What bonzer sayings from all my cobbers, far out, you are all such fair dinkum dags, give it a burl!

I'm no drongo, just a ridgy-didge OZ who is about to veg out..

Alright possums, have a ripper 2012 - Hooroo!

Thanks for that Sandy. I think  Where is google translate when you need it?

Anyway, dumb question time. How do you tag users? :thicko:

Hi Cappy
Glad you enjoyed my Aussie slang, sadly you don't get to hear it spoken much unless you go to the Northern Territory, it seems to have become 'politically incorrect'.
We lived in NT for a few years and boy I could tell some stories that would have you rolling around in hysterics.. There is a saying that someone has gone troppo... Well in the Aussie tropics there are high incidences of people losing it in the 100% humidity and there is a lot of violence and strange behavior during that season.

We met some of the purest Aussie characters whilst living there, lots of fun..

How are you doing Cappy?

Not a dumb question at all Cappy. To tag any member within a post put the @ sign then their name followed by a semi colon. I will tag you so you can see the format. @The Cappuccino Kid:

When you are in the post the tag stays like normal print. Once you submit the post the tag changes to blue meaning it is active. The tagged member will receive a notice in their Control Panel that they have been tagged.

Let me know if this works for you!

Ha, that would have to be said with an Australian accent - I can hear it! It was also the name of a George Harrison album. :musicbore:

How are you doing Cappy?

I'm doing well thanks Sandy. I'm getting a little concerned that I am still having problems with flexibility / muscle strength / groin pain but compared to how I was this time last year I'm fantatstic!

Could this be iliospoas syndrome?

I still have pain - primarily in my groin - when I raise my foot off the ground by more than a step height or so. I still have to lift my leg into the car. If I am cycling, I cannot stand in the saddle as I cannot power my leg "over the top".

I am due back at the phsio in a couple of weeks but if there is anything I can work on meanwhile I will.

I've tagged Alex and Jo - because I now know how to - but please chip in with any thoughts.

@alexthecat: @Josephine:

Thanks

:skeptical: Never got that tag, Kevin!
Let's see if this gets our techno chappie on the case, @RichardRobins:
And me as well again @Josephine:

Nope, didn't get that one either .....

@Josephine: I got the tag. :what:

Cappy, I can't say whether it's iliopsoas syndrome. My best advice would be to rest that hip and then talk to the physio about it. If it is iliopsoas syndrome, they are going to want you to rest a while anyway. You especially want to stay away from gym machines (cycles, ellipticals, etc.) that cause repetitive hip flexion.

If there is a sore spot on the front of your hip (or anywhere really), you could try ice on that at the end of the day and use heat on it in the morning.

This is a stretch that may help the psoas or it may not. :rolleyespink: You can give it a try and, if it's not working for you, don't bother with it.

The goal here is to get the thigh of the bottom leg flat on the bed with a bend of 90 degrees or greater in the knee. I wouldn't recommend trying too hard though because it is possible to overstretch these muscles and you don't want that.

Well, mine came through eventually - I ended up with three! :snork:

52 weeks ago today - the 7th January 2011 - I met an orthopaedic surgeon for the first time. Although Mr Campbell ultimately did not perform my surgery as I was parachuted into the Nuffield a couple of weeks later, it was the first time the practical aspects were discussed.

A year down the line, one false start due to high blood pressure, both my hips are done. I feel so much better than I did last January.

So, what about the next 12 months? I will keep doing my exercises to improve my rom / flexibility. My BP and weight are still too high but I believe that when my weight comes down then my BP will too.

So, felloe smarties, it's just a case of keep on keepin' on!

Hi Cappy, I posted the other day in response to your psoas question but it seems the gremlins were playing. What I said was that your symptoms do sound similar to mine, which WAS diagnosed as tendonitis.....the 'cure' has been to rest (using crutches again) and anti inflammation drugs. However, I did try stretches and a chiropractor before that. Hopefully you will get it sorted soon. Sounds like you're doing great though....keep on keeping on.:0)

Hi Cappy, sorry you are having a few probs with BP and weight, they certainly do go hand in hand....

I just can't project forward 1 year with #2 hip surgery around May this year... I just have 1 Aug 2014 in mind (date of retirement)... really hoping for full and complete recovery from both by then.

Good luck Cappy :)

Keep on keepin' on, Cappy - that sounds like a plan. Nice to hear that this January is far better than last January for you!

Hi Cappy

Hang in there you seem to have a plan and you know now that time is the healer. Was going to get tjhe bike out the shed and do some cycling but now remember it was the cycling that made my knee worse which resulted in the hip replacement the last time.
Sods Law
I could also do with losing a bit weight who doesn't jusy be careful with these exercises.

Agreed. You've done well, Cappy. I still think you need a bit of sunshine, though, to get back that joie de vie you were missing a few weeks ago.

I'll just be glad when I've had No 2 done now - only 3 weeks to go. My sunshine trip ends on Wednesday and then it will be back to the cold and damp, pre-ops and then the big day !

Cappy

This says it all.

Whilst the journey is not quite over, you have come a long long way.
