THR FCBayern's Recovery

Jeez, @FCBayern
Had a rollercoaster of emotions catching up on your last posts.
Thankfully they got you in quickly so you could get reassurance.
I had a seemingly bigger more puckery (?) stitch at the top of my anterior approach incision also...closest to waistline and it took the longest to heal. It's where we bend and possible where bands from clothing rub.
I wore high cut briefs that detoured that area...
Probable not an option for you...maybe bikinis.:heehee:
Glad all is good!!!

Today is kind of a day of thanks for me. I was originally scheduled for surgery on this date but asked to be notified if they had any cancellations which thankfully they did. Prior to surgery my hip and groin pain were so bad I had resorted to using my cane even to move around the house. What I have now could only be described as discomfort if anything. Additionally I've had big improvements with my knee as well, OS said it was probably referred pain from the hip bothering the knee, I don't know if it was that or my hobbled gait but I don't much care because it doesn't hurt anymore! :yahoo: Very happy with my new super custom aftermarket hip and really thankful I didn't have to endure 5 additional weeks of pain with the factory original. :heehee:

I know what you mean about the pain being so bad. My original surgery date was cancelled while I was sitting in pre-op due my OS was involved in a car accident on the way in. At first I was in shock and then the thought of having to wait, yet again, plus possibly having to go back to work until new surgery date about sent me over the edge! Thanks to my fellow Bone Smarties they helped me through the two week wait till I finally had surgery. Much to be thankful for.

Gratitude.. I think many of us feel it after our surgeries. I still do! We live in a good time where a diseased joint can be replaced and give us a full, active life back.
You sound great, so happy for you!

You are so right @CricketHip with 3 replacement joints I can't imagine what my life would be like if not for the miracle of modern medicine. If I hadn't been able to replace my ankle I'm sure my knee and hip problems would have become a problem years earlier.

A day of thanks is a good thing. Stopping to reflect on where you've come from and where you're going. You're future looks bright, and I'll bet your heart feels light like all is well with the world. I'm happy for you.
Enjoy the rest of the week! :)
@FCBayern

Thanks @Layla my sweet pup (see avatar) had a couple questionable spots surgically removed today so my recovery buddy is now in recovery too. Now I get to pay back some of the love and attention he has had for me the last 5 weeks. My heart is definitely light. My futures so bright I've gotta wear shades. :dogwalk:

My sweet fur baby is still feeling the effects of surgery and pain meds. I've decided to spend the night by his side on the couch as he has spent so many nights beside me here comforting me through the night. It's the least I can do for a companion that has given nothing but love and support to me when I couldn't even take him for a walk. I will be forever grateful to his and my wife's unending love and support. I could not have endured the last year without them both.

Just catching up on your thread @FCBayern So thrilled your infection was all topical. Loved reading your gratitude post. Very encouraging to see how well you are doing. Especially leaving your cane behind and no lasting knee pain!

Hope your sweet fur baby comes through his surgery fully healed as well. So sweet you slept with him. I am humbled by my sweet hubby too. What a gift to be loved and cared for.

Don't know exactly what I did this morning but I moved wrong and sent a serious stabbing pain through the joint area. Just one of the small bumps we all experience I'm sure. I've pretty much spent the rest of today assuming the position :ice: :ice: Still feels a little tender when I first get up.

I did something similar, too. It was very upsetting and it took me about a week to bounce back.. so frustrating. But it happens and then we vow to be more careful, until we accidentally do something else! It's definitely not a straight line to complete recovery

You sound good and glad to know your pup is getting sone extra attention, too. We are all in this together, pets and humans alike.

I hope you have a good night.

6 weeks today and the end of restricted movement. :yes!: Not that I'm going to be in a hurry to press my boundaries anytime soon. Still seeing slow and steady improvements so plan to keep on keeping on the way I have been. I can now actually put shoes and socks on by myself without aids and without pain:wow: It's been months since I could do that without significant pain and I just couldn't without aids the last couple of months before surgery. I start back to work next week which I know is early especially with my commute. I do van pool however and my Boss had no problems with me working a couple of days at home a week to ease my way in. I'm pretty sure it's not going to be too much of an issue, I went back after 6 weeks with the TKR and I wasn't nearly as healed as I feel this time with THR. I also keep 3 jel packs in the freezer at work so I can basically ice all day if I need or want to. I'll be doing a fair amount of icing as a precautionary measure. The only thing I need to do after work is dinner (I'm the cook in the house) but I've been trying out Hello Fresh and find the meals easy to prepare and no real thinking required on my part so they should work well if I'm tired.

My heart is definitely light. My futures so bright I've gotta wear shades
Love your quote above! :walking:

Aww, your poor sweet fur baby. I hope he's doing better by now. :puppysmooze:

Six weeks today, woohoo! You're doing well. It's great news that your boss is open to you working a couple days from home as you ease back in. Also good you can rest once back home for the day. Bringing the ice packs is wise in the event you get a little stiff or some discomfort occurs. I hope your return goes smoothly.

Hubs and I tried the same meal kit company you mentioned last week for the first time and we're scheduled again for this week. It's nice to switch it up with some new options and we've had no complaints yet. Pretty good if I do say so!

Have a good week!

@Jamie I have been supporting another organization through Amazon Smile but I want to change my support to BoneSmart. If I read the associated threads correctly changing the receiving organization to Foundation for the Advancement in Research in Medicine, Inc. means BoneSmart will get the donations. Can you confirm that for me? I want to make sure I made the right choice to support the forum. BoneSmart has been a huge resource for me through 2 replacements (well 3, but a little less with the ankle) and I know I can donate directly but since I use Amazon on a regular (My wife claims I'm addicted :heehee: ) I would like to make sure I can help there as well. Thank you to all of the moderators and BoneSmarties that have helped with my journey.

Joe

Love reading your six week report @FCBayern

Putting on your own socks and shoes is huge! That’s a milestone to be sure. Your happiness at progress shines through every post. I am glad you can phase back to work. The commute share is great. Just be careful with different seating. New hips like to be babied a bit. I have a desk job and seating is so key.

Never have tried Hello Fresh. You are spot on, variety is the hard part of meal prep. I think I’d cook anything if I just didn’t have to answer the question, “What’s for dinner?”

Hope you have a great week!

Joe, thank you so much for asking about how to benefit BoneSmart through Amazon Smile. As you know, that program donates a part of each purchase a person makes on Amazon to us once you're signed up. You are correct that the donations go through our parent organization, The Foundation for the Advancement in Research in Medicine, Inc. (FARM). So that's the non-profit organization you need to list when you sign up. I think this is a cool way for people to "painlessly" help BoneSmart as there isn't any money coming out of your pocket. I think most of the world buys things on Amazon these days and this way you get the things you want and help us at the same time. Double winner!!! Thank you so much!

For anyone who is not familiar with the Amazon Smile program, here's a link for you:

A couple of new milestones for me. I took my wife to the movies last night to see 1917 and had no issues with sitting. Very good movie by the way. The second is a bigee for me, when we got home my sports car (Honda S2000) that my wife has been driving for months because I just couldn't get in and out of it, needed to be put in the garage for the night. I decided I was going to see if I was ready yet to be able to get in and out. Not only can I but it's easier than it has been in years! :yahoo: I just got back from running some errands and it felt so good to have my baby back again. I feel a coastal drive in the not too distant future. :driver:
