Revision TKR Would like advice please, I think knee has moved

The photos are, as they say, "interesting". I think I'd find it more helpful if you took some front and back standing.

Photos at last, they aren't very good ones. @Josephine are they OK. Did you want a heel raise on my right leg to compensate for the leg length difference?

[Bonesmart.org] Would like advice please, I think knee has moved

That's strange - in the left hand photo you appear to have a valgus (knocked knee) deformity but in the right hand view you don't. Though looking at the heels, there does appear to be a leg length differential in the rear view.

Thanks Josephine, I just don't know what is happening. My foot is agony at the moment. I usually stand with my left leg in front of my right at an angle as I find it more comfortable like that, not in a straight line. I guess I will have to wait and see the consultant and gait analysis as the podiatrist is unwilling to try anything else before then. She had me stand on a special glass plate with a light underneath it. You could see that the inner side of my foot doesn't touch the glass.

The problem gets worse when I bend my knee. I am struggling on the excerise bike putting my foot into the stirrup. Otherwise I have 95/0 ROM which is better than the consultant anticipated.

BusyLizzie,
Looks like you are walking on the outside of your foot to bring your knee over the middle of your foot. That is why a lateral wedge will not work, it would just put your knee more to the inside of your foot.
The gait analysis will help to determine what will help you the most to better align your foot and knee while you are walking.

Great news about the ROM!

Thanks @Pumpkln, today isn't a good day. The pain has been getting a lot worse this last few days. I was in tears today, I'm struggling to walk even using my crutches and very little weight on my left leg. I've even resorted to swinging through some of the time. The pain gets to about a seven at times. It feels just like a twisted ankle combined with pain all along the outside of my foot with the plantar fasciitis pain under my foot as well. Painkillers do nothing for it. Ice doesn't really help. In bed I get some relief lying on my tummy and dangling my feet over the end of the bed. I've physio in the morning that should be fun! Why does everything take so long to sort in the UK. I've just over 2 weeks before I see the consultant and another week after that for the initial appointment for gait analysis. I think they do an assessment appointment first.

@busylizzie
My wish is that you have a better day today and that your pain is decreased.
Thanking of you with warm thoughts,
Cathie

@marmora, you wish as helped. Today has been better. I'm still in pain but I am managing better. At physio this morning I managed 100 flexion. Great news. She spent most of the session massaging a tight area behind the inside of my left knee. She said it was scar tissue. It was sore to start with but the more she massaged the more the pain disappeared. I think that the massage contributed to the increased ROM.

I have to continue stretching, strengthening and flexing my leg without weight bearing. Keep using my crutches but not swinging through as that will increase pain in other parts of my body. Also try and keep my knee in alignment ignoring my foot and just hang on until the gait analysis.

I went out to an out of town store after physio and used my scooter to get around. I think it has done me good and lifted my spirit. I also went to a craft centre to replenish my stash. Then we had drive in the car and a meal out. Just hope I havent joined ODIC today

@busylizzie

Great improvement for your day today.
Upward & onward

Cathie
(But, also be prepared for a few steps back along the way - it happens to all of us )

Great report on your ROM. Glad to hear you were able to get out for an outing and some shopping!
Take care of your knee and head off the ODIC.

I have semi joined the ODIC today. My wrists hurt from using the crutches so much recently, not a new thing, this has been going on a few years now. The fix is either surgery or stop using crutches, neither is a goer at the moment. My fibromyalgia has been getting worse again recently. I normally do gentle exercise to keep it under control and pace myself. My whole body seems to be objecting to this misalignment. Well I have decided to rest today and see what tomorrow brings. I must get my positive attitude back as it is the only way forward. I have a life to live. As I am now certainly beats the 27 weeks I spent in the immobiliser without a knee.

Thank you all for your support, it certainly helps.

I have just noticed that my signature has been modified and was wondering why?

@busylizzie

Yes, even the semi-ODIC is a hard one to be a member of.
Rest, ice and elevate today seems to be what you need to do.

Hoping for the best for you in your recovery,
Cathie

I am really struggling at the moment. My fibromyalgia has kicked in big style. It hurts to type, hence I've been reading posts but not posting much. It is affecting my whole body. My foot is really troublesome and now my whole leg is affected including my knee. The only way I get some relief is wearing my trainers for support and elevating. This is OK in the day but not at night. My sleeping is haywire, hit and miss. I have been dismissed from the hospital physio as I have reached their criteria for ROM. I have an appointment with my surgeon next Wednesday and by the comments that have been made he is my way forward. I have gait analysis the week after. This road is never ending. Just as I think the worst is over, it starts again. Thank goodness I have my scooter to get around. I have been told to restrict the walking and use my crutches.

Sorry about the moan, but I'm very frustrated at the mo.

Hello @busylizzie

Your recovery road has not been a pleasant journey for you. It has been filled with many obstacles and challenges. You must be worn out by all of this and the elusive sleep that seems to add to the situation.

It is good that you have BoneSmart where you can express all that you feel and know that there are people here who will understand and support you.

Best wishes for your Surgeon appointment next Wednesday.

Take care,
Cathie

Thanks, I had a sleeping tablet last night and although I still woke a few times I had a better night. Just putting my foot on the floor this morning has triggered increased pain again. Back to the elevation and resting for yet another day!
