THR Cassidy's hopalong recovery<

Cassidy, I keep thinking back to when you were on the pre-op side struggling with your decision.
Who would have imagined that this was in your future, in the earliest days of your recovery.
But, you're doing it! Not only caring for yourself the best you can, but hubby also.
It's a testament to your strength.

We'll be here for you, so no worries there. Stop by whenever you have time.
We'll rejoice in the "good" with you and lift you up when you're having a rough day.
Please get enough rest in all of this. You'll be no good to hubs if you're not taking care of yourself first this early into recovery. Remember what the flight attendant says on the plane...If you are traveling with someone who needs assistance, secure your mask first, then help the other person.
Make sure your mask is secure, Cassidy.
Sending love and a hug. :loveshwr: :console2:
@Cassidy

@Cassidy, I can't possibly add to what everyone else has said here other than echo it and let you know there's one more "Bone Sister" out there rooting for you and Mr Cassidy to get through .....and to grow even closer during the healing phase you're both experiencing together. Mutual vulnerability and dependence seems to foster and enhance just that kind of closeness if there is to be a silver lining to your situation. Hang in there! :friends:

Thank you @Layla and @1stSurgery - I'm so grateful to everybody for saying the right things to make me feel a bit better.

I had a rough day today, because hubby rang to say his pulse rate rose in the night, but that they'd dealt with it. A bit later a nurse rang to say he'd fainted whilst having an X-ray and banged his head, which was bleeding. When I got up to the hospital they told me he needed a CT scan to see if he'd got any internal damage to his head, but his chest X-ray had been all right when they eventually did it with him lying on a bed.

They'd also given him codeine, which makes him vomit, so they'd had to give him an anti-emetic, but he still felt very sick and sorry for himself.

He rang a couple of hours ago to say he was feeling a bit better. I told him not to budge in the night (they've given him a bottle) and to make sure he didn't spring me any more dreadful surprises.

It does seem like one step forward, two back.

Hip is holding out, stamina not so good, but hardly surprising!!

Thanks again for letting me vent - it's barely hip related, but does help with the mental state!!:sos:

Tough times. What horrid medications are given as painkillers. Hoping for a better day with better care for him. Your hip must be miraculous or responding well to all the exercise. Keep on.

It doesn't matter if you vent and it's not hip related. It's what you're living right now and we're here for you.
We want you well and hubs well too. You are in recovery, very early recovery, you're going to get tired and have good days and bad days. We'll be here no matter what kind of day it is. Stay in touch.
Hugs
@Cassidy

So sorry you are dealing with all this plus a major recovery. Hope things ease for both you and hubby.

I saw your note on my thread that hubby is coming home and joining the sponge bath and long handles club. I'm glad he's doing well enough to come home. Wishing you both all the support and help and healing energy you need!

Layla has it right. It doesn’t matter that it isn’t hip related. I’ve been on here for about 1 1/2 yrs now and read MANY posts not hip related but life is about more than hips/knees and we have to deal with what comes our way. It is helpful to have someone or somewhere to hear our frustrations and encourage us along the way. As you’ve already found, BS is an amazing place with some very amazing supportive people. I always found it fascinating, too, that you almost feel like you know some of them and feel like they are friends which they truly are. It’s just that we don’t get to meet them in person. You are doing great. Just keep remembering to pamper yourself a bit and get plenty of rest. You will be of no help or comfort to your husband if you don’t get enough rest yourself. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. :roseshwr:

Cassidy you will be surprised at how fast your husband will progress. Especially since he felt well before all that happened. My husband also had a double by-pass 2.5 years ago... chest pain after shoveling snow. Luckily no heart attack. They did a cardiac cath and said surgery foy you sir. He was back to normal within 2 months. My best wishes go out to both of you.

As I start my work week:sorry: not ready for it today...
Wanted to send a shout out to you.
Hope hubby is stabilizing AND that you are okay today.

Hi @Cassidy
Thinking of you this morning. Hope you got some sleep last night.
Hopefully things start calming down soon.
It will be nice when hubs is released and you're both able to rest comfortably at home.
Wishing you strength and a peaceful week.

