Hip Arthroscopy Hip Arthroscopy ups and downs

You got that right, chop down a tree and stop up a spillway in less than an hour.

There is talk of reintroducing them in the UK. It’s a bit of a contentious issue.

I think they are amazing animals...in the right place. They can obviously be very destructive on not only trees but they can dam up free flowing waterways or - burrow through a pond bank and drain a pond. More often, they stop things up.
I think they are cool, brother-in-law does not!!
He actually took that picture...good thing they are mostly nocturnal and avoid people. You are right, those teeth would skip your hand off.

Hi my purple friend. Been thinking how you are faring.
I remember when I decided I HAD to make the leap for BTHR.
Thanksgiving here in the US...so trying to count my blessings. Remember how hard to relent and give up body parts to modern technology.
I worry for you. I want so badly for this to be what makes your life whole.
Leave you with my one thought I printed to remind me.

Thanks @Mojo333, that’s a good thought.

I usually do things the hard way. Just like my favourite Chet Baker tune:

Do it the hard way and it's easy sailing
Do it the hard way and it's hard to loose
Only the soft way has a chance of failing
You have to choose

We’ll get there eventually. Once these things are in motion there is no saying you want to get off, and I still have a hip replacement to look forward to at some point. I’m counting my arthroscopy as a dry run for that :flabber:

Have a good Thanksgiving.

Hope you are doing well today @Alfie888 .
Do you have a recheck with your OS in the near future?
How do you think you are doing?
I have a few zillion things in my plate this week...bored as I was, kind of wish I was back in early recovery days...icing in recliner and catching up on rest.
Today will be a Good Day...(trying to convince myself):eyebrows:

Hi @Mojo333 Things have been really hectic over the past few weeks so not really been on the forum, just Popped in for a quick look every now and then. I’m busy at work and full of cold at the moment, coughing and feeling tired. The hip is just plodding on. The recovery just seems to be so slow that I don’t notice any improvement on a day to day basis. That said, I am walking further now and the pain has eased a little, but it does remind me if I over do things.

I have an appointment with the physio next week. I haven’t seen him for 4 weeks now due to any intervention causing me pain. I don’t see the OS for another 2 months. To be honest my physio gives me more info and insight that the OS, but it’s the OS that makes the decisions at the end of the day.

I went fishing for a few hours last weekend. I didn’t catch anything, which is becoming a habit, but did have a visitor. It's a privilege to see an otter in the UK, even if they are the kiss of death when fishing.

How are things with you? I know what you mean about being busy, I too could do with 6 weeks in bed.

Nice picture! What a great thing to see, even if they do chase away the fish!

@MammaT, I don’t mind not catching anything if I’m making new friends. He was very nosey and came within about 6 feet of where I was sat.

Wow - not exactly the visitor you need if you are fishing. But great that you got close. Hang in there @Alfie888 ! Sorry this is such a long journey for you.

@Jaycey, I’ll get there eventually. My goal for the next month is to be able to go to bed without having to take pain relief. Which I’m definitely going to be doing tonight after clearing leaves off the garden today. I love autumn, but just wish the leaves would stay on the trees ;-)

Oh my stars...love the otter. I love seeing things like that while outside.
I hope you are doing well Alfie. I don't like winter, well i like it for a week.
I think my legs might've turned into weather indicators...seems like they don't appreciate cool and damp.
Hang in there...:console2:

Hey Alfie. Thanks for being a support for others.
Do you ever wonder if the arthroscopic procedure was what was needed for your hip problem?
I just hear you discouraged and wonder if you are following up.
Do you feel any improvement?
Just like to see you getting better.
One thing I will say about my replacements, radical as it seemed to me...my hip pain was GONE.
Was the surgery done to repair tears, get rid of spurs, or what?
I just worry for you.

Hi @Mojo333. There was quite a lot of damage in my hip when the surgeon got in there. None of it showed up on the scans. Torn labrum/cartilage and bone spur, plus arthritis to add to the mix.

I went to physio this week and he thinks that I should be doing much better by now. His thoughts are that it hasn't worked as I'm in more pain than before the op. Bearing in mind that I had the operation because of back/groin pain and not pain in my hip. I'm going back to see him in a month then the surgeon a week later. I have scheduled an appointment with my GP next week to get his take on things and hopefully gain some info on my options.

I never went into this thinking that it would be a miracle cure, and it was only postponing the inevitable hip replacement, but it is disheartening to think I may have at least another 6 months of pain before another op will be considered. On top of that my other hip is causing me some discomfort on a daily basis now.

Anyways, I'm trying to stay positive. I'm back at work and sleeping ok most nights. There isn't much I can do about it at the moment. I'll get there in the end, even if it is the long way round.

Hate to say it...but I swear if it showed had OA in both hips, I'd get rid of them.
Maybe shouldn't be so enthusiastic as it is a serious consideration, but considering I suffered for over 3 years ....suffered! And this surgery has me in wonderful shape in less than 7 months...
I don't think it has helped you either.
Just feel bad for you.
Really, bionic hips aren't so bad. Can't even feel them. My quads still get sore, but really that's all just post op healing still.
Please pursue whatever you need to get your life back

To be honest I’m almost looking forward to the option of getting a new hip now. I feel like I’ve gone backwards. There are so many things I was doing this time last year (even if it did cause me pain) that are impossible at the moment.

I seem to really be feeling the cold this year since the op. It’s strange as it’s never really bothered me before, I would have the window open, even in winter. I’m finding myself turning the heating up which is very out of character. Has anyone else experienced this?

I do feel the cold more this year, now that you mention it.
But maybe it's because we are moving a little slower and less.
Do some upper body moving around. Don't want your top to suffer with your bottom. Get some hand weights, get your blood moving.

Hey @Alfie. Glad you popped in to check on me.
Does your work involve alot of walking ?
Or alot of sitting?
Don't know which is worse really with bad hips.
Guessing it's at least it's somewhat of a distraction?
We are crazy busy with donations this time of year and university student volunteers are already on holiday break so it will be busy busy for me this week.
Will try not to fall down and go boom anymore. Already said several times in this forum, but reminds me after instances like these...my mother always said she was glad she didn't name me Grace.
