Re: Another small step forwad to reclaiming my life!

thoughts
it has now been 10 days since my steroid injections. My right knee has gone from ranging 3-4 normally and as bad as 6-7 on the pain scale like after I have gone for the walk or taken the dogs for a run to 2-3 normally to maybe a 4-5 on the pain scale.
I'm still thinking I should go ahead with the Euflexxa injections. I can't think of a reason not to?
thanks for any thoughts.

Re: Another small step forwad to reclaiming my life!

It's probably worth a try.

Re: Another small step forwad to reclaiming my life!

Update
I have now passed the 5 month mark on my left knee, it is so awesome! I rarely ever think about it. It was smooth sailing through a 3 day dog show and I could RUN on grass! (not always even). a few aches and pains from over doing it but it bounced back pretty quick.

re the right knee, I hit about the peak of "goodness" about 2 weeks after my steroid injection, it lasted about 2 weeks now I'm back to where I started prior to the injection June 3rd.

I have my first Euflexxa injection on the 13th, it is part of the process I need to in order to be cleared for TKR.

I just finished 4 days of working as a substitute for my old job (was laid off effective June 30th) and I have 4 days next week. I will then file for unemployment. I'm happy for the chance to work, sort of frustrating that they get me for "1/2 price" of my normal rate lol oh well, as my dad would have said, better than a kick in the can, and I agree!

my health ins is good through the end of July and then I will take out a cobra. I'm max out of pocket for my medical coverage so if I have my TKR prior to Oct 1st my only expense will be co-pays. (good deal). so we shall see!

I hope everyone is having a great summer.

Re: Another small step forwad to reclaiming my life!

Catherine, that's great news about your TKR knee. Here's hoping the other one can get repaired within your time frame. Keep pushin' to be sure that happens!!!

Re: Another small step forwad to reclaiming my life!

Happy to hear things with the TKR are going well. And I hope that things go the way you want with the other one. Running with the dogs must have been a fantastic feeling!!! AND! I hope you can find a better job than theone you were pushed from. Having been unemployed myself I really understand the frustration.

Re: Another small step forwad to reclaiming my life!

you guys are the best to support me!
My left knee continues to be a rock star! I'm coming up on the 6 month mark w/in the week!
I have lots of news
on the 13th I had my first Euflexxa injection (ouch) on my right knee, although not as painful as the steroid injection! - I was pretty sore after the injection, the next one is on the 20th.
THEN the amazing news, the morning of the 14th (I was still subbing at work) my Boss called me in..... I WAS recalled to my job!!!!! Things are still really unstable, but today was my FIRST day back at work as "me" not a sub lol. I will take what I can get for some stable work as long as it lasts.
thanks again!

Great news

Whooooo hoooo, Catherine!!!! Now THAT IS good news!!!

Re: Another small step forwad to reclaiming my life!

today is a HUGE day for me
today is 6 months since my LTKR
I LOVE it, it works great, my recovery while not easy has been easier than I expected.
So this weekend I went on 2 - 2 1/2 mile hikes not hard but "off" road.
my left knee did great, my Right horrible.. That gave me the info I need to call and schedule my RTKR for September.
wow, I'm still amazed at how well my new knee works? I wish I could express to all the "new" people who are counting the "weeks" from your surgery how things will just keep getting better!
thanks for all the support these past months, I have learned a lot from this board.

Oh Catherine, what a wonderful adventure for your 6 month anniversary! Your new knee must have been on cloud9. Thank you for sharing your special day with us.

Re: Another small step forwad to reclaiming my life!

It has been awhile since I posted on my thread. My left knee continues to do really really well.
I spent 2 days at Disneyland this weekend using 1 crutch for my RIGHT knee.
My left knee held up GREAT over the hours and hours of standing and walking and going on rides! It was a GOOD THING I had the crutch to help my right knee all it took was 1/2 hour walking around WITH that crutch to be in serious pain. It took Hydrocodone at pretty much my max dose to get through the weekend.

So today I am looking out 3 weeks until my RTKR!!!! and I think really giving it a work out has been a GOOD THING to REMIND me why I'm having my 2nd tkr much sooner than I ever expected. You see my right knee does not give me "much" issue if I don't DO ANYTHING lol but now a simple 30 min walk will cause MAJOR pain.
Anyway, I thought I might wake up this thread, posting that my Left knee is still a total rock star and doing that LTKR has been one of the BEST things I have ever done for my mental and physical health!

Re: Another small step forwad to reclaiming my life!

I'm pretty much in the same place as you, new knee in October and am just feeling great about my first new knee, although it's taken a while to feel that way! Hopefully by next Spring we will both be skipping along! My other knee is same as yours, doesn't bother me if I don't do anything but screams loudly if I walk more than 5 minutes. Good luck with your surgery, keep us posted:biggrin:

Re: Another small step forwad to reclaiming my life!

Good idea to get this thread going again with a positive report. We'll ignore the bad behavior of your other knee as it will not be doing that to you much longer.

Re: Another small step forwad to reclaiming my life!

"the BEST things I have ever done for my mental and physical health! "

You're so right about the mental side of this, I feel so much more positive about everything now, you just don't realise how constant pain drags you down and you just get used to it - life shouldn't be like that! I even feel like studying again now, to do an English teaching course, something I could never have contemplated before my new knee.

:thumb: I couldn't agree more!

Thank you for your post and for reminding us what living is all about. A successful new knee makes all the difference in the world in terms of quality of life.

Re: Another small step forwad to reclaiming my life!

WEIRD day
for the YEARS after my ACL reconstruction in 1988 pretty much off an on all these years since I had reoccurring what I attributed to deep bone pain where I had a screw in my tibia. It was breath catching deep profound pain, it would pulse or pound then with no real reason go away.
Well today for the first time I experienced this type of pain related to my TKR. To be honest it was very surprising! I hope I'm done with this little flare up for now! this is the first time my TKR has really given my any issues in months and months.

Re: Another small step forwad to reclaiming my life!

You have an xray of your knew knee you can post for me?

Re: Another small step forwad to reclaiming my life!

No I don't have a picture,
I will see about taking some next week (my pre op appt for my R knee)
I don't have a fancy phone, so will take my camera. After about a dozen or so rounds of that pound pain on friday, just 2x today and not as bad.
I wonder if doc can give me a digital copy? how do others get their digital copy's they post?
