just hope it doesn't show that I hardly did any of the exercises they gave me. :secretaea:

I was thinking the same thing today as I was having a return appointment having been not quite as diligent as I felt I should with the '3x daily' exercises I'd been given last month.

Anyway I 'fessed up - told him I'd been doing them but not as much as he'd said.................he laughed and said what I'd been doing was great........I said 'so do you tell people to do more knowing they'll probably do less than you've said?' :what:.............of course I bet you know what his answer was.

My surgeon has these written guidelines that have the two week activity listing that are ridiculous ... I'm sure he does the same thing as your doctor.

I could barely do any of his "required" exercises at two weeks, the way he described wanting his patients to do them -- straight leg lift in a lying down position and a lying-on-your-side leg lift abduction exercise. At that point, I could barely make my leg lift an inch doing them that way! I could do modified portions of these exercises, but not just lie back and do a good straight leg raise or a lying side abduction like--boom, there it goes up in the air, just like that!

I just worked on the modified versions that the PT showed me that enabled me to work my way up to doing them the way he described ... good thing I didn't take him completely seriously, or I would have thought I was a complete failure at the two week point!

I knew you were doing well!! Congrats!

Dorothy

Major milestone accomplished! :yes 4: Just take things slow. You will be able to do it all. But muscles are still tight. Ease into these new activities. It took me months to be able to bend correctly. And one day you will just find yourself going up the stairs normally. Just a bit more patience.

Yes Jacey, surgeon and physio both said my muscles will be tight, my physio took a rolling pin to my leg this morning !!! Weird and painful at first, but it worked, leg was a lot more flexible after . She gave me a few more exercises to do, nothing like those outrageous ones that Dorothy was talking about :th_heehee:....they were unbelievable !
Must just point out, my physio didn't hit me with the rolling pin, just realised what it sounded like, she rolled it along the side of my leg really hard to massage the tight muscles and it was rather successful :thumb:

Sharon, it sounds like you have myofascial trigger points that are causing the tightness. When your PT did the rolling pin thing, she was breaking them up to the tissue could stretch more again. It's my understanding that trigger points have to be released before the muscle can stretch out--you can't just stretch trigger points away. Since the rolling pin thing worked so well for you, perhaps your PT can show you how you can do some of this on your own in between sessions. I bet that will help you stay more limber.

Dorothy

I had several PT sessions like that and releasing the trigger points does work! They also had me use a hard rubber ball at home on the trigger points to keep them loose. Glad you have a good PT to work with you!

Hope she wasn't practising a new cooking methods after getting that Gordon Ramsey cook book for Christmas.:loll:
Couldn't let her indoors loose on me with a roller pin she would have the time of her life.

Jacey, I have to try the rubberball. I also still have some tightness on my side. The PT always masages it after they warm me up and I exercise there. But, so far no rolling pin. :th_heehee:
I do notice when the PT massages the side harder I can walk better afterwards.
What ideas are here on bonesmart. It really helps so much.
Thanks Bea

Hi Sharon

How is everything going hopefully everthing is fine. :thumb:

Hi Billy
yep everything is going fine thanks, the walking is good, putting on socks is still doing my head in, I just can't quite reach ...grrrrr
Have a dental appointment this morning, have no idea if this is a good idea or not, as there doesn't seem to be any firm advise one way or the other. I seem to think it may be a bit early, but I have really bad toothache at night and ordinary painkillers don't seem to work, so I am resorting to the Tramadol that I had left over from my recovery.
i have just phoned my surgeons secretary for his take on this and she will get back to me when she has spoken to him, although it may be a bit late as my appointment is in just over an hour............oh well, what will be will be.

She has just got back to me and he says, the latest info on it is, after 6 weeks you do not need antibiotocs before treatment, anything before that and you do. He said I can ask my dentist what he does and if they prefer to give them, they are available on the day ......okaaaay, I'll see what he says

Sharon, if you need the tooth extracted you will need to take antibiotics before the procedure. Ask your dentist for his advice.

You are right - they are all over the place with this issue. My surgeon and dentist said take antibiotics prior to any invasive procedure like root canal or extraction. Others say take them for cleaning as well! :rolleyespink:

Good luck and let us know how you get on!

well just had my tooth refilled. My dentist and surgeon both said the same thing, both thought antibiotics were unnecessary and said the latest on this is, unless its something like heart surgery then there is no need for them. He seemed to know what he was talking about and there was no hesitation when I asked him.
Basically I trust my dentist, he is very thorough with everything he does so I will go with what he says. I think as long as we take our surgeon and dentists advice, whatever that may be, until they are all saying the same thing, that is all we can do for now .

Good news Sharon. Glad you got things sorted.

My dentist and OS said the same thing. I have had a crown replaced recently and they confirmed I didn't need antibiotics.

Sharon

Great news and glad to hear everything is going ok, dentists It's more the price i worry about now.
Good to hear you got your filling done and things have sorted themselves out. :thumb:

Hi Sharon

Pleased to hear about the good news with the dental visit.

Good result and interesting about no need for antibiotics 

Hi,
just thought I would check in, as I haven't been online for a while. The weather here in the UK has been lovely and I have been in the garden, pruning, weeding and planting things !....all things i had to stop doing months ago.
i have also been out and about, meals pub and a concert and I've been wearing my heels, big wacking wedges, was a bit nervous at trying them out at first but I'm a gal who likes my heels ! :th_heehee:
It's my holiday next week, looking forward to lying in the sun, just hope once I'm lay down, I can get back up again !

Hi Sharon,

Sounds like the "Spring" bug's got to you as well, my missus has had me cutting the grass, pruning hedges etc. etc. all of which I love doing ......NOT!! My ideal day in the garden is in a hammock with a cold beer and a good read!!

Re the getting up thing, I found myself on the floor at the gym a couple of weeks back, I'd done some stretches and Abs and then thought "How the heck am I going to get back up again?" I did... obviously, it involved rolling onto my front and levering up with the "good" leg and my arms .... elegant it wasn't, still it worked. Have you practiced? If not, I advise you to, especially if you're going to do it in front of other people!!!

Have a good holiday!

Love

Charlie

Wonderful to hear how well you are doing Britchick... Have a wonderful holiday and enjoy the good spring weather over there? I am snuggled down with a doona, blanket and a hot water bottle!

Winter is coming for us in this part of the world 

WooooHoooo Sharon,

Love the high heel part...you sound fabulous plus the gardening sounds complete fun, I'm really happy you are "springing" back to all the things you could do before the hip pain.

Don't forget a little SPF protection in the sun, not for major issues just for preventive stuff. Jeeeezzz did I sound like someone's mum then! Ohhhhh dear sorry I think working in the beauty, skin industry has made me a little proactive and potentially nagging (not meant that way).

Enjoy the beautiful weather and have a fabulous weekend!

xxooxx
