THR Hi! Post THR recovery

Guessing that like a lot of us you limped around for a good while before biting the bullet of THR. Takes a while for the body to readjust to working parts again. All those muscles were tighter, looser, or whatever they needed to be to protect the bad joint. Slow but steady progress is great, you know you are on the right path, it's just a little longer journey to get there.

how long is it necessary to use the raised toilet seat
If you are not on any restrictions from your OS you should be able to ditch the raised seat. See if you are comfortable getting up and down. This all depends on how low your toilet is.

Everything moving forwards you can basically decide on by your comfort level. If it doesn't hurt (or at least not much) you are good to go. It's all about listening to your own body and backing off if it's too much, or moving forward because whatever new activity didn't cause you pain or swelling.

Brief ( thank God say hipsters) 8 week summary,

see above still relying on one crutch ( stick ) not close to going without .

Walking well on the one stick 45 min to 1 hour walking without discomfort ( ice when I get home )

Simple exercising every day couple of times.

still uncomfortable when sitting relaxing.

Still terrible sleeping , can’t seem to nod off when I go to bed , have to get up and read or watch tv for a while , then normally nod off when Ireturn to bed , become a bit of a pattern, nodding during the day naturally.

Otherwise enjoying our 42 wedding anniversary today caring for Grand kids , feeling much better appetite wise too.

Brief enough haha

good luck everyone

Happy 42 Year Anniversary to you and Mrs JW! I hope you both have a lovely day.

Slowly but surely things are returning to normal. It feels at a snails pace some days, but you’ll get there. Don’t lose sight of the fact that this recovery can take a full year, noticing progress all along the way. It‘s good to read your appetite has returned and I hope sound sleep returns soon also, until then, catch some Z’s when you’re able. :sleep:
@JohnWilky

I think you are doing wonderfully. Hang in there. You are making improvements every day, even when you don’t see them clearly. Happy anniversary!

Happy belated anniversary, @JohnWilky :cheers:
The sleep part was the last piece of my road back to recovery to straighten up, so sincerest sympathies for the frustration.
Power naps were my saving grace.
Keep the faith.... You will get there.
(I won't depress you by telling you how long it was for me but suffice it to say, it did come along)
Hope your well is sweet.

@JohnWilky happy belated 42nd anniversary and 8 week hipversary! I’m so impressed that you are able to walk for 45 minutes to an hour, way to go!! Hope the sleep gets better for you soon

I'm trying to remember... All I DO remember us that it was a process... Since I had two new hips so ...no good side.:sigh:
Back sleeping really was hard.

However, I was so sleep deprived due to chronic pain prior to surgery that it was becoming a real annoyance.

One doctor asked me how long I had been suffering from insomnia?!
I said "I don't have insomnia, I just can't get comfortable enough to sleep."

If it is any help, I certainly sympathize.:friends:
It really IS a time thing.

JW congratulations on both anniversaries! I sometimes have difficulty getting asleep......laying on the operated hip gets better and better the more I keep trying but still not very comfortable! Your doing well friend!

Two months ago to date, you were just beginning this journey. Look how far you’ve come!
Amazing, isn’t it? I hope you have a lovely weekend and do something special to celebrate this milestone. Happy Two Month Anniversary, JW!
@JohnWilky

12 week Ani and as predicted by fellow smart smarties much much more mobile. Sleeping better though last night was rough but hey ! Rubbish Spring weather here in Manchester ,cold in fact , but still able to get out walking ( aided by elbow crutch )
Still uncomfortable when just lazing about , but have returned to the kitchen much to the pleasure of Mistress Wilky .

All in all 12 weeks and I,m almost back .

Still to master , walking without crutch ( as advised not going to rush it )
walking up / down stairs more than one step at a time.
Sleeping better.
Anxious to be able to get more cardio exercise other than faster walking.Need to fill these lungs again.

have just the weekend drove the car comfortably ( auto) still minor struggles getting in / out of car.

All in all feeling better again .

one quickie to Smarties is it ok to have a bath ? Showering no problem and scar is looking good. Dummy run sitting in bath successful . Thought I read that a bath was not advised ??

nowhere near cycling , swimming, running , walking unaided. ( dancing )

all tips greatly accepted , good luck everyone.

Hey there JW :wave:
I think you’re only 9 weeks and 1 day post op. By my calculation anyway. So you should be really pleased with your progress since you‘re three weeks less healed than you thought you were.

Regarding a bath, you’re best bet is to phone your surgeons office. Mine was a stickler about everything and didn’t want submersion into any body of water, bathtub, hot tub, lake etc until three months post op which for you would be June 1st. Like I said, mine was strict, possibly yours is more lenient. :bath: Good Luck in getting the ok. :ok:
@JohnWilky

Apologies L I am indeed 9 week +1 , it just seems 3 month haha. Some lazy thinking was just counting months I had my op March 1st.
My hunch was right re bathing , do you know why is the surgeon reluctant to advise full body bathing ? Would that ( daft I know ) inc swimming , not that I,m about to tackle the channel.
And thanks rapid reply for correcting me L .
