Re: Another small step forwad to reclaiming my life!

Well things r going pretty well
My nerve block was awesome that said when it wore off it went fast!!!!
At the same time My iv also did a quick exit I have very poor veins for ivs so the drug that now escapes med was stopped. So I have had some pain more than I would havens liked as we we got things back on track.
I am on oxycontin 12hr time release and 2 norco every 4 hrs and keeping it iced up.
Looking fwd to see if now that the nerve block has worn off I can meet Pt expectations, If so? I can go home today!!!!!

Re: Another small step forwad to reclaiming my life!

Catherine, you'll certainly find that it's easier to stand and walk without the nerve block. My leg was like a wet noodle with it in.

Re: Another small step forwad to reclaiming my life!

Oh I agree Heidi, I remembered it from my first knee.
I'm doing great
AND I"M HOME!!!!!
feels great to be home.
thursday will be a very relaxing day then I will start up PT on friday.

Re: Another small step forwad to reclaiming my life!

Catherine,

So glad you are HOME. Somehow you just seem to feel and do better at home. At least we all seem to be the most comfortable there..

Re: Another small step forwad to reclaiming my life!

Wow--so glad things are going well and you're HOME!

Re: Another small step forwad to reclaiming my life!

Glad you're home Catherine. Hope you heal quickly!

Re: Another small step forwad to reclaiming my life!

I have a funny to share,
today is post op day 3
while I'm tired and a bit light headed off and on today I'm so pleased w/ how my pain management is going. (and SO glad to be home)
with out even really realizing it I found myself walking from my bedroom to the kitchen with out my walker or crutches...... my knee feels good.
I'm not over doing it I have 2 bosses (my mother :skeptical: and best friend :wink1:) at my house today to make sure of that. :secretaea:

Re: Another small step forwad to reclaiming my life!

Great news all around there! You are home, you feel good, you are getting around well and you have angels watching over you!! :yahoo:

Re: Another small step forwad to reclaiming my life!

Wow, Catherine....that's not really a "funny" story...it's a GREAT one!!!! It sounds like you are doing really well.

thank you all so much.
I think if my "bosses" saw me walking in the house w/o my crutches I would have been big time busted and sent to my room :th_heehee:

My Doc said something interesting to my mom and friend after my surgery and to me also. (although my memory is fuzzy) He said that he thinks I had some sort of congenital defect w/ my knees. The meniscus I had was extremely brittle more typical of someone in their 90s and that my joint was extremely lax.

Pretty much all my doc does is Hip and knee replacements. And that my knees were puzzling to him. He said he thinks I was doomed from the start to have my knees fail.

in an odd way this makes me feel some what better?? that the problems I had were REAL, not just me being a sissy.

Re: Another small step forwad to reclaiming my life!

Fantastic news, Catherine! You're home and doing great.:yes 4: Of course you weren't a "sissy"! These painful knees are very real but now you are on the way to putting all that behind you.

I know what you mean! My knee problems started with a congenital defect that led to them removing the meniscus when I was seven. Made things good when I was a child, but led to problems now. Somehow there is less of those nagging thoughts at that back of your mind that maybe if you had done something differently or better then you wouldn't have a problem.

Re: Another small step forwad to reclaiming my life!

Well, good for you! There is nothing wrong with getting ahead of the game so long as you don't make too much of a habit of it! :wink1:

YES.... while I know I injured my knee in college that resulted in 5 surgeries the last being my LTKR. It has been a mental frustration that my right knee went down hill SO FAST. I felt that some of this was My fault as I became less and less active and gained weight, so of course my knees would get bad. making the connection that "because I didn't take care of my weight issues I caused my knee problems.......

But then this week my mom reminded me that when I was in High school? or Jr High I had trouble with my knees THEN (I had forgotten) the words they used then was "growing pains" of some sort....
anyway.. some how I feel better knowing that some of what happened to my knees was out of my control...... it was not all "my fault".

Re: Another small step forwad to reclaiming my life!

Back in the 50s and 60s, the diagnosis of "growing pains" blighted the hips and knees of many adolescents for the rest of their lives!

Re: Another small step forwad to reclaiming my life!

It's terrible how, when we have pain that doesn't have an obvious, visual cause, our first response is that people are going to think it is in our head, that we are hypochondriacs, or that we are crazy. I've been unfortunate enough to have some problems that have been very difficult to diagnose and treat, yet have been disabling enough to put my life on hold. It's been extremely frustrating.
