Revision THR Another Second Chance

I attribute a lot to surgeons, @59billy . But I'm sure everyone here had as much confidence in their doctor as I did. So yes, skill, expectations, attitude all play a part. But some things are simply beyond our control. And that's where luck comes in to play, I guess.

Attitude is everything- though mine has been awful, along with my recovery, I at least now KNOW I'm going to make it.
Hugs,
Think back to your first hip back in ‘05. How did recovery go back then?
I based my approach for this revision on what I remembered from the last one in’13. That’s all
I knew. I understood that revisions take a bit longer to come back from. I didn’t understand exactly what that was going but to look like as the date approached. Once I woke up and got all the info from PT and OT, I could build my plan. Then at the 2 week post-op, I was advised to step it back a bit. I’m doing the best I can!

Maybe as @59billy said, there was some luck involved. If so, then I’m one lucky person...so far anyway.

I was lucky to get a skillful surgeon!

I say that flippantly, but I just went with the flow and ended up with a spectacular surgical team.

Back to business...

It’s 0800, I have already driven the 10th grader to school. I have dragged the trash and recycle cans to the curb. Getting ready to drive the 6th grader to the bus stop as it is still snowing!

Speaking of the snow, I think this current weather system is causing a little extra something in the hip. Haven’t taken anything since yesterday morning.....24 hours no meds at all! Because of this I forgot my last belly shot yesterday! Just finished the Lovenox this morning! Yay!

Congrats on ending those shots - ick, I hate lovenox!
Are you suggesting that the snow is a GOOD thing? We have rainy rainy rainy weather and it's making my ache - or at least grumpy enough that it's making me THINK that I ache!

@JennyLynne As far as the snow goes, it’s a good thing because I’m not mowing the lawn today! I do think it’s adding a little ache in the hip for sure.

It sounds like you've got all three! Genetics plays its' role too. My mother had both hips replaced when she was in her 70's...osteoarthritis...thanks mom!

@Newbie tkr
Hadn’t thought of that! My mom had arthritis as well although never had anything replaced.
It really is all up to how you approach the process from that first visit with the OS all the way through PT and on...

My mom and grandmother both had OA but no hip problems. But they both had knee replacements and I'm hoping those genetics don't kick in my way with that, I'm good with 2 new hips. No knees please! @inthebeginning it sounds like the gym visit went well today........hope you're doing ok with that, at least it should've helped with the boredom! :ice:

I don't have many family members on my mother's side who haven't had knees and hips replaced. A good few in their 30's too. 3 of my kids have arthritis, 2 of them already into some heavy treatment. A 35 year old son who will likely need one knee done before he turns 40 but denies it because he's a firefighter and worries about long term recovery. A 28 year old daughter already on Biologics for RA but has to go off soon to conceive her second baby. Arthritis is a horrible disease!!

I am the first in my family to have a joint replaced due to OA. My grandmother had arthritis but it never got so bad. I don't believe anyone else had the dysplasia either.

To say this runs in my family is an understatement... my grandmother had 2 knees and 2 hips replaced before 60, my dad all before 55... and I’m well on my way to beat them all. Not a race I wanted to win, but hey
