thanks!!!
I now have 2 new pairs of shoes!!!! both felt great and I'm just going to wear these 2 shoes the next few weeks and see how I'm doing.
BLESS Portland Running Company, they did an awesome job fitting me with shoes today!
feeling good crossing my fingers that things will continue to go well and that I'm on the right track!

Catherine,
How are things going for you now that you've had your new shoes for a couple of days? Are they helping? Thinking of you as "our anniversary" approaches in a few days! :snork:
Niki

thank you both!
I think YES
I also saw my PT on Monday he did a good evaluation, agrees with EVERYONE else on right leg longer (1/2")
He was SUPER pleased with my left leg strength.
Not as happy with my right leg strength all around but felt some of my quad weakness was part of the issue - so I'm back to work on leg work at home.
he also said I need to stretch my quads, hams, it bands and calfs.

I get another massage today! (yes!! and OUCH!!!)

the shoes are great I have had 2 walks (other than normal life) since I got them and I have pain in new places LOL but I think it is the change in how I'm walking nothing that alarms me but different muscles etc that are working. I'm not pushing it. I'm also thinking about standing on BOTH my legs when I'm standing around (was taking weight off my right). My kneecap seems happier? like it is tracking better and I'm no longer pointing my left toe to out (to about 1 on the clock face if "noon" was straight ahead) when I walk.

thanks! yes we are coming up to 5 months!!!!

My PT (Kyle) thinks I should be seeing improvement in the next 6-8 weeks.

Carousel, I just got back from the vet's and had to share this with you. Our sheriff acquired a female mali as the drug detection dog and she is SO SWEET and quite the social butterfly. :doggieshmooze: It kind of surprised me as I figured she is a "hard" girl and would only want to socialize with just her dad. Turns out her bite work is over the top and she is more focused than the males but can really turn on the charm. She was so regal, so sleek~a little brown ferrari that is a total love sponge. It was all I could do to not slip her out the door with my sable gsd girl for a play date. She does travel down our road and back into the woods to pay the druggies a visit so maybe the next time she drives by, she'll honk and wave.

I was thinking today... when I was leaving the house to go visit friends at a local dog show. The many ways we measure progress in our recovery. For the last 3,4,5 yrs? I NEVER would have considered going to a show w/o taking my own camp chair to sit in so I would never have to worry about finding a place to sit down. Today as I got in the car I thought??? chair? no I don't need one!
And I walked around, and stood around at the show for about 2 1/2 hours before a friend and I went to lunch then back to walk around another hour. I did FINE. In fact never sat down, or did I think I needed to?
so HEAR me! lol this is measurable progress!
My Right knee turned 5 months old on Saturday meaning Niki's turned 5 months old today!
I feel like I'm continuing to make progress with the new shoes and lift in my left shoe. I KNOW I'm on the right track.
My Left knee now 13 months old is just stellar! it is STILL amazing to me how great it feels!!!!!

How nice to hear about your success. Great for us following behind...Thanks !:ThankYou:

Now THAT'S a post that brings a big smile to my face!!! Wonderful!

I have another update and a few thoughts.
when I think about life prior to my LTKR it is hard for me to remember just how debilitating the pain was, I'm sort of glad I can't remember.
so what I notice like with my last post is that I'm doing "normal" things with out thinking about them? some I have not done for YEARS. Today I took the dogs to a rather WET (ah wetland) off lead area. They had a BLAST running, through the muck... ick! but I NEVER ONCE thought about my footing!!!
then when I came home I gave all 3 dogs a bath,, again? I didn't really think "will I be able to do this?" I just did it. First time I have bathed the dogs in the bathtub at home in about 3 yrs.
we are all happy, the dogs are tired AND clean!

again, small steps!

Catherine! I am just thrilled to hear how well you are doing! I have not yet attempted to give my grandbabies a bath in the bathtub since my TKR--but if you can bathe three dogs in the tub maybe it's time for me to try giving these babies a bath! I have only recently started babysitting again because I just didn't feel sure-footed or strong enough on the stairs until now to be carrying a 15-month-old up and down. Like you say--small steps, but progress nonetheless!
Niki

I didn't "kneel" on my knees, I still can't do that on my right, and slowly getting there on my left.
but I managed anyway - my smallest dog is 25# and about 17" at her shoulder and my biggest dog is 65# and 25" at his shoulder. He was the easiest, he is such a good boy. I did use my shower bench lol part in and part out and that helped.
I just want to get to the point that I'm not "tired"
I still think my endurance has a long way to go to get to what I consider is "normal".
VERY tired tonight.

Catherine, that's a wonderfully inspiring update! Thanks for sharing it with us.

Isn't that the BEST feeling? You are doing so well!! I still remember when you walked the 5K not long after your TKA. You are an inspiration to me! :thumb:

Sunflower you are very sweet.
thank you...
I'm signed up to walk that 5K I walked last year (11 weeks post op) again this year! (April 7th) - Santa Anita derby day 5k

I'm getting there with the right knee, I'm on track. still sore but this too will pass.

That is a great update Catherine - I too haven't been able to bend down and bathe my dog for a good few years now. Reading your update made me think I'll shall be able to do this again - great :yes 4::doggieshmooze:
