Hip Arthroscopy Hip Arthroscopy ups and downs

Ok, Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it.

I'm seeing the surgeon tomorrow. I'll let you know how I get on.

@Alfie888 oh how awful and nasty-feeling, to get broken into. I hope the vulnerable feeling doesn't stick around long. And sorry you were unavoidably on your feet for so long-- I hope you can let your mates do the work and you get some ice on. I wore ice for at least two weeks with both hips! Pretty much 24/7-- the gel packs would melt soon enough to simply keep it cool, not frozen solid. It is such a great natural pain reliever.

I am with you on the efficacy of ibuprofen-- I've used it on and off ever since it came out as a prescription in, I don't know, the early 80's? It's an anti-inflammatory, and I guess if it works for me I must have inflammation! My OS gave me celebrex for each hip, and I couldn't wait to get off it (and the aspirin) so I could get back to ibuprofen. My current, middle-of-week-7 pain regimen is ibuprofen and tylenol. Some day I will be rid of both, I do hope!

I'm glad you can see your surgeon tomorrow-- hope you get many good answers!

My friends have been great, giving up so much time yesterday to make sure everything was secure and tidied up. My pain level today isn't good after the amount of time I had to spend on my feet yesterday, plus stress and lack of sleep don't help much.

I'm just going to spend the day in bed today, until I see the surgeon this evening.

So sorry you had such a traumatic experience so early out of major surgery. Your plan to rest today sounds great. Get that icing and elevation going as well.

So sorry you were vandalized...no shortage of idiots...
Hope you are able to rest and that the pain is due to over activity vs a complication. Glad you are checking on it today. Best wishes

So, I went to see the surgeon this evening. He seems to think the op went well and the bit of arthritis I have should not be a cause for concern. Only time will tell I suppose. I did get to see the video highlights from the op which was wierd. It did look a bit of a mess in there. I've also had my stitches out and it's my last stomach injection tonight, so starting to get to something like normal.

On a bright note, the insurance company have agreed to replace the garage door, which is one less thing to worry about.

Life's strange isn't it. I woke up this morning full of doom, gloom and pain and now I'm laid here covered in ice feeling quite relaxed and optimistic. Let's see what tomorrow brings :console2:

Your op was filmed? How interesting, lucky you, I'd like to have seen my surgery. Had asked for photos of the femur head but hospital policy didn't allow it.

Video highlights of my hip surgery???
Makes you wonder if you were a case study? :heehee:
Glad you are feeling better. Onward and upward, @Alfie888

The video was really clear, you could see exactly what was going on. He asked me if I had a memory card on me as I could have a copy if I wanted. It looks like he films all his operations.

Oh my stars...well you certainly would be confident in your abilities if you record them I would think.
That would be reassuring..

Just thought I'd check in as I haven't posted in a couple of days.

I had a pretty good day yesterday, hardly any pain which is the first time in two and a half weeks. I didn't bother to take any pain meds all day. Also started walking a little with 1 crutch, only round the house to get a feel for it. However, when I was stood up brushing my teeth before bed last night my hip made a loud popping noise which was rather disconcerting. This happened again whilst walking back to the bedroom. Afterwards my hip did feel a little uncomfortable so I iced it up and went to bed. I the middle of the night I woke up after involuntary kicking in my sleep. This was my bad leg that I had kicked with and with quite some force as my leg was over the other side of the bed. I have done this from time to time but could do without it at the moment.

Well, today I'm back to aching and a painful groin :gaah:

Has the popping thing happened to anyone else, is this some thing I should be worried about? It hasn't happened again today.

Alfie

Well, I have my first proper trip out of the house today after 19 days cooked up indoors ( apart from my trips to the docs and surgeon). We went out in the car to a country pub for something to eat. I managed half an hour in the car each way and sat for 45 mins whilst eating. Also managing to walk on one crutch now. Stopped off for 15mins on the way home to do a little shopping. So, I'm feeling a little more optimistic today, even if I am a little sore and iced up right now.

@Jaycey has insight on the popping. I believe she experienced that with both of her hip replacement. Heard other members mention but I haven't had that experience. Perhaps someone can clue you in about what that would be.
Glad you are icing and pain better.

Hi @Mojo2013
It hasn't happened again over the last few days. It may well just be things settling.
I'm a little sore today after my excursion yesterday. But worth it just for my sanity.

I haven't posted for a week, so thought I'd just have a catch up.

I'm 4 weeks post op now and off the crutches most of the time round the house. I even went to look round an exhibition yesterday. I used 1 crutch and lasted about 20mins before I had to sit down. My hip aches a bit today but I find it's my back that hurts the most if I over do it, and sleeping on my back for a month can't be helping as I wake up most mornings now with back ache. I can sleep on my side for a little while with a cushion between my legs but end up getting uncomfortable and laying on my back again.

I'm also managing to get some work done sat at my office desk at home. I've been setting an alarm for 40mins so I don't over do it. I'll go for a lay down or make a cup of tea so I'm not in the same position for to long.

It seems really easy to over do it at this stage as there can be periods during the day when there is no pain at all.

I only hurt when I stopped ...alot.
Still happens to me occasionally...
Think you're doing splendid. Good to hear all update. Take care.:thumb:

My partner commented last night that I was looking quite skinny. I'm 6'2" and usually weigh 13.7st give or take. I weighed myself and I now weigh 12.11st. That's quite a drop in 4½ weeks. I'm eating normally and would have thought not being very active I'd be putting weight on. Is this normal post op? It's a little worrying as My weight has been pretty constant for the last 20 years.

I lost weight for first month but not sure I was eating 'normally'. Maybe others have thoughts?
Are you generally feeling okay aside from the hip thing of course?

Yeh, feeling ok apart from the weight loss. It's not like I was carrying a lot of weight to begin with, so it is a little worrying.

I had to try to think to convert stones to pounds...guess that is 20 lbs you've lost? That does seem like alot if I had that right. And I know when I list 10 people were saying I looked gaunt. When do you go back to doctor? Maybe @Josephine has thoughts? See if tag brings her around. I will say I lost 20 lbs before my surgery....over the course of a year not month! I feel it really helped with my recovery as I was more sedentary before my surgery.
