Hi @busylizzie I'm so sorry to read that you're in pain. You don't deserve this. You have supported me and so many others on this site. I'm joining you with the elevation and resting. I hope that your OS comes up with some answers for you I really do.

I will pop In now and again, to check on you and see how you're doing. Don't worry about replying while your fingers are so uncomfortable. That's fine by me. Just take it easy knowing that we all care for you so much and that you're not alone. :elevate: Catch you later... X x x x

Big but very gentle hugs

I am still struggling with the fibromyalgia and foot/ knee pain. I'm not very mobile at the moment. Still only 3 days now before I see my consultant. I just hope he has some answers. I seem to have swapped one problem for another. I think my knee would be fine if I didn't have this misalignment problem. The initial gait analysis appointment is in 9 days. I don't think it is going to be easy to fix other than with more surgery. I seem to be more tearful at the moment, I think it is a combination of pain and frustration and not knowing the way forward. I am trying to be positive but it is very hard.

I was out on my scooter on Friday and a waiter in a shop cafe bumped into my bad leg. I was stationary at the time ordering some food at the counter. He just didn't look where he was going. I'm OK now but it hurt at the time.

@busylizzie

Sending warm wishes from my heart to your heart.

Nothing more than I can say, only that your are in my thoughts and have my wishes for a comfortable Sunday.

Take care,
Cathie

Hi @busylizzie, poor you, having someone bump into your leg, while you are on a scooter for goodness sake! The waiter sounds like something from Fawlty Towers! What a clumsy great oaf! I hope that he had the decency to apologise to you. You could have done without that happening on top of everything else.

I'm glad your OS appointment is soon, you will hopefully get some answers that will help you get through all this. I hadn't realised you had got misalignment I missed that somehow and I'm really sorry about it.

Anytime you want to chat just tag me. Even if it's the early hrs of the morning it doesn't matter. I'm usually around at all sorts of mad hours at the moment because I'm back to catnapping again since this revision.

I can understand your tears of frustration, you've had four solid years of this and that is more than most could stand. You cannot go forward until you've seen these upcoming specialists/consultants. Obviously you know this with out the likes of me telling you. You need all the advice and then you can make a decision, that I am sure that once you are furnished with all the details, will certainly take you forward to a more mobile lifestyle. Everything needs bringing back under control with the right meds and advice.

Bless you Busylizzie. You're always so supportive of everyone you chat to. Now it's your turn for some support. You know where I am anytime. I hate to think if you sitting up in the wee small hours or any other time in pain and crying,

Please take care
All my love from Nana moon 27 xox big hugs

Thanks. I have just had a long soak in a hot bath ( or wallow as is said in Yorkshire) and it has relaxed me a little. It also depresses me as I can see how much out of alignment my leg is. If I push my left foot flat at the end of the bath my lower leg is twisted outwards by at least 20 degrees on my reckoning. It is an awful lot. If I straighten my leg up , the big toe side of my foot is 2 to 3 cm off the end of the bath with the outer side of my foot touching the bath. I knew before this last surgery that my right leg was already 2 cm shorter than my left. Looking at it this way it isn't surprising I'm having all this trouble. It is a pity because this new knee joint feels so much better and functions provided I don't weight bear and I've got 100/0 ROM.

Oh @busylizzie 0/100 is brilliant. I never achieved 0 previously but since this revision I can sit legs outstretched and feel the back of the mattress on my knee, so I think I'm close to 0 (says she hopefully!)
I'm not surprised you are so down, you are facing such a lot. As for wallowing, you do it. We can only wallow for so long until we get fed up. I have not been able to have a bath since my TKR. The number of times I've wanted one. Unfortunately our bath, although lovely is very high. It's a Victorian free standing style on four legs. Very beautiful but now unusable for me. Luckily we have a shower cubicle separate from the bath so I can use that xxx I have to ask how you manage? Or do you have a special bath?

@Nana moon 27 , we have a standard bath and a walk in shower. When I first started using the bath I set the shower stool to the same height as the bath and swizzled round on the stool to stand in the bath. To sit down, I lowered myself down using my 'good' leg and my arms not putting any weight on my left leg. The same to get out. Sometimes I used the grandkids' plastic hop up on the base of the bath to sit on on the way down and up, but had to be careful not to slip. Now I don't use the stool. I have upper body strength due to all the years on crutches.

