4 more days til my surgery. I am getting a new knee replacement, they will take out the 4 month old knee and put in a smith nephew cementless one as I am allergic to the cement...My surgery will be Monday morning 7:30am...I am so hopeful and ready to begin again.

Lanie,
I just found your thread. I had a PKR 3/1 and then had to have a revision on 6/21. My problem was not as bad as yours...it turned out the femoral part of the PKR was loose. I think I knew from the beginning there was something wrong. It just didn't feel right. I had more pain as time went on and my OS decided in May that something was wrong and he was great about pain mgmt. I am so sorry you had such a bad experience.
I found the recovery from the revision different in some ways than the original surgery. My ROM and extention came back fairly quick but I was so fatigued. I just couldn't get enough rest and had no energy. My OS thought it was because I had had 2 surgeries so close together. I can't ever remember being that tired before and it lasted for several weeks. My advice is to take care of yourself after the surgery and don't push yourself too hard. I found bonesmarties after my first surgery and I learned so much. I think I did about 1/2 of what PT told me to do and did more icing and elevating and took my meds on schedule the first few weeks and gained my ROM faster.
I hope things go well for you. I am glad you were able to find a compentent OS.
Take care,
Greda

Lanie....post when you can. I'm eager to hear how you're doing.

I got home last night October 26th...the block wore off pretty fast...OWWWWWW. They began giving delaudid and methahydrone I think.Next I had an ultrasound on my knee for clots. None were found so I came home.I have been icing and elevating.

Glad you're home safely. Just take things very easy for a while now....rest, ice, elevate and take those pain meds on a schedule all through the day and night. You know the routine!!!

Day 5 after rivision. Wow this isn't as bad as I thought it would be. I couldn't ask for better care. The white hose i wear isn't comfortable at all. I am going to look up info on them right here at bonesmart!!! Bonesmart is great!

Oh the dread TEDs! Aren't they terrible? Most evidence is that they don't alter the stats on DVT and thrombosis at all. The best prophylactic for that is mobilisation! So do your ankle pumps and foot rotations, get up and walk about for 5-10 mins several times a day and drink plenty. You'll be fine.

Glad to hear things are going well for you, Lanie!!!

I was sorta lucky that my OS doesn't like the white socks. He uses blood thinners instead.

I got rid of those TEDS asap, I don't think the words were out of OS's mouth before I ripped them off. Pnly had to use mine about 10 days to 2 weeks.

Oh how I hate those TEDs. I took mine off as soon as I got home. I know that my surgeons office said that they recommend that I wear them for at least 2 weeks but when I saw him for my post op visit he just said something like, yeah, those TED hose really help keep the bandages on...and then he smiled...so I knew that it was OK and really, I was far more comfortable with them off!!!

Glad to hear you're recovering now Lanie, take it easy and look after yourself, look forward to hearing about your progress.

I had to wear my TEDS for 4 weeks:hissyfit: horrible things!

I wish you a very smooth recovery and DONT LET ANYONE PUSH YOUR KNEE!!!!
Sandy

:yes 4:goodness, gracious I feel so good today. It must be the medication for pain control and an excellent surgeon. I have been walking since day 2. My knee feels like it did when I was 20!!! I think it will be awhile before I can climb a ladder or get in the flower beds with the shovel. This is truly amazing to me considering the hell the 1st TKR was. Now I have to remember rest, ice and elevate. I see th OS Nov 10th. I guess I will start physical therapy soon. I am counting my blessings . Bonesmarties...thank u very much for the support
