Over the weekend i went to an amusement park with my family, i was wearing flip flops, anyway i did ALOT OF WALKING howevr i was told by my surgeon when i had my 60 day follow up post op to "go back to living my life you have no more restrictions" well let me just say i spent about 4 or 5 hours at the amusement park and by the 2nd hour i was starting to really feel it in my hip , it escalated by the 3rd hour and i was miserable :tantrum: i chalked it up as my footwear could have been better , i paid the price the rest of the day as it was throbbing and going down my right leg and into my knee, this went on for the remainder of the night, i took some aleve as it only took the edge off it was bearable, finally will i always go through this , am i still " early in recovery" or was it indeed my footwear, it just didnt dawn on me to wear something with support, it was in the high 90's that day and as i think about it now sneakers were not an option, i'm fine now and comepletely back to normal but it will always be in the back of my head, should i have brought my cane with me and wore better footwear, live and learn of course..

Navyvet, you won't be paying for this forever. So you learned a valuable lesson. You probably do need better footwear...certainly in the short-run, and maybe the long-run too. And being on your feet for five hours is a huge amount when you are just 3 months out. Your surgeon should have told you that you will be healing for a good year and more. That doesn't mean don't return to normal life...it just means to take precautions....make sure you have plenty of opportunities to sit and rest a bit when you're out and about, and yes....take your cane just in case.

Really, your recovery is great. Your body will always let you know when you've pushed it too far, and when you do, you just back off for a few days and regain your equilibrium.

Flip-flops have a bad reputation even for the healthiest of people. Besides no support your foot slides around in them and that can't be good for a recovering hip. I know what you mean, though. I sometimes onset when we can we are completely healed...I think I've read it may be as long as one year. I'm glad you are doing better!

I merged your threads for you. These folks are right. It's not that you are really "early" in recovery....just that it does really take a year or more before you are fully strengthened. Flip flops are never a good idea for that length of time unless they are the specially designed orthopedic ones that have full foot support. Those are exxpensive, but they do work if you MUST have flup flops. Otherwise, I'd say stick with tennis or running shoes. You'll have a lot fewer problems.

For now, you must go back to the old program for a while....ice, elevate, rest, pain medication (can be over-the-counter or prescription) on a schedule. You'll be better again soon.