Ah I see now @busylizzie. That's what I need to do then. Thank you for that. Gosh that'll give me something to aim for when my scar heals. Oooh the thought of the luxury of a long soak, that sounds great xoxx I'll measure the height of the bath and measure a stool first chance I can xxx I'd never have thought to get in and out like that! My upper body is very strong too! Perfect idea!!! Xxxx

Catch you later. Thanks again for that advice. It's so helpful! Xxx

Getting nearer to the time to see my consultant at last. I am still struggling with everything on a day to day basis. I even took a sleeping tablet again tonight but it hasn't worked, I'm still awake. My fibro has settled down a little at last which is good. The hot baths help. I'm going to try again and get some sleep soon. Thoughts about possible treatments keep going through my head as well as bad memories of previous hospital stays. I need to stay focused and try some of the relaxation techniques that I know and see if they help. Less than 36 hours to the appointment now, the wait has been never ending. Just hope there is a fix.

Hi @busylizzie,

I'm wide awake too...welcome to club insomnia. I'm glad that your fibro pain is reducing. It's hard to switch off when you have such an important appointment coming up. I'm sure you'll handle it just fine. I always take a piece of paper with memory joggers on it and a pen for response to all my appointments now x x x

I'm really sorry the sleep fairy is evading you tonight. It's so frustrating. I'm absolutely shattered but just can't go off x x x I'm certain a solution will be found.

Take care

@Nana moon 27, I always take a list of questions with me and hubby of course. Two brains are better than one when it comes to my age and remembering everything. I think it is the thought of more surgery and will it go right for me for a change. I really can't see any alternative to another revision except an amputation. When I mentioned amputation in the past he said we weren't at that stage yet although he was willing to do a permanent fusion which I have always declined - no way after the 27 weeks in a brace with an effective fusion.

Hello @busylizzie We updated our internet service and I've not been getting updates etc. So sorry I have not checked in on you.... I have a feeling that your surgeon will be quite sad that the last procedure has not been the solution you were hoping for. I don't know what a knee fusion means in terms of quality of life. I need to do some reading. I will be thinking about you at your appointment time. Jen :friends:

Hi @busylizzie

Is a knee fusion where a joint is permanently fused into one position? I'm no medic, think I will have to google that one xxx oh it sounds so terribly dire. I do hope an alternative may be found xxxx you have every right to be fed up. I'm not surprised you're awake with those thoughts going through your head.

Like you I also take pen, paper and husband. You're so right about two brains. Are you seeing the same surgeon or have you sought a second opinion off a revision specialist? I just feel so powerless that I cannot comfort you. However, I'm here if you need me. You can PM me if you wish too. I'm happy to talk privately.

I'll check in on you each day, if you don't mind that and anytime I can, I'll chat with you xxx

I managed a couple of catnaps last night/this morning. Trouble is I'm tired all day xxxx never mind, patience is a virtue, I guess!!!

Wishing you all the very best and hope you manage a little sleep

Love Nana moon 27 xxx

Good Morning @busylizzie

Wishing you well for your appointment with your surgeon and that he will have some answers for you.
Take care,
Cathie

Today is a bad day. Despite a hot bath my left leg is very painful and I can't seem to be able to get comfortable. Hospital has contacted me this morning and want me to go earlier to have a Xray before my appointment but only of my knee not complete leg! If the consultant wants more I will have to go back to the Xray department then back to outpatients again ugh! More walking and queuing, might take my scooter.

Oh @busylizzie, I am sorry you are in such awful pain again. How is the weather up there? Does that trigger your pain if it is damp and cold. It's sunny down here but very cold.

I have to be honest, if you feel the need to take your scooter then you should, especially if there's going to be a lot of going from one department to the other. I don't get why they do not just do a whole leg X-ray and be done with it!! Why suffer even more? My heart goes out to you. What times your appointment tomorrow?

Love Nana moon 27 xxx

Appointment is scheduled for 11:45 but that doesn't mean I will be seen then. Usually a long wait. They've a notice up saying you will not get a parking ticket if your appointment is late, I think that says it all. Parking, including disabled parking is hard to get. I usually take a snack and drink with me when my appointment is late morning.

Hubby has picked up grandkids and is looking after them at our house until Mum comes back from work . Any distraction helps, it keeps your mind off the pain.

Sorry to hear you're in so much pain again. Hope you get some satisfaction from your hospital visit. You must wonder when this is ever going to end.

I find the cold and damp weather makes my joints more painful - even my titanium ones! I have to have another steroid injection in my arthritic thumb joint next week as it's causing me great problems and is very painful. I can't say I'm looking forward to it. The last injection gave me relief for only 2 weeks so we'll see what happens this time. Otherwise my GP is talking about referral back to orthopaedics for a thumb joint replacement. Is no joint irreplaceable these days? Linda x
