Well, TennisNut it won't be long now:happydance: :happydance: Meanwhile, may I borrow a couple for my walker? Since you are not using them currently... I realllly don't wanna go all the way to a sporting goods store just for 2 little tennis balls.......

zauberflöte, :heehee: you just gave me a vision, here we go down the grocery isle, shuffling sde by side, our walkers and those stupid tennis balls :friends:

[Bonesmart.org] Baby steps.... Another newbie
TennisNut and zauberflöte, how about a pair of "cool" sneaker glides for those walkers!!! I'm seriously thinking of getting a pair for my hubby since he will always have to use a walker because of balance issues.

Hi zauberflöte, great to hear from you, I'm also getting butterflies.. :) I've been on vacation in Florida trying to to get a suntan and forget about hips, :yikes: wrong place, every second person was walking with either a cane or a walker ..
Anyway, I'm back home, getting rid of lose carpets, getting used to seeing a walker and a commode .... A friend kindly dropped them off..
Went through my final clearances, had my presentation, saw the room.. :heehee: what dd I get myself into!
I am thinking that I might just spend many hours in front of my piano learning some new repertoire, while recovering, I wonder if I'll be able to? Drugs and all.... We will see, any good books you've read lately? What are you doing for pain management the last week?
By the way I actually tried hitting some balls yesterday, good news, there is nothing wrong with my arm or hand :), my legs... Oh well :friends:

TennisNut fancy that-- I'm on vacation right now too! But we went north, not south. Cape Cod. My avatar pic is from last September here.
I'm trying to figure out if I really need to take up the three 3x5 orientals in the entry area. I need something to grab the sand (what passes for soil here....), but these do stick up above the floor. So I guess they go. And the little bedside rugs, and the mat in the bathroom waaahhhhh. Cleaned up a borrowed walker and toidy seat, belonged to my late grandmother-in-law (whose house this was); will take them home with us.
I just spent $80 on new music-- Bach trio sonata transcriptions for flute and hpschd/organ, and ya know? If we can learn it on drugs, we will REALLY know it! Hoping to present my organist friend with all sorts of choices next fall when we play together.
Books. I have a 9" stack of science fiction magazines that I've been saving just for this. Easy to read in small bits-- short fiction. So, for books, I may look for all the Harry Potter, as I haven't read but one of those. And might have to spend a little on either Hulu or add DVD's back in to our Netflix to watch the movies, none of which I've ever seen! What are your book choices?
Wonderful that your tennis arm is still there! My shoulders are wrecked, possibly from decades of "in one position for hours" flute playing, or, possibly from 3-4 spectacular falls I've had over the past 30 years. And my hands are wrecked from all the playing. I never wanted to play tennis anyway :P
What room did you see??? The OR???:yikes: No, the hospital room, right? I get a private room b/c that's all this hospital "franchise' has. I think I will appreciate the halving of noise and vitals-checking :)
Pain management starting next Tuesday (and it WOULD be the day we're driving home!). will be tylenol and tramadol. So obviously I can't take tramadol and drive, so I'm thinking next Tuesday is not going to be very good...

I like to yak. If I yak at you too much please shoo me away LOL okay? :)

Hi zauberflöte, nice to yak with you sis! well, my vacation is over, I have a great suntan coupled with a few extra wrinkles  Oh hell no, I do not want to see the op room, I figure it looks like a carpenters shop! :yikes:
no the hospital room, a nice private room with en suite bathroom and flat screen TV, (i hope they have the French Open), therapy room down the hall, looks very friendly. Oh, I have also gotten the Harry Potter books and I am now on book 6, I have to stop reading as I wanted these for recovering! I was also given a huge Stephen King novel (under the dome) as a gift, it seems to serve as weight training as well - its huge and heavy! I will also be making huge use of the wifi and netflix.... series here I come! I have been investigating into a 'lift chair' with heat and massage capabilities and am seriously thinking of buying one, my furniture at home is overstuffed and huge, the 'sinking' kind.... did you have some kind of 'happy' chair to sit in?
well enough chatting for now, hopping along to get this house hubby friendly :giggle:
safe travels love!

Having surgery same day as you TennisNut! We are both Northeast, 54 yr olds (I'm getting both hips done on the 21st) Thank goodness I found this forum - so helpful! Nice to know I won't be alone in the OR on Tues, I'll post and will follow your progress too! Best of luck 'Hip-Sista'! :friends:

Hi SeaSiren, I'll be looking out for you! Got butterflies yet? I wish you all the best :kittykiss: you're going to be super fast moving with 2 new hips!

SeaSiren yay another May 21 and you're a bilateral, you lucky girl :)
TennisNut our home is furnished in "late left-overs" style. We have never in 33 yrs been able to agree on anything except a Shaker style rocking chair that was supposed to be for rocking babies, but was finished when the second one was 2! LOL. One crastsman style chair 'from the old old farm (as opposed to the old new farm) is moderately comfy on the behind, but not a recliner in sight-- we do agree on that! So, I dunno. Have to nap on the vintage 1991 Ikea couch I guess. My computer chair is not bad, but no naps. Massage and heat sound heavenly-- just go ahead and buy it already!!!! :) :)
Say hey to hubby for me, and thanks for good travel wishes :)

Greetings zauberflöte! So it looks like there will be 3 of us in the forum getting new hips next Tuesday!
Hip-Triplets

OK TennisNut... 6 days and counting! How are you managing your pain? You treat yourself to that fab chair?? I read you have a TENS - as do I... got it very recently due to an auto accident (whiplash - sigh~ just to add insult to injury!) anyway I know the settings for my neck... wow never considered it for my old hips!!! What settings do you suggest and what placement gives you relief?? This may be a great thing to try post-op... :thumb:

Hi SeaSiren and zauberflöte, my sisters in drugs! :mcoffee: I'm struggling to keep my lopsided smile going... My TENS is working overtime and my mood is staying grey... (Pulse width at 80 and pulse rate at 70, mode M - my chiropractor set it). I jiggle pain killers between Tylenol and tramadol but realy girls, for me now, nothing is working! SeaSiren, I don't know how you're coping.... As the pain for me is constantly changing, the placement of the pads are also never the same spot, but mostly on my thigh and the left side of my knee and shin.
My chair gets delivered Friday :dancy: yayy!
zauberflöte, I have downloaded loads of baroque music, I love Bach, chamber music and cello preludes, can you suggest some soothing silver flute music? Maye if I can calm my mind the rest will follow! I have tried to practice some nocturnes but alas I can't sit on the edge of the chair anymore .. :headbang:
What are you girls up to? :friends:

That stinks you're pain is so bad & annoying TennisNut I wish I could send you a virtual magic wand to help give you a bit of a pain-break & get you through to Tuesday! The great news is your deluxe chair arrives tomorrow!!! :dancy: Thanks for checking your settings, I experimented with my TENS last night and right now on legs, hips & lower back... seems to help significantly, but man I really miss the Mobic they made me stop! Just Vicoden & Tylenol till the big day... I hope the beautiful music is helping you... hang in there hip-sista only 4 ish days till no joint pain
