Doin' great, Cappy!!!!

Hi Cappy, great to hear from you. Sounds like real progress!

Of course you are tired. You had two major surgeries not that long ago. Easy does it!

Hi Roger

Do you still have any discomfort or are both hips now smooth and trouble free?

I have no discomfort in my hips at all. When I have been overdoing it I still get a bit of muscle pain. I still get stiffness and pain in the small of my back when I stand up. It passes in a few seconds but I still hope that when I am fitter it will go.

What ROM do you have for everyday chores like putting on socks, picking stuff up from the floor etc.?

My ROM is improving but not fantastic. My abduction is around 40 degrees - the physio reckons I'll get to 60. I can now lace up shoes for the first time in years. I still have to contort a bit for socks but that too is improving. I am concentrating on stretching exercises rather than strength ones.

Any significant difference between the 2 hips?

My right hip (the first one done) is weaker than my left. I have no idea why. The physio reckons that it will sort itself out in due course. I struggle with glute strength / balance issues, putting trousers on while standing up for example. It'll come, I'm sure.

As you'll see from this thread I found the recovery from the second operation more difficult. But it's all short term. I'm at 12 weeks now and fine - looking forward to the lifestyle that my new hips will bring.

Apologies for all the questions but you understand my interest, I'm sure.

No worries, ask away. Happy to help.

Hi Cappy

Thanks for the response. I'm impressed - you are obviously doing really well. It gives me great encouragement before I get my second one replaced in February.

I also get pain in the lower back after being seated for a while but it goes after a few steps.

I can do socks, just, but picking things off the floor is still difficult. I'm OK if I can hold onto something; I'm still concerned about violating the 90 degree rule.

I'm getting more problems from my old hip now than the new one.

I just hope I can do as well with my second replacement as you have done. :thumb:

Roger
Difficulties with socks etc when the other hip starts to deteriorate sounds pretty familiar to me

Cappy

You seem to be doing brilliantly. I presume you are now not using any sticks or crutches etc. is that correct?

In any event, what a success!!! I'm looking forward to next year with renewed optimism. (spelling?)

regards

Dave

Dave,

I do still use a stick when I get tired. I am determined to train myself to walk properly so the stick helps at the end of the day. I anticpate having it for another couple of weeks.

You got to love the picture you have posted !!

You seem to be doing just great. I'm glad to hear that. I probably should have done the same and kept using mine, I get to the point if I'm doing a lot in a day that the limp sets in. Great that you are determined to get yourself trained to walk properly.

Keep it up !!

Hi Cappy

Gald to hear everything is going hunkie dorie and that new avatar is an absolute stoater.
Hope you weren't standing in front of the mirror for that one. :th_heehee:

Billy

:hysterical: Good one, Billy!!!

Lol! At Billy's remarks on your latest avatar (although I have some ex-inlaws who could have posed for it.... :wink1:).

Great to read how well you are doing Cappy and the strength and determination you are giving to your recovery.
You have much respect from me! :thumb:

Evening all.

Just a quick update from me. This week saw my three month anniversary of my second replacement. I feel that I'm doing really well.

I have no pain, barring slight lower back discomfort when I've been sitting for a while. # of daily pills: zero!

I still feel I have a fair amount of work to do on my glute strength and my rom and I have booked a physiotherapy session for a couple of weeks time just to make sure I'm on the straight and narrow!

My stick is still in the back of my car - "just in case". I am going to the gym 5 times per week and generally feel good.

Hope you're all enjoying your Sunday.

Wow Cappy, you are doing just great! Hope your new avatar isn't a reflection of how you are feeling :th_heehee:! Keep up the good work!

Way to go Mister! Still very early days you know. After doing both hips, I think you should be really impressed with your progress. I sure am! Glad you stopped by!

Good to hear your doing so well matey.

Hi Cappy

Sounds like you are doing really well. It must make the trauma of two ops in quick succession and the many weeks of post op recovery seem well worth it now. I just hope I can report such excellent progress after No 2 - watch this space around May next year!

Do make sure you don't wear out the new hardware prematurely, though. All that work in the gym . . . . .

Hello Cappy,

So glad to hear how well you are doing. Wow, going to the gym 5 days a week, you must be feeling well.

Keep it up and wishing you the best in your continued progress.
