Revision THR Another Second Chance

Ahhhhhh. Had a shower yesterday evening. [emoji371]That felt really nice! Only one more checklist item to mark off, [emoji3474][emoji372] They pumped me so full of Oxy at the hospital I feel like I’m backed up for miles.

Speaking of miles. Wife and 15 year old son are departing on an 8 hour drive in a few hours. He is playing in a basketball tournament in Omaha, Nebraska! That leaves me at home with my 12 year old daughter for 3 days! Only 3 days removed from surgery.

She will be taking the day off from school to care for daddy [emoji3590]
My sis-in-law lives 5 miles away, she has been an ER and most recently a day surgery nurse for 35 years! I’ll be in good hands. My daughter has a volleyball tournament all day Sunday! Luckily it is in town so I may try to get over to watch one match! [emoji968]

So far, everything is going to plan! Still on 100mg Tramadol with 500 mg Tylenol every 6 hours. Feels really good this morning, I may cut the Tramadol in half next dose at 1000 hours. Just saying in the recliner with ice and compression! Have the neatest machine that does both ice water through a pad that is wrapped around my hip AND compression wraps on both calves! I love it.

I hope all gets going soon...
Was definitely an issue for me too.
Mother's suggestion was to sit with magazine and relax.:umm:
Yeah, right? On hard toilet riser with two freshly sawed femer...um, nope.
And I couldn't stomach prune juice, even masked.
Lots of stool softeners and a vegetable laxative finally provided relief on day four or five.
Thank goodness!
I was miserable.
Pumpkin puree seems to be touted among many members.
Glad you have a helper and I bet she doesn't mind a day off from school.

I did some Milk of Magnesia last night, a shot of miralax this morning. I’ve been eating apricots a since I woke up in the hospital. [emoji1694][emoji477]️

Is that freedom from constipation?
Or that your boss (better half) left for the weekend?
Or that the horrid pre-op pain is gone?
Whichever....glad you're free!
Your doing great, enjoy the weekend!

Actually all except the boss leaving. To be honest, I’m not even in much post-op pain. Just a nice ache. Seriously. Thinking of starting to spread out med times.
It will be a glorious weekend, thanks!

T plus 4 days.

Pain- 2/10, taking 100mg Tramadol and 500 Tylenol every 6 hours.

Swelling- not too bad. Starting to get a good bit of purple. Had to add a pillow last night and that has made a big change. My nose wasn’t quite above my nose!

Mental state- bored already. I’ve been stuck in the recliner the majority of the time since I got home.

Physical state- A few trips around the house. Might take a walk outside today. I have to remind myself 50% weight bearing with every step! I feel like I could walk without the walker already. That walker and 50% seems to be messing my gait a bit. The gait was obviously bad pre-op most of the time.

Diet- normal

The London Marathon is today. I was a runner before the first hip 6 years ago. The big international race days are always a reminder of what I can’t do any longer [emoji3525] I can’t wait to get on my bike!

You're doing so well!
I do worry though once given the green light you'll be petal to the metal.
Would hate to see you suffer a set-back.
I said something to my (then 80 yr old) mother after I had my THR about never being able to do a particular something again. She reminded me that life holds a series of "can't do that anymore's" and if you think about it, it's true, I can't do a lot of what my adult children can do. There's even more my grandchildren can do that if I tried I'd hurt myself. It's a part of life, part of wear and tear on an aging body. But at 53, you're as young as you'll ever be and life holds much adventure for you. You may have to adjust the way you do certain things, or replace the things you can no longer do with a new interest. Whatever it takes, I have confidence you'll embrace it and do well.
Happy Saturday!

@Layla, your Mother was a wise woman! But it is so true, especially about the running, well at least for me it's that. I still pine for it. If it were "just" the hips I might attempt some light jogs but the old fractures in my spine deny me even the thoughts of it! I'm like an old race horse hearing the bugle, though. So @inthebeginning- I feel your longing, too. Your pain levels sound well controlled.. good job! I was up most of the night with pain,, can't wait to be on the other side as a double hippy. P.S. I bet a walk outside will be just the thing for you today! My son lives in Co Sporings and he told me that the weather is nice there all weekend.. enjoy!

@Layla Thanks! I do feel like this time is very different than the last. Since this isn’t my first time doing this, I do know that life will not be the same. I do know that recovery is a marathon and I still remember everything I learned from BS last time!
However, I don’t plan on having to adjust too much of my activity once I am healed. I made those adjustments 5.5 years ago and was completely happy with them.
Yes, we’re not getting any younger but I will try to keep up with the kids like any other normal 53 year old with two teenangers!

@CricketHip Yes! The weather has been and is supposed to be absolutely beautiful today. My favorite half marathon I used to run was 2 weeks ago. Always a tough week for me. That was the last race before I found out I needed the hip in the first place.

The Cherry Creek Sneak is this Sunday. It is one of the biggest races in the country. There’s a 10 and 5 mile race as well as a 5k. My dad and sister used to come out and run it with my family. Dad hasn’t been a runner back when it was ‘jogging’. He ran NYC and Marine Corps marathons and countless half’s and tons of 5, 10 and 15k’s. He was 85 the last time he came out to Denver for the Sneak. He was actually wearing his 1984 NYC Marathon jacket! People were cheering him on almost every step of the way. He was already fighting Parkinson’s, so it was quite the process but I will never forget that day!

He was the reason I took up running after my heart attack in the first place. So when the hip became an issue and I had never run a full marathon, that is why I felt I had to do the marathon distance on the elliptical last time. Now that I’m more of a cyclist, what better than a century ride? (100 miles)

@SE Florida Thanks! Those yellow socks are getting a little dingy the more steps I take! Just wheeled out front to see my baby head out to volleyball practice. I am alone in the house for a couple hours with the dogs. They’ve been wonderful and are a little skittish around the walker, so I’m protected with it!

Feeling really good this morning! Cut my Tramadol in half. I was taking 100mg and 500mg Tylenol every 6 hours.
Just took 50mg Tramadol and the Tylenol at 1000 hours. Will keep you posted!
