So here I am on vacation in New Hampshire, staying with friends at a beautiful condo right on the ocean. Have been at the beach, but it was so painful to walk the 5 minutes to the beach. Trying to make the best of it, but today I am all alone as hubby went golfing, wife of friend went to workout and then to an appointment. Tried to go for a walk, but couldn't as too painful. My operated hip is fine, but the other one is not. Hopefully, next summer will be so much different.

Enjoy!! I love the ocean so much, the relaxing sound of the waves!! Be safe walking on the beach!!

Beach walking is solo not the best I used to scurry over the dry sand to get to the firmer wet sand. Its so often that once we have one done the second hip.starts shouting. Enjoy your wee break I'm going green.

@DebraR sorry to hear that you were left alone! As I recall you were originally scheduled for LTHR surgery around this time, and it prolly doesn't help thinking about that! Hope you have friends and family close by to visit & keep your mind busy and help keep you active going forward. :friends:

Hi all. Each and every one of your responses are so much appreciated! I am trying to keep the tears from flowing today, but it is not working very well. For some reason, both my feet are swollen (on the top). I am 4 months post-op from my RTHR and pre-op for the left side. The left one is so much more painful than the right one, and even more painful than before my right side replacement! I take naproxen 375mg twice a day and oxycodone 5mg once or twice a day, I could take more oxycodone as the prescription says "1 tablet every 4to6 hours, if needed", but I hate taking it, so I stick to 2 a day max. This swelling started when I was on vacation in NH but I thought that it would go away when I got home, as I would not be walking around as much. I looked on the Internet and it appears that it could be caused by the medication. Should I call my doctor? I am so looking forward to the time when I do not need to take medications!!!

@DebraR I am so sorry you are having so much swelling and pain. I can't take oxycodone. Is there something else you could try? Maybe a call to switch up meds to see if that helps. Hugs

Let's tag @Josephine for her advice on whether your meds might be causing this swelling.

Oh Debra, you are a one! On the one hand you're complaining about pain and on the other you say you could take more meds but hate taking them! The answer is obvious and completely up to you.

I've checked on various drugs sites and nowhere do I find any mention of oxycodone causing swelling in the legs. Please understand that I'm not trying to be horrid to you here, just trying to draw your attention to the obvious - point being, why blame it on the meds when you know what kicked it off? Don't you think it's more likely because you did a bit to much on your holiday
I suggest you see a lymphatic drainage massage therapist who can help reduce the swelling.

@Josephine. Thanks for your response. Guess you are right on both counts. I will take more oxy and elevate leg more. May also look into the massage you suggested.

@DebraR hang in there girl! Get on top of that pain -- there is nothing more debilitating and discouraging. So glad that you have what you need. Can't wait to hear how you feel in 24 hours. :console2:

Do the rest, elevate ice and if no improvement then check with Dr, esp as its both feet. Take care

@Josephine
it was the naproxen that showed swelling as a side effect, in any case, seems to have subsided quite a bit.

@wcgirl @Legin @sunbunny
I so appreciate your warm responses! Nothing worse than feeling bad physically and mentally! The swelling has subsided and am also feeling better emotionally. The vacation really did take a lot out of me. The people we stayed with have recently separated after over 40 years of marriage, so a good time for us to be there and be supportive, on the other hand I think it drained me emotionally as I care about both parties so much! Thanks for being here and your wonderfully caring words. My next post will hopefully be an update on my surgery date........

@DebraR so sorry to hear about your friends. I can't imagine after 40 years. We are coming up on 38. I am super glad you are feeling better. I have taken heed from your vacation and am building lots of rest into mine. Except I am eating everything. Rained all day today in the mountains and it is only 70 degrees. I have a big pot of vegetable soup on the stove cooking. Hopefully my body will be able to handle good food. Lol. Take care

As a member of the midlife divorcee club I can say how difficult it is for friends. I thought I was doing dine but friends said I was a shell on automation living.
If I found out ex wasn't doing well I asked friends of both of us to help out. The bottom line being however you feel now the marriage was full of good things that shouldn't be forgotten. It would be a very long story to go into all but its hard not to get or feel pulled into a supporter of one side or the other, guilt will always follow. Try to take some Debra time me thinks a good pampering session would be a grand idea.

I have been away for almost a week so lots of catching up to do but I am so glad you have gotten better than when I last checked. Hang in and hang on! It is a roller coaster of a ride. Hugs!
