THR 6 weeks and feeling GOOD

Wishing you a peaceful night also. Thankyou for your help

 You're welcome!

Well today is day 12 post op. I am starting to use the cane around the house for good part of the day. However I have terrible groin pain mostly at night. I use ice and elevate religiously is this common ? Also how can I get comfortable at night. I am only sleeping at the most 3 hours straight? I am a side sleeper.Desperately need sleep.

-i @Yokesgirl .....sorry you're struggling with the sleep thing, most people do, and it's something that gets better with time. I've just come off 12 weeks of restrictions, including the dreaded back sleeping, and it took me a while to work out how to get reasonably comfortable. My pillow arrangement of choice is a wedge (or several pillows) with one one pillow in normal position at the head end, and 2 pillows horizontally under my thighs/knee/upper calf (in effect my upper body and legs were sloped and my bum in the bottom of the 'valley' ) This meant my lower back was supported, and the backs of my heels were off the bed (I was getting sore heels from pressure). This helped me to get some fairly good sleep, after a little practice. Also make sure you're taking your pain meds if you need them, as that can keep you awake, and resign yourself to having nana naps during the day until you sleep well at night. I also take a Magnesium capsule at bedtime as it is supposed to support sleep.....don't know if it actually makes a difference but as long as I think it does.....

I really hated the thought of back sleeping, was always on my side, but now I'm used to it, especially after 3 mths, I think I will have to train myself to go back on my side again, so you may get to tolerate it too, once you find what works for you :)

@Jaycey I am takin Oxycodone 10 mg every 4-6 hours during the day I take 5 mg and 1 tylenol.

@Jaycey I take the full dose in the morning and full dose at night. During the day I take 5mg and a tylenol. I hate the way the pills make me feel. I guess I have to adapt to them. When was your surgery? ☺

Awwwwww,
I'm sorry you're having issues w/sleeping and pain! I still sleep on my back and side (non operated side) w/2 (that's two pillows) supporting my operated leg!

I told my surgeon a certain type of drug didn't work for me (made me "loopie")...maybe the one he has prescribed for you doesn't agree w/you as well.

My heart goes out to you and I'm sending you beautiful peaceful positive healing vibes tonight ~
Big Hugs

Thank you. Hopefully tonight I will sleep, I just took my meds and laying with ice. I did finally get to visit my mom today, she is in a assited living facility. That was very good therapy for me. I cried like a baby when I seen her, I am used to visiting her 4 times a week. All I know I have to get through this many people in my life depend on me . My husband since his massive coronary in October has many restrictions, however he is doing so much more know since I am down. My nerves have the best of me. I am a worrier to begin with. Thanks again for your support.

Oh my sweet,
My heart is heavy and for you as you need to take care of everyone....but you need to take care of yourself right now! Listen to the Avett Brothers song..."I have not enemies"....it's such a healing song, makes me cry every time I hear it and puts everything into perspective ~ you're sooo strong but you need to heal and take care of yourself right now!
I'm sending you lots of Love and Big Big Hugs~

Gracious...you have had alot on your plate...
Can't be much help to or loved ones is we don't take care of ourselves...I'm sure you know.
I'm glad you were able to visit your mother! I'm sure she has been worried for you too..
Things will continue to get Better AND Better!
Super early days.
Hope today is a Good Day!

I'm so sorry you're under such pressure to get better! Are there any resources you can bring to bear to take some pressure off? Children? Friends? Somebody who can help you and your family while you focus on healing? Please focus on things that bring you joy - your mom, your relationships, music, whatever it takes.

About sleeping: I hated Oxycodone, and I always woke up in the middle of the night, loopy and hurting, and had to take another one. Plus, who likes sleeping on their backs all the time?!? Arghhh! So I'd sleep in shifts - when I woke up at night, rather than worry about not being able to sleep, I'd sit up and read the posts here until my eyes got tired. Back to sleep for a few hours, then do something else. Rinse and repeat. I managed to sleep enough thru catnaps to keep up, and I didn't make myself crazy worrying about insomnia.

That's exactly how I did it!
Sometimes we fake it until we make it, right?
Hope today is a Good Day.

@Bone-obo Good Morning I do have a daughter who helps with housework, once or twice a week however she is a nurse full time and my grandson is 3 so she helps with what she can. I am so used to babysitting him also 2-3 days a week on top of everything else. My friends are a blessing for support also but they also lead busy lives. Thats why I am so happy I found this group☺it has helped alot. I actually slept 7 hours straight last night due to all the advice I feceived from here. I went 9 hours without a pain pill. WOOHOO. How are you feeling?

Hi @Yokesgirl
I agree with many of the others suggestions. Please try to relax, sweetie.
You just went through major surgery two weeks ago. You can't be preoccupied with others right now. You need to heal, yourself. If not, you'll be no good to others.

Take this time to rest, sleep, and relax. TRY not the let the cares and problems of others burden you, just for now. Concentrate on your recovery.

Do all you can to make your recovery smooth. Get your meds right, sleep when you're able, day or night. Ice, eat healthy and take a few walks around the house during the day. That's all you need to be doing this early into recovery.

Are you able to talk to your mom on the phone daily, or every couple days, for a few weeks, until you're stronger? Consider that. Also, let your hubby take care of YOU right now. I'm sure you took care of him when he was going through his health crisis. Let him return the favor without feeling guilty about it. Maybe it makes him feel good to be the caregiver for a change.

Find things to do to occupy your mind so you don't get into negative unproductive thinking. Come here for support. Many caring people here to encourage and cheer you. Go to Bone-obo's thread and look at a stupid video I posted. If it doesn't make you laugh, I'll send the ambulance for you, lol.

You're going to be fine. Just give it a little more time. You'll be surprised at how different you feel as you regain strength and mobility. I hope today is a good day!
Big hugs!
