Hip Arthroscopy Hip Arthroscopy ups and downs

@Mojo333 I had a bad nights sleep again last night and in pain again today. I'm seeing the physio tomorrow so I'll get him to check me over. It's so hard not to over do it when you are feeling ok.

Still in pain today! I had my appointment at the physio yesterday and he told me to take it easy for a few days till things settle down. I'm out of pain meds now and paracetamol and ibuprofen aren't really having any effect, so it's off to the doc's later to see if he can subscribe something a little stronger.

I'm finding it really hard to stay positive this week

Sounds like you need to slow down - including stopping any exercise, ice and elevate and see if this pain resolves. Trying to push through the pain results in what you are seeing - chronic issues.

I understand how hard it is NOT to do. But honestly, it is a roundabout journey.
I feel good today, will walk alot more, stop at end of day...uh-oh...too much. Few days I would be so ON...then, just had to stop and say, well need a few days of little to nothing.
It's when we stop, and try to sleep when all seems magnified.
So sorry it is continuing to cause you discomfort. Try your best to give your body a break...2 months after major surgery is definitely early on.
As Jaycey says, don't want to develop chronic problems.
Some can't be helped when we are back to work but we went through too much to fix this problem to sabatoge it now.
Hope today is a good day

Hi @Jaycey, I haven't been doing any exercises as such. Just normal activity, well as normal as it gets at the moment and few stretches which do help a little. I am sitting and doing a little work at home for a few hours. I might try working from my laptop from a more laid out position. I work for myself as a graphic designer and I'm not to busy at the moment which is good.

@Mojo333 thanks for your words. I think the reason I'm feeling down is I was doing so well and I seem to be back at square one.

Hi @Alfie888
Sometimes someone says it so well there's nothing to add or build on.
What @Mojo333 posted above was a great reminder and message of support.
I'm sending my best wishes for a good day. Wishing you well managed pain, peaceful contentment
and restful relaxation. To brighter days ahead.....

Thanks @Layla. I saw my GP this afternoon and he has sorted me out with some more pain meds, which is a relief. He also echoed you and @Mojo333's sentiments about taking it easy. I think it frustrates him that the surgeons give such unrealistic recovery times as he then has to deal with patients who think they should be healed and back to normal, when in reality they are way off.

I can't tell you how often we see this here on the forum. Surgeons set totally unrealistic expectations and patients get so frustrated when they can meet these silly targets. It takes time to heal from major surgery. Unfortunately the surgeon doesn't see you through that whole process.

I am glad you have a supportive GP. Hope things ease quickly for you.

Try not to get discouraged...I'm glad you are rethinking the process. I am now feeling closer to normal, but my surgery was MAY 1.
You will get there...I'm rooting for you.

I forgot you said they videoed your surgery. Don't know about keeping a copy although I did have my tonsils in a jar of formaldehyde in my sock drawer from age 13 until fifteen when my mom threw them out.
The doc said they were the biggest ones he ever took out. They looked like peach seeds. I showed them to all my friends...don't know why:eeeuw:

That sounds lovely :heehee: I'm sure at 13 it would have been great to have your tonsils in a jar. If I'd had mine in a jar I'd have been showing them off too.

They were wonderfully horrid. Maybe that's why I showed them off...during for effect!
Hope you were able to get some rest last night.
I have super busy day ahead. Kind-of miss those slow recovery days now:mcoffee:

I slept very well last night. I started taking 200mg magnesium supplement with my evening meal and sleep came pretty easily. It might just be placebo or the fact that I haven’t slept very well for a while and was exhausted. I’ve read some very positive things about magnesium recently though.

@Alfie888 How have things been going for you?
Glad you are able to sleep some. I'm pretty sure I didn't get a full nights rest for 3 months after my surgery. Some due to lack of finding comfortable position and some I think just because my sleep cycles had been so messed up for so long. Hope your weekend has been pleasant and you are practicing patience.:ok:

@Mojo333 I'm doing ok at the moment, things are getting better slowly, I think. I haven't posted in a week or so, which is probably a good thing as I haven't had to much to moan about :heehee:

I had my physio session today. The therapist I've had since the op was only a temp and has now left, so I'm with a different fella now. It turn out he's an expert with hip scopes which is reassuring. He thinks I'm doing well for 9 weeks out.

I've been going into work for the last couple of weeks. Only doing a day on day off at the moment, but it gets me out the house which was starting to drive me up the wall. I still have pain but it's more on and off now depending on who active I've been and sleeping is much easier now. I still have a little pain in the other hip which is a little worrying, we'll see how it goes.

How did your fishing trip go? I hope you caught me a big one!

Actually, the catching fish part was kind of a bust...ran into a few schools of bait-stealing yellowtails, but the sun and the water was therapeutic. I was worn out as there is also the post fishing cleanup...my stamina is still not up to par.
You are only at a little over two months so try to be patient.
Won't be long before you will be getting back in the water.
Don't sell that kayak...I believe!

Hey @Alfie888 . How are things with you? Seen you spreading some advice and comfort which I find not only helps many on this forum, but gets us out of our own heads (and hips) for a bit.
I've had some SI pain as of late...which is discouraging but think I may have been doing some things to trigger that. Lots of loading and unloading at Food Bank that I manage and even at 6 months out, some of that twisting motion that I do through the day could be the culprit. Hope it's temporary. Going to OS November 7. Hoping all is still well with me.
Hoping all is still well with you.
Recovery is a long road...still feel blessed.

I’m at the 10 week mark tomorrow. Just when I thought things were starting to get better it’s all starting to go down hill again. My good hip has gradually got more painful over the last week, to the point of it being more painful and sore than my operated hip. I’ve also been waking up in the early hours again with terrible back ache/cramps, to the point of not being able to get out of bed for 5 mins due to the pain. I’m not sure what is causing the pain in my other hip. Maybe only being able to sleep on my left hand side isn’t helping, putting pressure on it. I really hope this isn’t the start of problems with this hip as I don’t think I can cope with the thought of another op at the moment, especially as I don’t know for sure if the arthroscopy has worked yet.

On top of that I received a letter from the hospital saying that my 6 week check up has been put back again till December. This had already been put back 4 weeks, which now makes it 15 weeks post op. I am going to have to give them a call tomorrow to see what is going on. Have any of the U.K. members experienced this? Surely a 6 week check up is there for a reason.

After managing to stay pretty positive so far but I can start to feel myself slipping. I’ve been feeling down and a little tearful at times over the last week. Slow progress I can handle, I wasn’t expecting a quick fix, but at the moment I feel like I’m going backwards and in a worse place than before the op.

Anyway, tomorrow is the start of another week, who knows what it might bring.

Hi @Mojo333, Only just spotted your post. I must have been typing when you posted. It sounds like you have overdone it a little. It’s good that you are mobile enough to be able to unloading all that food. I’m sure you’ll be ok, you know the protocol by now.

You are right about helping other people on here. It is scary and uncharted waters for most of us. And any encouragement can be uplifting.

Oh no Alfie. Yep we crossed posts.
That's not good, and since you ARE experiencing problems, I would certainly do all I could do to INSIST on a recheck. That's too long and chronic issues are developing so you merit one in my opinion.
So sorry you are not getting any relief.
I want very badly for you to get back to life with no hip pain.
