So glad you are doing well Selin. Your story truly inspired me with my surgery and recovery.

Hi All,
I've been busy with work for a while and was away.
It has been over 2 months now since surgery and life is good. Swimming workout has been helping me a lot.
My second appointment with the OS is at week 12 post op, which is on the 14th of May.
I have been walking properly, have no pain on the operated hip, just some minor sensitivity at the incision area if I touch it, and kind of warmer compared to my other hip. But swelling is gone, fat is still there :-)
So far, all is good. :-)
Greetings from Istanbul
Selin

sansabosa, yes, Selin, I'm doing great! I'm back at work full schedule, and I even took a yoga class today. I'm walking well, and everything seems to be starting to line up. Which is a good thing, because my husband is having back surgery ( laminectomy and fusion of L4-L5; he's already fused from L2- L4) Friday so I will be his caregiver. Last time I continued to work while he was recovering so I'm hoping to be able to do that this time, too.

Hi Selin. Good news that your life is back to normal and pain free ... I hear you on the stubborn fat! I am now able to work on that, I'm getting out a lot more and can now walk a few miles, although hills are still a wee bit challenging. Its a good thing when your other knee hurts more than your operated hip, time to change priorities. After struggling to use our airline points, we settled on NYC, Berlin and a week in the Alsace in September. Still hope to make Istanbul one of these days. If you ever do that cruise to Alaska -- lets meet up for dinner! Vicki

Great report Selin! You are doing really well. It's good to be this far along isn't it? I'm eight weeks now and am very happy with progress.

Hi Selin! Great to hear from you. I have been wondering how you are doing. I will look you up on Facebook.
Diane

Hi Selin, I hope that you are going from strength to strength.

Hi Ladies,
I am fine. My new hip is doing just great, I am very happy with it.
My 2nd check up, at 12 weeks, a couple of weeks ago, went very well. The surgeon was very pleased with the placement of the hardware. I had a control Xray for the first time after the operation. They (the surgeon, professor and his young resident) nearly forgot to see me as the xray was sent on line from the radiology dept to their screen before I was back. They were very technical! The young assistant said the bone ''embraced'' the prostheses pretty well. What a terminology! That was important as my femur was kind of C curved, deformed from previous surgeries. Any way, no pain any more.
I ve been swimming since post op 5 weeks and this helped my muscles very much. The surgeon was happy with my abductor muscles.
Now, my other issue is that I have some pain on my other knee which started a year before this last operation. The pain disseaped by 50% since the operation but it is still there if I take the stairs, or walk a slightly hilly road etc. Istanbul is kind of like San Francisco, hilly...Thus if I dont feel myself strong enough on my other hip or knee or if I m going to walk a distance in public, I take my folded cane with me, but use it on my other side :-)

Problems never disseaper but you learn to live with them and manage ...
How about you girls?
Cheers from chaotic Istanbul
Selin

sansabosa selin, how glad i am you posted-- I've missed you recently :) Ha-- your medical team ignored you for a digital display-- the future of medicine...LOL I'm glad they and you are pleased with what's gone on so far, but I am sorry about the knee. We don't want that to get any worse. You must be in terrific shape walking all those hills. :)
I see up there that you note that when the swelling goes away the fat does not. This is a major disappointment to me! I really seem to remember the OS telling me that fat melts with this type of surgery...

sansabosa, it sounds like you're doing really well. I think that walking up an incline will be difficult for a while, those are different muscles than just plain walking. My first hip is weak when I walk up any slight incline, it takes time but just think how much better you are now....that's amazing.

Hi Selin, I had my 12 week check up with the surgeon about a week ago, everything is looking good and he assures me the pain I still feel will go in time, but if I'm no better in another 10 weeks, to go back and see him. I've been really lucky with getting a good, caring surgeon.
