THR FCBayern's Recovery

:xmas-wave-smiley-emoticon:
Glad your holiday was happy and bright.
You sound like all is going very well so great job and great news.
You've had a long year of it but going into 2020 with a new hip and new knee will certainly make for a good year.
Continued healing vibes coming your way.

Thanks @Mojo333 2019 has been a long year. Besides the hip and knee I also had an ulnar nerve transposition last June partly caused by sitting in my recliner with my arm on the arm rest for 6 weeks following TKR. At this point my wife is regretting not taking out the extended warranty on me when we got married. :heehee: 2020 holds much promise for me, first and foremost living without constant pain and being mobile again! :egypdance: Then retirement at the of May and building our retirement home in the Caribbean, so definitely looking forward to seeing the backside of 2019 and ringing in 2020 and the next stage of life. :realing::surfer::swim:

Today makes 4 weeks with my super custom aftermarket hip. It's treating me much better than my original hip has for the past year. Went to physical therapy today without even taking ibuprofen or Tylenol and worked it pretty good without any pain, although everything is a bit tired. It's going to take a while to rebuild my stamina since both my knee and hip kept me so inactive over the past year, but that will come with time, I'm not going to try and rush it. Icing now after PT, I'm guessing tomorrow will be the real test of what the hip thought about today's PT.

So happy to hear you're icing now, preventive measures. Good that you're not taking any meds before PT, some folks have been told to do that. But if the PT is causing you pain, especially where you need meds to get through I'd say it's not the right PT. Just keep taking it slow and easy!

Made a multiple stop shopping trip today in anticipation of making Cioppino for new years dinner. When I went to get out of the car at my second stop I realized I left my cane sitting in the basket of the last store! :umm:Immediately turned around and thankfully it was still sitting in the cart in the parking lot. :) :-) (:All in all kind of a pain in the posterior but I'm taking it as a positive sign, even a week ago there's no way I would have walked away without it. :yay:

Happy New Year to all.

Forgetting your cane is a great sign!!!
Onward and upward...:tada:

@FCBayern it's definitely a good sign when you start walking off and leaving it. And, you definitely aren't alone, I think all of us have at one time or another! I've gotten very strange looks when I've gone back to retrieve it. Left it hanging on the side of the check out counter and had to turn around to go get it! :egypdance:

Question for the Bonesmarties in the UK. We are planning a trip to Ireland in June, we have tickets to one of the Euro Championship games in Dublin on 6/24. We have always had Ireland on out bucket list and plan to stay for a couple of weeks, does anyone have suggestions on places we don't want to miss? We are big on natural beauty, culture and history much more than touristy spots like the Blarney stone. Definitely looking forward to experiencing a true local Irish Pub.

Happy One Month Anniversary!
Walking away from your cane at one store to another is certainly progress.

Planning a trip to Ireland sounds so exciting. Lucky you! I've never been but would love to since Irish blood flows through my veins. I'd settle for the Blarney Stone...or is that the one people kiss? Ugh, maybe not then. An Irish pub sounds more fun anyway.

Thankfully you have lots of time to heal before your trip. Wishing you only the best!
@FCBayern

Thanks @Layla I too have Irish blood, one of the reasons we want to go. The Blarney stone is the one they kiss and I've heard it's kind of a tourist trap. I'm glad I have lots of time to heal but based on how I'm feeling this early in recovery my joints won't hold me back. My knee is even showing real progress, the hip became a real problem before the knee had a chance to fully recover and I think it's really appreciating not gimping around anymore.

Went for a fairly long 30 minute walk yesterday using my cane but trying to put very little weight on it, just use it for stability. Since I don't use the cane in the house at all anymore I thought I would try a shorter walk today without the cane. Didn't get too far down the road before my limp became much more evident and the muscles in the operated area started complaining. I decided discretion was the better part of value and turned around there and returned to my ice. I'll just have to stay patient about losing the cane. I know I'm making good progress but it's difficult not to strain that patience muscle!:oyvey:

Good for you for. Listening to your body so you can avoid membership to the infamous ODIC (Overdid It Club)

Recovering from self induced tendonitis or other issues are avoidable are not something I want to see you deal with.:nah:
I learned a few times the hard way as it is often the only way I could ascertain the boundaries between enough and too much!
Hope you are assuming the position...icing and elevating
Hope your week is sweet !

My surgery was done with an anterior approach. It's difficult for me to see the entire scar well even in a mirror, however after my shower this morning I noticed that top end of the scar appears like it may be infected. There is a red circle around the area and it may have some pus showing. This scares the :censored: out of me. Just got off the phone with OS office and they will squeeze me in at 4:15. Everything has been going so well, I hope this is not a disaster in the making.

@FCBayern Oh dear - please keep us updated! Fingers crossed this is just a one off. :fingersx:

@Jaycey just got another phone call from the OS, they want x-rays and moved me up to 1:30 so I'm on the way out of the house now. I'm glad, it gives me less time to freak out about it.

All the best my friend! We are with you!

I hope all turns out well.

Crisis averted:yahoo:Doc thinks it just a small abscess from a stitch being ejected from beneath the skin. I had felt like there might be a bit of stitch coming out the other day but it's in a spot I can't really see myself. I was going to my wife look at it but then it seemed to be gone so I'm pretty sure he's right. He put me on 10 days of antibiotic just to be sure. He also took x-rays of both knee and hip and everything looks great. :yes!: Quite the emotional roller coaster today, glad it's behind me.

Wonderful, good news. Also, nice the office was quickly responsive. Now have a good night's rest.
