Lanie....what a great post!!! You sound like a kid who was just set free in a candy factory!!! Keep up the wonderful recovery and give us more progress reports. Ones like this are a joy to read.
 
I can't believe I wore the TEDs for 6 weeks, in the south in hot weather and I took baby aspirin every day. Is that an abundance of caution or what?
 
yesterday was a down day. Oh my I did too much the day before.I am using the cpm machine . I have it set on 65. It was on 50 last week.

I am glad the surgery went smoothly. There will be ups and downs, but I was shocked too that after my revision things seemed so much better than the original surgery.
I hope things continue to go well for you.

It's hard to reel in the activity when you feel sooo much better! But you'll soon learn your limits and adjust accordingly.:dancy: :DOH: I'm impressed that you are using your cpm machine. I put mine in the bedroom closet and called the rep to come get it. :th_heehee:
 
Ouch my pain has increased so I called OS and went in yesterday.My knee isn't infected and this morning I went in and had a doplar done one the knee to check for blood clots. None were found. I have been resting, elevating and icing. It seems that the oxycontin 10 mg and the oxycodone-acetaminophen10-325 are not working as well. Any over the counter meds I can take. Maybe I just need a big dose of patience.
 
Whoa the swelling finally went down. I have been icing and elevating and today I wrapped my knee with the ace bandage. I guess the next thing I will do is set the alarm clock when meds are due to be taken.
 
Good morning bonesmarties! I just finished 45 minutes on the CPM. I am icing my knee and as soon as I get off the computer I will be icing and elevating. The knee is priority 1 right now. 6 more days until my OS appt. This will also be when I get my orders for outpatient PT. Yippee. I have read about you all using the bike for therapy. I just can't wait until PT and being able to make a full turn with that pedal.

I had RTKR 6-20-11 and 2 months PT. About 4 days post-op became very agitated and hyper. Dr prescribed Vicodin. OS prescribed meloxicam and omg was I ever in extreme pain!

After 3 weeks during home therapy, knee became completely stiff. Went to see OS and he said because of the pain and swelling I wasn't making progress and would need to take narcotics. He prescribed Tylenol 3 and Robaxin 75. Still no real pain relief. Went to see my primary care doc who referred me to a pain doc. He prescribed Tramadol.

After 1 month home therapy and aggressive outpatient therapy the OS was faxed notes telling him the PT believed an intervention was needed and suggested MUA. Boy was the OS mad! He said I needed to shove my knee back as far as I could every day.

I left in tears and got all my records from him after I had been reading BoneSmart for a long time. I found a new OS in a Major hospital that specializes in complex cases. Allergy test said allergic to cement used. I also have lots of scar tissue to be removed.

Same OS? Mine is not happy with me though we've had little contact. Encouraged my PT to continue aggressive "pushing" of my knees. I feel in limbo. I don't have an OS I feel comfortable with after all this and my last visit with him. I also hope to find a new one......... at what point???????? I don't know right from wrong with this issue right now for me!
 
It's perfectly okay to push on the knees provided it's not done to the point of pain. It should only be to the point of discomfort and then a teensy bit more. Otherwise the swelling produced by the trauma neutralises any improvement you might have achieved.
 
OS followup appt yesterday. Staples taken out without a hitch. Dr.wants that 90 degree in 4 days...so off to pt on Monday for 5 days a week for 2 weeks. I also start a different pain med Norco 10 325. A PT came in with Dr and showed me some exercises. I am scared of the pain when the knee does bend. She has a stretch out strap and placed it on my heel an d i was able to pull the knee up to bend..I ordered one online last night and can't wait to use it. The name of it is stretch out strap and I think with shipping and all it was less than 20 dollars.If anyone has experienced the fear and resistance in bending the knee please share your tips etc. I was able to take deep breaths as Os bent my knee gently...I am feeling anxious and depressed this morning just thinking about any new pain yet to come...I will let the PT know I do not want any over the top pain.:what:
 
No, you don't want any pain! Do be careful with that strap.

It's all very well for the surgeon to issue that edict but what is your ROM now? If it's a gap of more than 10 degrees it's not at all reasonable to expect it in 4 days. Besides which you are only 2 weeks out. Not at all reasonable and what's the hurry? It will come in its own time.
 
Josephine, it would be nice if we could call you up via Skype on the iPad, take you to the doctor's appointment and have you educate :wink1: the surgeon on ROM. I put as much faith, if not more, in your expertise.
 
Please listen to Jo's advice. The slower and gentler approach has proven itself time and time again for our BoneSmarties. Sadly, too many surgeons just don't understand this. You need to pay attention to YOUR body and do what's right for you. That bend will come when your knee is good and ready.
 
Today is 1 month since RTKR revision. It was also my 1st pt session. As soon as they put my knee on the round wedge and hooked up the tens and warm blankets and a 2 pound weight....the tears started...1st I took off the warm heavy blankets and lasted 22 minutes. Next I got some massage and some more stretching exercises.:cry:I finally got to my happy place with the stretching:wink1:I feel better now than I did this morning. Thank you bone smarties for empowering me with all of this wonderful shared knowledge.
 
It is now 30 days since my surgery. Today was day 3 of pt. My rom is 65. The OS and PT want the rom to get to 90 soon. I told the PT today that I had plenty of time to get ROM but she disagreed..I do the physical therapy but stop and take breaks when I need to. The first thing when I arrive they put the tens unit on my knee and a 2 1/2 pound weight on my ankle, next comes the heavy damp warm blanket. After about 15 minutes it becomes unbearable. Today I lasted 20 minutes. So I was told I need to improve tolerating this procedure.....because we need to get the knee to bend.:what:
 
Jeepers! They are obsessed! Don't they realise they are slowing things up by causing a load of swelling and pain? Besides which is sounds like an ancient treatment I was trained to use as a student nurse!

Is the 2½lb weight supposed to improve your flexion? :scratch:
 
:cry:My pain and stiffness has been bad tonight. My OS nurse called yesterday and said there was a problem with taking tramadol and my anti depressant celexa. So now I am taking robaxin 750 and norco 10 in addition to celexa. I am 25 days since the surgery. The nurse advised me to speak with my PCP. Why in the world can't they just call in something else? I am almost out of the Norco and will call OS office on Monday to get a refill. I found a website to check drug interactions. I know I listed all the medications I am on before the surgery. I feel like quitting the anti depressant so I don't suffer .
 
Oh dear! They really aren't getting their act together, are they? Keep after them.
