THR beachlily'srecovery thread

Hi kids.... sorry not getting Geritol connection??

The tv adverts implied a complete gentle miracle drug. It was like take a single swig and all would be right in the world. Now that Sarah found out it's laced with alcohol maybe it really did work? Basically a socially acceptable way for housewives in the 60's to be roaring alcoholics without anyone knowing you were drinking? :egypdance:

I find it a challenge to keep up on all the posts/threads too. I find myself checking often at the top of the page to see who's thread we are derailing :whistle:

@beachlily Nice to see you have such a loyal following here on your thread. Hope you are not suffering any ill affects after your outing yesterday.

Hi! It was great to get out yesterday! Fresh air felt good and seeing friends made me feel less like a patient. Haha. Definitely needed a good nap afterwards.

Mmmm I think cough medicine has alcohol too.... hand sanitizer??
So many things have alcohol. Ora-gel that we used to swab our babies mouths in for teething was found to have dangerously high levels of alcohol. (Most of us in our 50's and 60's had our soothers dipped in brandy when we were teething).
I was an active social worker until all this nonsense with my leg and hip started. I worked in a homeless shelter with over 100 men. We eventually had to get rid of hand sanitizer because they would fill cups and water bottles with it from the dispensers and literally drink it. The would buy it by the gallon at the dollar stores as well. :shocked:

Geritol? Dubious? Confused:;
Hope you are having another good day! Yep, my original post was just me wishing for your energy level at day 3! Actually I could use that kind of energy everyday! :loll:
@beachlily

AHA!!! Well at this moment I’m sitting in recliner with ice pack on hip and a comfy blanket on me:). Hopefully going to TRY to get out in the beautiful weather later... but nap sounds good too!

Carriemay60.... I’m a retired school counselor and we had students drinking the hand sanitizer:. Crazy stuff right? I mean at least they could have added some mint and made a Purell Mojito

The hand sanitizer stories are crazy! I've never heard that. Ish...pukey!

Happy to read you handled your outing well yesterday. I was a tad worried about you.
I hope you're able to squeeze in a nap if you haven't already and enjoy the beautiful weather outdoors.
Warm enough here in the frozen tundra to fling the windows open for a few hours today :happydance: :yay:
Happy Sunday...Spring has sprung! :flwrysmile:

Day 5 post op. Had PT this morning- he’s great! Supportive and encouraging- said I’m ahead of the curve but to take it slowly:). I can walk without crutches or cane but I feel more stable having at least the cane. I’m not risking falling!!!! Dropped one dose of Tylenol so I’m only on 2 pills per day plus Meloxicam( Mobic) and aspirin for blood clot prevention. I HATE the compression socks-actually cut them off last night because they’re so hot. I have a call into OS about that. Husband and I took our dog to her agility training today ( I had a friend run her) so now home in chair relaxing and icing. It’s so beautiful out in NJ today I’m wishing I could plant BUT I know bending is definitely not happening anytime soon. Basket flowers it is for a while. Enjoy your day all.

I can't recommend you not obey your surgeon's instructions. But if you are moving around on a regular basis and taking aspirin I wouldn't bother calling your OS on this. Many surgeons are no longer requiring patients to wear TEDs.

I got rid of mine early too. In my third week if I remember right. I was moving around a lot and on the aspirin. I thought for sure my OS would be critical of that on my 4 week post-op app't but he didn't even notice!

Sounds like you're doing really well!
Those compression socks are miserable old things. It was a very happy day when I could stop wearing them.
I hope you have another beautiful day of weather as you continue on your healing journey.
Hugs :friends:

oooh wish I could ditch the Teds... They told me to wear them for 4 weeks, along with nightly injections as I’ve had previous Dvt/PE.... only another week to go!!!

Absolutely, you should hang in there and wear the ding-danged things until the end of the 4 weeks. It's always better to be on the cautious side as it can lead to a serious problem that you've had before. It sure seems to me that after all of these years, someone would figure out a different/easier design!!!

All the different protocols are so odd. I've had 2 DVT's in my right leg and a PE plus an Aunt that died of a sudden PE and yet only have my old tablets back. I think I was dreading the socks more than the surgery and was beyond happy when told pre-op I wouldn't have them. My "fun" room mate had them but she had fallen and I know with mine 5 years ago, they put the clot down to the trauma of the knee break. Very happy for you that you got the OK to ditch them!
