Revision TKR Totally recovered at last!

Hi Marian, Good news ! So glad to hear that you're doing well. Enjoy your salad, good sign that you are hungry☺

I had a OS in Allentown PA fix my TKR. You can personal message me if you would like the name. He would probably be at least three hours or more from you depending where in CT you live.

Marian, I am so glad things went well. In an odd way, it was comforting to hear how messed up your knee was - wasn't it? Kinda confirmed what you have been saying for 8 months - SOMETHING is wrong! It sounds like your new OS did a great job and you are going to healing up in no time! What is different in this hospital with your recovery so far? I hope you have a peaceful night. How long will you be in the hospital? You are being prayed for!

Wonderful news Marion!! So glad you came through it without any problems. Your knee was a real mess, no wonder you were in so much pain!
Toradol is good stuff and works well. What is great to read is that you are hungry and not nauseated :loveshwr:
This recovery will be much better. Too bad you can't get the 1st OS to pay for the 2nd one.

One week from tomorrow for me. Must admit I am very nervous and going through the "what ifs".....

@Glamg1979 I know you will do fine. You have a good doctor and you're ready to have two good knees.

@Timetolive Ive had nurses and aides here in my room as soon as I call. No waiting for pain meds at all. The nurse went through what meds I could have and I decided to try some pills first and use IV meds if I need them.
My knee had fluid inside of it so my OS sent out cultures to make sure there is no infection present. :prayer:
I've got an ice wrap on my knee with the next set of inserts in the freezer in my room. I held my weight getting up to the chair where I spent at least two hours. When I stood up the pain was too much for me to put my full weight on it. The pain meds are already working for me. I'm going to try to get some sleep tonight. I have a private room and the hospital is very quiet. Good night to everyone.

Marian, I'm so happy to hear you're fairing well. Gotta love IV Toradol! When nothing else did the trick Toradol got me over the hump. And you're not nauseous! Yay! Sleep as much as you can, a quiet hospital is great for sleeping.

I'm glad to hear it's all done, Marian, and that things are going well. :yes!:

As it's been a while since your original TKR and your thread is quite long, I'm going to re-post the BoneSmart mantras and recovery reading list, so they'll be here, for handy reference:

First are the BoneSmart mantras ....
- rest, elevate, ice and take your pain meds by the clock
- if it hurts, don't do it and don't allow anyone - especially a physiotherapist (PT) - to do it to you. Exercise only gently.
- if your leg swells more or gets stiffer in the 24 hours after doing it, don't do it again
- if you won't die if it's not done, don't do it
- never stand when you can sit, never sit when you can lie down, never stay awake when you can go to sleep!
- be active as much as you need to be but not more than is necessary, meaning so much that you end up being in pain, exhausted or desperate to sit down or lie down!

@Celle Thanks. Last night I couldn't sleep at all so I read through most of them then. Lol

Only on thing I don't like is that I can't elevate my knee at all. Lots of ice though. I had a discussion with yourself about it but I'll have to ask OS. Kind of painful keeping straight outa d flat I bed. No CPM. That info I read was outdated, I have lots of questions to ask OS or his PA in the morning. All I know right now is that I'm ok with minimal pain. Nurses check about every 30 minutes to an hour asking if I need pain meds. I'm happy so far. I've also been itching like crazy from head to toes. I'm not sure why. I just took some more Benadryl. I'm hoping it calms down the itching. Nurse told me it was from duramorph that they use in spinal. I'm not sure what they us d first time. I had no itching then. It's driving me crazy from head to toes. @Josephine How long will this last? Does it mean I'm allergic to any morphine products?

I had a fractured medial femoral condyle, he's not sure why except I have soft bone!! It's extremely painful, I sit here and wonder why me, then I have a pity Patti party, crying all the time!! I will hope and pray all goes well for you!! What happened that you are having a revision?? God love you!!

So glad you are on this side of your revision. Now you are truly on the road to a real recovery. Thank God for your new OS. Rest and then rest some more! Big hug!

@newlybionic - Marian, don't worry too much if you can't elevate while in hospital - but do ask. You'll be home soon and you'll be able to elevate to your heart's content.

Nobody in hospital offered to help elevate my leg after my last TKR, but I had an automatic bed with controls, so I could elevate the foot of the bed myself. They would let it down to do things for/with me and sometimes they would elevate it again, but sometimes not. I just adjusted the bed to suit myself and no one ever commented.

@PDA My patella wasn't tracking correctly. It was off towards the outside of my knee. While OS was in there he found some extra cement in the soft tissues too. I'm hurting a it now and still very itchy. The nurse going to try to get an order for a different drug to stop the itching.

@Celle They locked out the bed so I can't elevate the bottom of the bed at all. The ice packs have started hurting me beacause they are too heavy. I took it off for now. I'm squirming all over the bed. I'm exhausted but can't seem to fall asleep between the pain and itchiness. Hopefully I do get some sleep soon because I have 2PT sessions tomorrow and one OT session. It will be a busy day.

Meanies! Never mind. You'll be home soon.

Some narcotics do cause itching, even if you're not allergic to them. It made me want to scratch my head all the time.

Good to know it's all over Marion. I itched all over with octal morphine with first TKR, but not at all with second. I was scratching in my hair all the time, down my back and all over my arms. I don't think it means your allergic to it, it is just a side effect. Hope all goes well when you get home.

My BFF is allergic to all morphine products, itches and gets a rash. How is your nausea?

Good morning Marian. I hope by now you have had some rest. Tramadol made me itch like crazy. A side effect - not an allergy. It feels like your toenails even itch! :scare: Praying for you to find the right meds for you to have minimal pain.

Marian,
I am happy that your problems were found and all taken care of. I hope your recovery goes smoothly. My revision will be done on June 6.
