When I was younger, my mum was terrified that I would fall and break a hip and I've had some near hits. Falling off fences, making ice slides, that end with a wall... you know, kids stuff.... Now im an adult, you'd think I'd get better. .... ha ha.... I promise to be good. I love my new hip. X

Am an eejit. You mean.... lolol. (Idiot in english..)

Audball
You made me laugh. You are great! :)
İ remember when i first visited GLasgow years ago, i could not understand a word that taxi driver was saying. İ thought if my father would see me puzzled like that, he would have said "what a shame, i spent so much money to send my daughter to a private school to learn foreign languages and she does not understand"

Hi Selin, seems like things are moving along well for you, nice and smooth just like it should be. Great to hear you are feeling happy about the surgery. I am happy for you :)

Take care......no climbing on sheds like action woman aka Aud, what's she like eh.lol.

Audball I can just hear your words with a Scottish accent and I smile in a large way! BTW I have 2 Scottish terriers that I speak to in a very bad Scottish accent. When my 26 year old daughter was 13, she went on a People to People Adventure trip to UK, guess what country she loved best? Scotland. She brought me home an amazing small clock from Edinburgh which I still have on my desk to this day. :)

Susan my mum has a Scottish terrier, called Dougal. He is one crabbit dug. Lol. I used to poke him under the table.... then he would nip my dads feet. I was too quick and he grabbed the first available foot. Okay..... so I have an evil streak. Lol. He is so spoiled. We took him to a vet and my mum kept making me stop the car. She said Dougal was awfy pale! How could she tell that, he's a black dog! .... nutter. X

They are feisty dogs with strong opinions. Mine are named August and Henry. We got our first Scottie when my daughter was 14, his name was Oliver. Just as you, she teased him, making him scared of the vacuum cleaner and garden hose. He still loved her though.

Poppet

Hi Poppet,
Thanks for asking.
İ am getting much better. İ am now 3 weeks post op. Nearly no pain, just muscle soreness if i sit for long. İ am almost through with most of my medications now. Today the PT made me walk without any support but i am limping and i stilldont feel that i am ready witout 1 crutch yet, but getting close. She also made me try to stay on 1 foot, the operated one for a couple of seconds. İ have that wicked fear as if the prosthesis may break the femur bone if i put all my weight without any support on the operated one at this point. Well probably this is also because the muscles of my other leg (THR 15 yrs ago) is not strong as well.

İ am planning to go to work for 2-3 hours starting by the middle of next week. İt will be post of 4 weeks then. İ still feel tired or drained out especially in the afternoons. Thats why i will start slowly and test myself. İ wont need to drive as i moved to a residence next door to my office for a temporary period. Thus i will be able to rest when i need to. İ really wonder when this loss of energy during the day time will be over.

So far, so good. Getting to where i want to see myself slowly but surely.

You are doing brilliant. Good luck at work. Everything is going really well in your recovery.

İ feel happy like a kid when i go out.

Last week end it was like 15 degrees celcius and sunny in İstanbul. This weekend it is 3 degrees and raining, even snowed last night.

But i had the energy to go out. After a quick dinner outside, went to the movies and watched the film "les miserables". İts a wondeful musical and i loved the acting of HUgh GRant. His acting was way beyond than the actor in the movie called Lİncoln. İ was surprised with myself becauese it was a long film and i was able to sit for a long time of course by giving short walking breaks after an hour or so

Going out for leisure does help a lot for mental healing definetely!

Yep longer you put it off, less likely that you want to go out. Some of our Cinemas have big comfy seats and plenty leg room, but don't want a numb bum just yet! lol

Absolutely getting out is good for the soul... So pleased you had a pleasant time :)

Saw Les Mis back in January, never saw the play. I'm not usually one for musicals, but it really held my attention. It certainly was a movie to see on the big screen. Good luck with work next week Selin.

İ do feel that if i walk too long i start to feel a strain on my other hip Therefore i am looking forward to the pool that will protect my other hip as well while improve the muscle strenght on the operated one. Well, one develops protective measures when you suffer during your childhood.

Hi Selin,

You are amazing in how well you are recovering from your THR surgery!!

I just wanted to say, that it is quite common to feel some soreness and tired in the other hip -- whether it's a THR hip or a "normal" hip. You are correct in that the body does develop some protective measures and one is that you may favor your other hip a bit more in order to protect the recently operated hip and this can lead to some muscle soreness and fatigue. I am sure that the pool will feel good for you, especially just floating around off of your feet :)

When you get there, the cane will also help you to support both of your hips as you continue to get stronger and to balance our that limp. Sometimes it takes a while to get rid of the limp, more time than you may have expected in the beginning but that is just because of the on-going healing of those muscles that were disrupted during the surgery and that are adapting to the new hardware. Good idea to carry on with the crutches. I was to be on assistive devices for 5 weeks until I returned to see my OS for follow-up.

Do take it easy on the return to work and if you feel too much fatigue, scale back again for a bit longer.
Take care,
Cardie

Post op 4 weeks status

İ am sooooo happy!
İ realize that one of the major things that makes me happy the most is being capable of doing things by myself and the sense of independence and freedom!

Thus at 4 weeks, i can walk unassisted, yet prefer to go out with cane outside of home.
İ can walk in downtown by myself.
İ probably can, but not yet tried, drive as well.
And no more nasty joint pain.
What else would one need after such a long painful, depressed and anxious period pre-op?

The last 2 weeks İ've been working from home with the emails and some phone calls, for a couple of hours per day. My focus is much much better since 10 days or so. Not yet started to go to work physically. Tomorrow will give it a try for 2-3 hours and see how it goes.

The spring is in the air for me)))
