand the significance of what you're talking about :-)

Congratulations!

Dorothy

Re: A milestone yet again

I just discovered something very daring and thought i would try it, i put my cane down and walked across my living room without a problem, so i got even more daring and walked the length of my house and no problem yet again, so i thought i would go the distance and take a walk, i walked with my cane half the length of my street and the remainder without the cane and i had no problems at all...somethings telling me that im due to come off using the cane real soon....granted if im out with my wife somewhere ill use it otherwise im due sooner then later.

Rich that is such good news! I am really really pleased for you.

Don't fret too much about PT, honestly. People think I'm being a bit too lax about it but truly, hips mostly take care of themselves as long as you walk a bit every day, and walk a bit extra each day. That and some basic muscle strengthening exercises like straight leg raises and using an exercise cycle (if you have one) are really all you need.

Well done you!

You merged my threads, thats fine did they violate the rules in an innocent way,oh well another innocent mistake, us yankees ya cant take us anywhere and you have to repeat yourslf to us constantly....lol
