@DebraR I hope the weird feelings with our hips passes soon. I don't feel that way about my knee replacements. I think it is because of the restrictions and possible dislocations. I hope the adaptations will soon become second nature. I hope my right hip holds out for a good while. My hat goes off to you for getting the second one done. Going out to run errands with hubby later on today. I might try to set up my painting area. I would like to start doing some art work again. Then again bending at the waist to paint while sitting comes very close to 90 degrees. Bummer. Hugs to you..pain free day for you I hope!

@sunbunny Hope you can start painting again soon, as doing the things we did before surgery always makes us feel normal again. I guess I will have to wait until at least the middle of October to start feeling normal again. But that's okay, thank God we only have two hips so won't have to go through this again ha ha. Have a peaceful rest of your day.

@DebraR time will pass fast and you will be all fixed up. Just in time for beautiful fall in Canada! After having both my knees and this hip, whew could use a few years! Lol. Six weeks out today and feel like I am about 60 percent. The restrictions are difficult . Dropped everything today. Oops! Hugs. Have a great weekend!

Hugs to you too, Sunbunny. I am at 10 weeks and operated hip feels pretty good, I got my shorts on today without the use of my reacher and actually was able to wash my toes in the shower without using my long handled sponge!! Progress! By the time I go for the other one, this one should be in great shape, gets stronger and stronger as time passes by, you will see. xo Deb

You are making great progress @DebraR - it is so good to achieve personal milestones - good for you :)

Not sure if I have provided you with these links - apologies if I have :)

The following is a link to an article which provides the science regarding the healing process beneath and around the implant and the approximate timeframes for our bodies healing phases and processes.

Healing Phases & Nutrition

Nutrition plays a huge part in surgical recovery, in fact it is one of the 'forgotten topics' of recovery..

This second link is to other nutritional articles which you may find interesting, including one relating to bone health.

Nutritional advice for pre op and recovery

This third link refers to my ongoing research..

nutritional-snippets-did-you-know

Feel free to tag me if you have any questions regarding nutrition.

However, I would appreciate if you (or any other member) do not request advice regards supplements as I would be breaking the Common Law Act (under which I am governed) to prescribe outside of my practice, especially via the Internet.

Doing well Debra milestones will Fall even more quickly now.

@Poppet thanks for the articles, you had sent them previously (or someone else did) but happy you sent them again. Second surgery in July for the other hip, they will come in handy. Thanks again.

@DebraR - July is getting closer. Soon you'll be a double hippy and walking so well you'll feel and look ten years younger. I still think you are very brave.
Hugs!
Diane

Still numb at incision from first thr on March 19, this is normal, right?

Hi @DebraR -Time is passing quickly - I can't imagine going all through this again ever let alone after 3 or 4 months! My incision is not numb but I still have some numbness in my leg and knee area but it is much better than it was and seems to be almost gone early in the morning. Nerves do take a long time to regrow and reconnect. You are one tough and brave woman! All the best!
Diane

@GrannyDi - thanks for thinking I'm brave, but I just want my life back. I love to exercise and have not been able to do enough that would be of benefit to me for the last 3 years!! I have managed to keep the weight down but it's the health benefits other than weight that I want. Also heart health, have not be able to do much (or any). Sometimes cannot believe that I have to go through all that again so soon, but I don't see the point in waiting. It's not going to get better, only worse. And my hubby is 10 years older than me, we need to do the things we want to do and do them now. So hopefully, by the end of this year, I will be all good (and a double hippie!!!)

Congrats @ DebraR on your surgery date. I agree with you. No sense waiting. Things change. You are ready!
Best wishes for a great outcome. We are all watching and praying for you.

@DebraR sending all the best hugs and thoughts for you as you prepare for your second new hip. I agree you are very brave. Restriction of 90 degrees is forever for me as well as pillow between leg on non operated side. Other stuff will come off in about four weeks. Been to the pool once but afternoon thunderstorms as closed the open swim today. I might just go to my regular class in morning. Company coming for the weekend tomorrow. Trying to get some cleaning done but it is a slow go. Again best thoughts to you and hope this finds you planning for some fun stuff in the fall.

No surgery date yet, just pre-op tests, but surgery date won't be far off. I will post the exact date soon....thanks for the well wishes.

I am really bummed out. The hospital called and the second surgery I thought I was going to have this month is now going to be in September! So instead of a summer recuperating and healing on my way to a pain free life is now a summer of hip pain. Not happy!!!

Hi @DebraR. I have been a long time "lurker" on your thread because I knew you were going to have both hips "done" and that the plan was to stage them. This is my story, too. I had the right hip surgery on January 27 and then 19 weeks later the left hip surgery on June 9. I thought I might have to delay that second surgery because the out-patient PT folks weren't sure my right leg would be strong enough to "carry the load" especially during the early days of rehab. I was pretty neutral about the whole thing. On the one hand I wanted to get the surgery over with and end that bone on bone pain from the left hip. I'm pretty sure my left hip slowed the recovery of my right hip to some degree. But, on the other hand, I sure didn't want to start another rehab. with a weak leg -- what if the weakness caused me to fall? I finally talked myself into being o.k. whatever the outcome. If surgery -- well, I sort of knew some of the things I would be facing. If delayed surgery, then I would just make sure I stayed healthy and tried to strengthen my legs as much as possible. I even thought that my husband and I could plan some little fun outings -- short drives, nice restaurants, maybe a movie, visit friends -- and look at the delay more as a break from concentrating on my hips so much. For me, the surgery went forward and I'm now 24 days out.

I'm sorry your surgery was delayed since you sound like you have a considerable amount of pain. Did they give you any reason for moving it to September? One thing I can tell you for sure about the second surgery is that the preparation isn't as time consuming as the first surgery. You already have all of the medical aides so no shopping around there ( I must have gone to every single Medical Supply store in town on my first surgery!). My husband and I had a continuing discussion re the things that had worked well the first time and that we wanted to do again and the things that didn't work or were overkill and that we weren't going to do the second time. The entire process part was just a lot easier for me. Oh, and one thing that happened to me that I'm really glad happened is that, once the PT team said that my right hip was strong enough for the surgery, they (PT) started doing "prehab" exercises with my left hip. The exercises were simple and never hurt. In addition PT started working with me to use my right hip as the "good" leg for things like stairs, sitting, getting in bed, getting in the car. It was such a good idea and so helpful to me because there is definitely a mental shift that takes place. You'll have time to practice if you think something like that might help.

I hope the time moves quickly for you. If there is anything I can tell you about the second surgery experience, just ask. In the meantime, I'm thinking about you and wishing you the very best of luck!

@DebraR so sorry to hear you have to wait until September. Is there a cancellation list you can get on? Hopefully time will pass quickly and you can start next year pain free. Thoughts and hugs!