Hello @Cassidy,
Checking in this Monday morning (BC Canada time!) to see how you and hubby are doing, and have just read your Saturday thread....a rough day for you both is an understatement. I am hoping that today has been a better day for your hubby, and he is back on track with his recovery. I am sincerely hoping that you have managed to get some rest yourself and that your hip is healing, despite the roller coaster ride. Thinking of you and sending prayers and positive thoughts to you both.

Thank you for all your lovely, encouraging messages. I'm going to visit hubby later on today; he was a bit brighter yesterday, but I think his fall has knocked us both a bit and made us lose a bit of confidence. I'm interested in your comment about your husband not having had a heart attack, @Quiltmom, because I don't think my husband did - he was getting a tightening - but the hospital doctor looked at his notes and said he'd had a heart attack. They did say there wasn't any muscle damage, but I'd like to know if it was a heart attack, if only for insurance purposes.

I'm managing quite well at home, but obviously I'm feeling a bit alone here. I hope you ladies understand the feeling I've got at the moment; I almost feel a bit homesick in my own house, because everything is so strange and I associate it with my being an invalid and my husband being ill. I hope in a few months time, once we're both back to normal (maybe longer in my case?), things will start to feel homely again.

I was going to try to get back to work (only part-time) after 6 weeks, but I may tag another week or so on so that we can both relax together for a couple of weeks. I'm supposed to be seeing the OS next Monday, so I'll be interested to see what he has to say.

I've been having a few shooting pains in my leg today - when I'm sitting comfortably - but I think they must be the zingers that I've read about! Otherwise all appears well.

Hi Cassidy, I am sure that your home will feel,well, more homely, when you are able to do the things you want. I am finding it very frustrating being in the kitchen. I never realised how many things were either in a low cupboard of the very highest cupboard. Luckily I am not here alone but I do hate keep asking my husband over things out for me and of course there are always things I forget.

I think the extra week before you go back to work sounds a great idea. Enjoy spending some recovery time together

@Cassidy I would highly recommend you put off your return to work. Six weeks is very early - even for part time. And since you have had the added stress of your husband's health to deal with you really need to wait until you are feeling totally confident and rested.

If you have the option of staying away from work longer, I'd seriously consider it, Cassidy.
You need the time to rest and heal. Both physically and emotionally. You've had a rough few weeks
and you need to take care of yourself. Maybe you and hubby will enjoy resting together at home for a few more weeks as you both ease back into your routines and life. You'll get there, all will be waiting for you once you're stronger.
Hugs to you!
@Cassidy

My boss knows what's going on with hubby and has said don't rush back so, depending on when he gets home, I'll make sure I have at least a couple of weeks with him, just sogging as my mother says.

He's still giving me grief, because his heart is beating well, but they had the crash team out to him twice yesterday because he's passing out every time he stands. They've done lots of tests, but don't yet know what's causing it. Hubby's fed up with bed rest, feeling tired and having no appetite. So not much fun at the moment!

I've really had enough of hospitals!!

Hip cooperating with the occasional grumble - I think it's a she!! Should I name her, or will that make her a separate entity, when actually I don't think of her as anything but part of me - I never expected that?!

Is hubby's blood pressure too low? They put patients on this cocktail of medication that is sometimes just too strong. I know when I had my heart issues the medication made me very light headed. I finally convinced staff to lower the dosage of blood pressure meds. Hope he gets this sorted soon!

Sorry you are having such a stressful time and really hope your OH is well enough to come home very soon. It's good that the fainting is happening in the hospital and not when he's home.

I also do not think about my hip as being separate. I have never been aware of the actual joint since it was replaced, anything I have felt was incision or muscle pain. When I started working again (I'm self-employed) I wasn't able to sit for long because I wasn't used to a harder chair - too much time reclining in an armchair. So being able to sit comfortably when you go back to work is something you might consider now. I bought a memory foam seat pad from Dunelm and cut it to shape.
