THR Hi! Post THR recovery

I have received nil / none back up / check up since leaving the private facility.
Is this standard procedure? If so, I don’t understand the reasoning.

I‘m sorry you may have to absorb the cost of an x-ray and also that you have to wait almost a month to see your GP. My best advice is to take it easy until you get a diagnosis for the pain you’re dealing with. Rest, ice, OTC meds, use an assistive device if it helps….whatever it takes to get you through. Wishing you comfort and relief.

Areas of the mid to lower back can refer pain to the hip(s) Lucky you that it's your new one! (not!)

Even though your back is behaving better, it may have flared up a symptomatic response and I think, in most cases, the hip hurting when taking a step could be aggravated muscles and tendons.
When I get that kind of pain I take a waist belt, like a neoprene sweat band and wrap it around my waist but lower, like the lower waist to the top or my upper hips.
Would be a good test to see if it helps.
You mentioned you were back at the gym, by any chance were you doing good mornings and core work?
Sorry you need to wait until June 13th!! Yikes.

@JohnWilky

Thank you folksvery much appreciated , my basic gym work involved warm ups 10 mins on CT, stretch , 10 mins Bike , stretch , treadmill 30 mins / 45 mins , warm down , stretch . 3 x week , 1 day swimming ,light weights 2 x day steam & Sauna 3 x week.
So I’m summing my last gym day last Monday ( prior to French trip ) something went haywire.
Atm I have no other option than to take it easy, may try swimming soon when severe pain free.

Please don’t think I’m complaining, I am more than pleased and grateful with the treatment I have received ( especially Bonesmart) , I had free treatment in a superb private hospital by an excellent surgeon and support staff.

The ability to use the gym and workout is essential in my hopes of holding back the sands of time with my Parkinson’s. Plus being able to avoid babysitting the grand children and any daily chores Mrs Wilky mither me about.

Also hoping my setback maybe pertinent to other hippys .

Thank s so much for the support

Incidentally it’s a wee bit better this morning.

Plus being able to avoid babysitting the grand children and any daily chores Mrs Wilky mither me about.
:heehee: My first laugh of the day.

We don’t view sharing concerns here and seeking advice from anyone that may have experienced the same as complaining. I do understand your gym workouts and reasons behind doing so, overall health and well-being. Your workout doesn’t sound like you’re overdoing it so it’s difficult to say what caused the pain you’re experiencing. What is (ten minutes on CT) though?

I’m happy it’s a wee bit better today, JW. Please don’t push it and when / if you do return to swimming anytime soon, take it s-l-o-w. It is easy to overdo it in the water.
I hope it continues to ease for you. Take good care!

Hopefully it continues to improve. You are so right about exercising to help control Parkinson's.
Hopefully taking it easy for a couple more weeks won't set you back, the hip will improve and you are off to the races again.

And when you do feel better and want to start back at the gym maybe consider doing some easy water walking and stretching for a bit. Did that for physical therapy in the past to build me back up before going back to regular exercises. Less stress on the joints and bones.

Rubbish again this morning after resting all weekend , sharp pain ( sometimes) when planting foot down strange ! Going to physio this evening, not expecting any result but only available source atm .
Will let the forum know , anyone had similar 15 months on.
Good luck all .

 I was hoping this was resolving.
I don't know if this could be a bursitis issue when weight is placed on that leg, or not.
I understand it might be helpful to get the physio's take on this... hopefully he doesn't recommend trying to "work" it out until you can get a firm diagnosis.
I have found folks often find their solutions within their realm of expertise....
:fingersx:

 Hate this for you, JW. Wish it wasn’t so.
Wishing you comfort and relief.

Post appt with Phsyio.

Had a surprising thorough examination by the local NHS physio.

Many thxs Kay,

She feels that the replacement is fine, definitely no dislocation, which was a relief. Confirm that the muscle surrounding new hip is still weak and the present pain is probably due to recent back spasm.

Suggested I contact surgeon sec’ to arrange 12 month check up. Unfortunately have to be re - referred by my GP as I was discharged apparently? So on with that.

Recommended rest and ice, also suggested simple exercises 2 x day for 2 week for improvement.

So will see how that goes.

Withdrawn my half Marathon application and Iron Man triathlon entry.

Good luck all, nail biting hey, just thinking! New film The Hip, Tom Cruise as me, Nicole Kidman as Caroline??? Errrm.

@JohnWilky happy that you had a good visit with the physio and got some good recommendations. Love the rest and ice! Your sense of humor will definitely see you through this recovery and any minor bumps in the road.

Sorry folks , a latest update from the once well advanced to the most regressed hippy on Bsmart , apologies to my contenders.

Awaiting convo with GP on Monday next , I think ? I need an x Ray .New hip is bobbins atm , very sore and feeling very vulnerable on exercising

..Miserable pain occasionally sharp around the new hip outer , sometimes feels there is no cushion in the joint on stepping fwd .

Acing above knee left side and below ( shin splints ?? )

Of course this could all be related to recent back spasm ( month ago ) resting no gym aside a little pool work , get lot of relief from icing .

Such a shame I was going great innocuous pre back spasm event …Daily gym , even a couple games of football , well pleased but a big set back .

Had a lovely weekend just at leisure parc , but I couldn’t even ride a bike or throw myself down river rapids with grandkids .

Best of luck everyone , be careful.

I’m sorry you continue to be plagued by this, JW. I’m happy you’ll be having a conversation with your GP. Hopefully an x-ray will be scheduled to determine the cause of your pain, resulting in a plan of action to resolve it. Hang in there. Will be thinking of you and looking forward to an update after you learn more. :console2:
@JohnWilky

Had a chat with GP, advised XRay (result 10 days) didn't seem too concerned, but I’m still feeling the new hip, limping with pain on walking, but able to do gym session on Cross Trainer & stat bike, stretching is sore. Anyone had similar symptoms, esp after 15 month and not going so well?

I certainly hope you can get to the origin of the pain and discomfort you’re dealing with. It seems you’re able to engage in activity, but the pain / limping upon walking needs to be resolved. That has to be frustrating. Let’s see what the x-ray shows…
Wishing and hoping for pain free days for you, JW :fingersx::prayer: Thanks for checking in and keeping us in the loop. We care.
@JohnWilky

Can't imagine working out when you are in pain. I know the premise of working through the pain but not sure if gym is helping or hindering this situation. Hopefully the xray will have some answers. I know I am in pain the day after going to PT but its mostly sore muscles rather than pain. My PT and I had a good conversation at the start which laid down the grown rules of our exercises-absolutely no pain but to expect some sore muscles. Maybe a session or two with a PT who really knows hips would benefit you? I am not doctor and don't want to give you bad advice but maybe just lay off the gym for say two weeks and see how you feel and then go back to PT and tell them what is going on so they can give you the proper exercises.

Cheers S for that sensible advice, I will take that on board , I,m resting till we have x Ray results , I will take advice from a pro
.Just for guessing sake though I,m thinking it’s Bursitis, anyone with experience of this condition.
Thanks again S good luck.
