Can you hear me now???? Okay this post is flat out total celebration - I AM getting better here is how I know how.
if is as much of what I AM doing as what I'm NOT doing.
I have had some good days the past few weeks, doing things I thought were "normal" things that I have not done in a decade... Here is MORE on that theme.
While in the past year I have walked 2, 5K walks I was needing to ice one or both of my knees and or take pain meds (narcotic pain meds) to either "get through" the walk or recover the days after.
Same for flying,, I have traveled by plane I think 4 or 5 times in the last 18 months. But never with out narcotic pain meds...
SO.... let me tell you about this past weekend.........
Thursday night after a full day of work I made a 2 hour flight down to CA - NO pain meds in fact no anti inflammatory meds and you know what? I felt FINE.
friday went for a 2 mile walk in SUNNY CA - felt GREAT. NO pain meds might have taken some anti anflams but no big deal.
This takes me to SATURDAY AM - 5 K walk at Santa Anita!!! as we drove down to the walk I considered taking 1/2 a Vicodin... and decided I really didn't need it? but just 10 weeks ago I never would have considered it.
After the walk I decided to take 1/2 a tablet. Mostly because I still had a day at the races ahead of me, a lot of sitting and walking up and down stairs. And you know what? I DID FINE... I really don't think I needed the 1/2 of a pill. And I also wondered if after that REALLY long day of miles and miles of walking and sitting I would need a tablet to sleep well. NOPE didn't take it and DIDN'T need it.
MONDAY -- a HUGE day planned at Disneyland!!!
this was a big first. first time since my 20s
NO Crutches, No Cane, NO PAIN MEDS.

and it was a HUGE day at Disney - we walked around or stood in line for about 10 1/2 hours - sat down for about 30 min at lunch but THAT is it!!!!
and you know what? end of the day and last night??? I FELT GREAT!!! NO PAIN MEDS
Flight home this morning? SCARY - a person who took A GOOD DEAL MORE OF HIS SEAT left me cramped and angry for my flight home but you know what? MY KNEES DIDN'T HURT!!!!!
So, am I perfect? NOPE not yet. I still have tight hamstrings, tight IT bands etc but I'm working on it!
so what is interesting, HUGE difference for me with "this" 2nd knee between 4 and 6 months post op!
My most amazing Left knee is 14 1/2 months out is just a rock star it feels so good.
My 2nd knee, the Right knee is 6 1/2 months old and it is doing just super!
