THR Cpollock Surgery June 19, 2017<

Thank you @Jacey and @ Gone again I found this last night and had a read. My issue seems to have resolved. The worst is over.
@Mojo333 you are probably right. Plus the trauma of the surgery.
On the bright side, today is day 6 post op. And it's shower day so I'm looking good forward to that. I will do that this morning yet. Then lunch then meds then a nap. I believe my grandkids will be out later for a visit.

Oh you poor thing! I would have suggested that you got an over the counter enema as you needed a good solution! I'm just pleased you've been relieved. Did it block up the drains? :heehee:

@chillin I am having same problem..today I am starting adding prune tablet with the Colaise...my visiting nurse said Colaise alone usually doesn't do it...she did suggest MOM and I don't like prune juice so I bought the tablets for bedtime!

@Josephine thank you. My husband called health link for advice and the RN said if the suppository didn't get things started I would need to go to emergency and have an enema done. It was 4 hours of torture but seem OK now that things are moving. It's all good.

@Donnarita Hang tough. You will be OK.

Anyone have tips for sleeping in Bed? I'm flat on my back and can only sleep in bursts. I'm wondering if I couldn't sleep on my side. I had direct posterior approach on my left hip.

Thank you to all of you for your support.

Yayyy you went :loveshwr:. I've been checking on you a lot.... You will need to have everything to help this problem in the house ....on hand as it um comes back at Least it had for me.... I am keeping up my stool softeners, high fiber diet...lots of water...have softeners , fleet enemas on hand in case, Mirolax, , Prune juice in the house ... I eat apples lots but mostly beans in all forms and Split pea soup it's been what almost a week of normal...at the normal be old time even :wowspring:

Bed.... I asked my doctor on this before I went back or side not operated side....that too must have a pillow between legs..... I mostly sleep that way .

You should check with your OS's office to ask about sleeping on your side. I'm not sure about the restrictions. I had anterior so no restrictions but I will say I couldn't comfortably get in my side for a few weeks. The first couple times I did it, it felt very strange - not hurtful but strange - but I got used to it and now it is fine. If you can't sleep in bed, many people go to a recliner to sleep. I have a couch with the foot rest that goes up like a recliner and I slept there a couple nights when I couldn't get comfortable. You just have to find what works for you. Keep in mind that it all keeps getting better. I'm sure if you think back to when you first got home, and then now a week later, you can see the improvement. Baby steps but improvement none the less. Hang in there!!

@cpollock..I had a right posterior. I could sleep on my my left, with a pillow between my legs.

@1GreatGran you didn't do cpollock's tag properly so it didn't work. I edited it for you so now you can see it is blue and underlined - what's known as a hyperlink. You must be sure you get people's name correct or the tag doesn't work!

@1GreatGran. How soon after The surgery did you try sleeping on your side? I spent last night in the recliner. I have a terrible tickly cough that seems to want to start up as soon as I'd doze in bed. Not sure what's going on there but it's not pleasant and is disrupting my rest.

@Josephine I had light sedation. And spinal and have developed a tickly cough a couple days ago. Is this normal? I have been sleeping on my back which doesn't help and wake up almost choking. I'm not coughing anything up. I've had coughs like this when I've had colds but I don't have a cold. It even comes on sometimes when I'm eating.
Anyone have this issue post op?

This is not a 'definite' explanation but a 'very likely' one. Sometimes, for a variety of reasons, an anaesthetist likes to support a patient's airway by use of a laryngeal mask which you can see here Anaesthetics - spinals, femoral blocks, GAs and everything else. Occasionally the aftermath of a 'larry' mask is irritation in the larynx which can hang around for a week or two.

@Josephine I do recall the mask and thought it was oxygen. This explains a lot. I'm prone to dry hacking coughs when I'm unfortunate enough to get a cold. Any tips on how to treat or it will have to ride it's Course? I may try and sleep on my side and see if that helps. I just had a slippery elm lozenge and may gargle. I've had so little sleep, seems I doze off and the cough starts. This has been the past over 24 hours that it's become exasperating.

I can promise you this 'mask' you never knew anything about! Did you look at the article I left you? I think not because otherwise you would have known it was very different. It will abate eventually. Just keep a drink nearby and have boiled sweets to suck if the need arises.

Today is Day 8 post op. Today so far has been an OK day. Just the tickly cough is still there but managed a few hours sleep. I talked to the assistant at the surgeons office today and it was determined that it would be OK to sleep on my non operated side with pillow between my legs and pillows to support me front and back. I didn't want to try til I had confirmation. I had a nice shower and my hair shampooed, yay. My appetite is slowly returning so I'm eating some now. I'm feeling very positive and am so happy to be on this side. It's windy out right now so I'm not venturing outside like @Gone again. Bill, I hope you enjoyed it. I'm so thankful to all the bonesmart family and all the support and reassurance. Cheryl

@cpollock I'm so happy things are turning around for you... you'll find I do not like to tag every time I post. I suggest above the pillows on your not operated side but I never meant just do it. I always feel people ought to check with their doctor or office help to be sure of any advice on here or anywhere lol

Hugs

@MyAussieGirl I agree, the surgeon is the boss. I hope you are well and getting sleep. I'm just relaxing and watching a movie called all we had on Netflix. Icing and elevating I the recliner.
