Hip Arthroscopy Hip Arthroscopy ups and downs

How is hip, by the way?

It works out I've lost about 11lb.

The hip is getting better. I can walk about without crutches now, but it does ache if I over do it. My biggest problem is back ache in my lower back.

Oh. Bad conversion. I lost that...I don't know if our bodies just use up our regular nutrients for healing, but I was not overweight so my family showed concern also. Can't really say why...but I don't think it affected much. Most complain about weight gain with lack of mobility. Within few months I was up to pre surgery weight.
You could try some protein drinks...I don't care for them but I know alot of folks on this site have.

Good for hip, yeah my lower back gave me fits for quite a while. Because we have to rest and all the sitting, laying...maybe.

@Mojo333 I'll give the protein drinks a go. I've got a cupboard full that I used for mountain biking. Not that I've done that in a while.

:bicycle1:

I popped into work today just to say hello to the folks I share an office with. They commented that I was looking thin. Beer and fried breakfasts was their solution. Sounds good to me :martini:

Our bodies experienced alot of trauma so I wasn't sure if possibly weight loss even with normal nutrition could just be a by product of healing and not uncommon.
I have stayed slightly under pre-op weight but now I'm so much more active and finally getting some muscle back.
I had a check up at regular doctor one month ago where all levels were checked and it all came back better than perfect...BP, blood sugar, etc. Had to quit taking vitamin c due to D being high and it is usually in C for absorption.
I'm going with the extra energy your body needs is being used up for healing.
Any time I lose one pound, it goes out of my face first instead of my thighs where it might could use the loss. So everyone says I look thin, gaunt.
Hope you have a great weekend...at one month, you seen to be doing great.
Onward and upward.

Well, I’m 5 weeks post op today. I’m at the point where I can walk about unaided. I have been walking to the shops at the end of the street without any problems. My hip aches a little but nothing to worry about. The worst thing for me at the moment is back pain, quite severe at times and starting to get me down. This is causing me some concern as that’s what lead me down the route to surgery in the first place. I felt better the 2 or 3 weeks I was laid up. I’ve got an appointment with the physio on Wednesday so I’ll see what he thinks. He’s been pretty good since the first incident of pushing me to far. I only do what I can now.

I was suppose to see the surgeon next week but it’s been put back 4 weeks, which will make it 10 weeks post op. I’m not sure this is a good or bad thing. It might give things a little more time to settle before an evaluation.

I have had some back pain that was worse around 2-3 month mark...has gotten better as I've stretched back or to upright position. Mostly muscle stuff, gets better, sometimes can bother me but my body was not aligned properly for so long.one mainly bothered my lower back but I have been afforded tremendous relief. Maybe you need to let them check your back now, but could be atrophied constricted muscles conforming????
*Hope you found some relief with your procedure!!!!

Hi @Mojo333, Let's hope it resolves it's self and isn't anything to serious. I had a bad nights sleep last night, even with meds. It just ached and ached. I'm going to try and do a lot of stretching today and see if that helps.

Easy stretching now...sure do hope it's nothing serious.
All this lying and sitting we need to rest or hips also aggravated my back. You are still in early days.
Does heating pad help? I was icing my hip and a few times had heat on my back:heehee:
Hey, whatever works!

I saw the physio yesterday. He has put me on an exercise regime of walking and more walking. Just as much as I can do without causing to much discomfort. Which is amazing considering some of the posts I have read on here about heavy exercise regimes. I can also start to ride my bike a little if I feel comfortable with it next week. My back is also feeling better today, so all in all I'm a little more positive. Onwards and upwards :running:

Good news. Hope you continue to do well.
If it starts to cause you pain, ease off.
Sounds like all is going good.:ok:

I mowed the lawn yesterday evening with no I’ll effect, just a little aching later on. The leaves are falling here now and our house is surrounded by trees so I’ll get a little physio ever day keeping the garden in check. No heavy lifting though.

Just pumped my bike tyres up and checked the brakes. Looking forward to a little ride next week.

Well, after feeling really positive a week ago I’m feeling pretty down in the dumps at the moment.

I’m 7 weeks post op tomorrow and was hoping to be back at work. Well, back in the office anyway. I’ve been working from home the last few weeks, on and off. I had to attend a couple of meetings last week which meant a little driving, walking and standing more than I should have done. On top of that I’ve had a cold which has made me feel out of sorts. The end result is everything hurts. My back and hip hurt as do most of my other joints including my other hip, which has never given me any problems before.

I’ve been taking it easy over the weekend, lots of ice and rest, but to be honest it doesn’t seem to be helping as much as it usually does. I’m not sure if it’s the symptoms of having a cold on top recovering that are causing extra pain. Does anyone have any thought on this.

You are back to work too early and your body is complaining. At only 7 weeks out you are still very much in healing mode. I would scale back and work from home for a few hours per day. See how that works and then build up. 10-12 weeks is a normal time to return and then a phased return.

Hi @Alfie888, at almost six weeks after my revision surgery, I have been working from home and I am also feeling it! I can't drive yet and I am envious of you for that. But I will say working is pretty miserable after about four hours. My opposite and 'normal' hip is hurting, like yours, too. The weekend is all about the extra time to rest, hope it has a delayed effect and you feel better soon!

@Hiphiphray, Let’s hope a little rest will sort us out. I was pretty much pain free last week. I work for myself so can work from home ok. I’m just starting to go a bit stir crazy being in the house all day. I imagine the other hip hurting is probably caused by it overcompensating for the bad one. Yes, it’s been good to be able to drive, although I haven’t felt much like going out the last few days.

My six week check up was put back till next month for some reason. If things are still playing up I can ask the surgeon.

@Jaycey, I fear you are right. I don’t think I’ve done myself any favours last week.

7 weeks, still such early days. When I went back to work, it really wore me down. Seems like I handled it during the day and ten minutes after becoming sedentary at home to rest, get up and everything complained. Energy drain and stress..getting back to work so soon us definitely overrated except many of us don't have any options plus the cabin fever makes us proud to do something productive again!
And a cold. ...so sorry. Hope tough are resting today.
