No good coming to OZ, the loos (including the disabled one's) are very low, which is the fashion over here at the moment.

But hey Jamie, it would suit you honey :)

Hi Britchick, I am slowly working through the posts to find you. :)

You sound as though you are doing really well, I am so thrilled for you xxxx

One more thing about the public toilet thing -- I was at a restaurant on the weekend and went to the "disability accessible" toilet stall and saw the lowest toilet I think I've ever seen in my life!! They had a long bar on the wall beside it and you could tell they had knocked out the sidewall to make the stall larger at some point in the past (maybe those are the only two requirements in the US). I really had to go, so I used my cane in one hand and grabbed onto the bar and managed to sit down and get up with my operated leg sticking out in front so I wouldn't go (way) past 90 degrees when I sat down and got up. Ridiculous!!!

Sharon, Your recovery sounds like it's going so well. I'm very happy for you :-) :-) :-)

I was about to say that it is a pain in the --- but getting down to a low toilet for the first time when out can be a challenge but it does get better eventually.

Six week checkup on Thursday, so hopefully all my restrictions should be lifted . I think because I am short, it wont be so bad for me, I do sit on low chairs when I am out, but my physio showed me how to kind of slouch and stick my leg out, so I'm not breaking any restrictions, although i wouldn't like to try that on the bog ! :th_heehee:

Good luck with your check up. Hoping you get a great report and can then enjoy your vacation. I always look forward to them as they seem like little milestones along the way.

Funnily enough if you've got something to grab onto whilst lowering yourself the straight leg method works well whatever the type of seat!! (does for me anyway).

Hope all's well on Thursday, let us know!!

Charlie
ps Will non Brits understand "bog"???:th_heehee:

HI Sharon, talking of 'the bog', with my first hip I wasn't given any restrictions, or any aids, as my OS doesn't think they're necessary.. The physio taught me how to use an ordinary loo whilst I was still in the hospital, using the method you describe. It did work, but as I pointed out to her at the time, it did break the 90 degree rule. Since I didn't have to observe that, it didn't matter. Anyway, this time around, my rather maverick OS has been persuaded to allow his patients the same privileges as everyone else's, so I'm going to have a raised loo seat delivered by social services.

Well, you'll be glad to have your restrictions lifted, I'm sure. Good luck for tomorrow!

I bought two of the raised loo seats, the first one was an extra 4 inches and it was ridiculous, far too high for me, so then I had to get a lower one at two inches, which was better ............but I'll be glad to see the back of them though !
They remind me of giant pottys, very glam :th_heehee:

You bought them??? What are you going to do with them now? I shouldn't think there's much of a market for used raised loo seats, hehehe!

Oh dear, now I come to think of it, the loan one I'll get will have been used....

Yeuch ! Poor you, at least mines pure and only mine ! Lol
I'll probably find a place to hide one of them away out of sight until I need my next hip doing . But the other one will end up at the tip, have to get my husband to make that trip though !

My plan is to install a ADA (American Disability Act) approved toilet on the main floor before I have my left hip fixed. It'll raise the seat between 3" - 4". I didn't have any restrictions on hip angle, but my knee and it's swelling made it nearly impossible to not use an elevated seat.

well had my 6 week check up and all restrictions have been lifted :dancy:
I can sleep on my side, drive my car, have a bath ( yay ! ) , basically he said, there was nothing that I wasn't allowed to do !
.....easier said than done ! I tried to bend down towards my foot , no chance !!!! And walking up the stairs the correct way is a bit weird . The raised toilet seat can go though, which will be nice. He just said take it slowly and don't rush at doing things, but there was no reason why things wouldn't be back to normal soon. :thumb:
Have my physio tomorrow , its an hour long appointment, I think it should go ok, I can walk fine, just hope it doesn't show that I hardly did any of the exercises they gave me. :secretaea:

Morning Sharon,

That's great news having all restrictions lifted YAY!!

Your bog chat was hysterical hehehehehe! Now your restriction are lifted you will find the more you move around things get much easier and before you know it bending down will be easy :)

Have fun with PT that really helps with taking things to the next level!

xxooxx

Thanks Sarah, it does seem a bit weird though, purposely doing things that were forbidden before ! Have to get my head around this !!! :rolleyespink:

Great News! Love your last line...hopefully they'll never know Ha!Ha!

Soon enough you'll be doing everything and not even thinking about it. Enjoy!

Me again.....

Sharon, you will find your hip has a natural built in alarm and will tell you if it doesn't want to do something, and yes the toughest part is getting the mind to say its ok now! It will though it comes with time, a lot of it is confidence. Your PT will help with this :)

xxooxx

Hi Sharon
I am glad your check-up went well. Now you can do whatever your body lets you do. What a great feeling it must be.
Congratulations.
Bea
