All the best at work cappy and mind and find a nice comfy seat with decent support.

Gym membership starts again on Tuesday - I will just be doing my physio exercises plus a bit of cycling.

Next thing on the agenda is to lose the extra pounds I've put on post surgery - and then lose the ones I put on pre surgery!

All great news, Cappy! Keep us posted on how things go at the gym. I still have a few pounds to lose from when I was pregnant with my 16 year old! I still have a few weeks of restrictions left and then I am thinking of joining the local gym to do some swimming (I think I will be cleared for that after the restrictions). But mainly I am dying to soak in the hot tub!!!! :yes 4:

All the best at work Cappy. :thumb:
I know it must be tempting to want to rush things after having so many things you found difficult to do for so long, but please don't go overdoing it (I did that...a bit.... ). You have plenty of time to heal and enjoy life with your 2 new hips, so if it feels a bit much keeping to the schedule you have set yourself, don't forget you can scale it back a bit. :wink1:

Well, here we are; two days back at work and now a day off

Work has gone really well but I am jiggered! Haven't been to the gym yet - that's tomorrow morning. It is only getting back to some sort of normality that I can really appreciate the benefits of the surgery - I feel great.

However, when I stood on the scales this morning I was (not very) shocked to find that I was nearly 17 stone - 13 stone is my fighting weight! So, now that I can get to the gym again, the challenge is on.

The challenge is this. By this time next year I will be at my target weight of 13 stone. This should also help with my high blood pressure. I owe it to myself and my new bionics. So, watch this space!

What would life be like if we could see the soul of each person rather than what we wear on the outside?

Cappy

Its good to hear that the return to work went well. I know how you feel about being jiggered. When I returned on a phased basis after the first hip I was falling asleep in the chair after the evening meal.

Its fantastic that you are feeling great - a new chapter begins.

All the best

Dave

Cappy, I think you will find the weight will go quite quickly. I lost over a stone without trying post op. When you get more mobility it is much easier to burn the calories.

Enjoy your gym workout. Slow and steady at first though.

Ok I give up, I know "Stone" has to do with weight, but what would it mean to lose over a stone without trying? :wink1:

Sorry SL. It's the ol' metric horrors. A stone is 14 lbs or 6.35 kg.

We use metric measurements here in the UK. But as a former US resident I have to admit I find pounds easier to use :secretaea:.

Good news about your work Cappy. I also just learned about the stone thing. I am sure once you are fully recovered and more mobile the pounds will melt away. Good luck. Ok, I have lost 1/2 stone now lol.

Well we are all learning something today, just like being in school. So I guess I would have to say I've loss about 1 1/2 stones since both surgeries. Yippee !!

Glad things are going so well for you Cappy !! Enjoy work and getting back to the gym.

Congratulations Cappy on your amazing progress! I'm tired just reading what you're up to!! I'm back at work too (part-time) and have no energy for exercise at all! I hope that changes soon as I could do with being a bit lighter too!

Keep up the good work!

Hallo, Cappi and Transatlantic friends,

I weigh 175 pounds. I would like to weigh 160 pounds, my weight before I started to be crippled by R hip pain. I suppose we Brits stick to Stones and Pounds because the Stones act as landmarks in the war against fat, as in "I would love to be 11 stones, usually pronounced 'stone'; I would give my ears, both arms and a leg just to reach that target". Actually if you gave those things away you probably would. But in real life the targets are desperately hard to reach.

The torture machines in my gym ask you to input weight and age, and if you do, messages start to flash up saying that heart rate is too high and if you persist you will perish miserably and waste your subscription. So I cheat and put in a lower weight, which seems to keep the machine happy. This way, if I am indeed going to perish, at least I won't know about it.

Seriously, though, we should maybe use this forum to combat obesity, perhaps on the lines of Kilogram Confessors, where we have weekly or monthly weigh ins, with praise and humiliation from fellow members as required. After all, we owe it to our new hips and knees to reduce the amount of loading we are subjecting them to as we move about.

I have an elderly aunt, nearly 90, who had the Grand Slam, two hips and two knees. She never got full benefit from them and moves about now hardly at all, and then only very painfully. If she had not been so overweight, who knows, she might have fared a lot better.

Good luck to you Cappi in your quest. I hope you succeed.

All the best, Alan

I too love the soul pic Cappy. My hubby said he'd like that on our wall.

Good luck with the weight loss. I'm much heavier than I'd like to be and certainly gained weight since my op.....joined Slimming World a few weeks ago and have lost 9 pounds so far - it's coming off but very slowly :sigh: Hope your gym sessions get you moving in the right direction.

Love the soul picture and the "stone" lesson. I am the same stones as before the surgery - which was 2 stones too many then :sigh: Glad to hear that your life is returning to "normal". :yahoo:

Thanks all,

Alan, I like your idea of the Kilogram Confessors! I think I have seen something along those lines on the Social forum. However, all joking aside, we do owe it ourselves to give our shiny new bits the best possible start we can.

I have been to the gym the last two mornings. I get up at 6 and I'm at the gym for 6:30. I am only doing 20 minutes on the bike plus my physio supplied stretches. I will check with me physio on Monday if it's OK to do anything a bit more strenuous.

That's my first week back at work complete - all four mornings of it. Three full days next week. I am tired but find an early night sorts me out OK.

We had our official fireworks display tonight. I have no idea why it's on the 4th rather than the 5th but it's become the norm around here!

You will look like Arnold Swazinigger by the time you get finished in that gym Cappy.
Could do with a bit of gym myself but have been shattered lately as I never really got any holidays, looking forward to Christmas as I am off for nearly a fortnight during the festive season.

Evening all.

This Tuesday will be my 12 week marker, so where are we?

Doing well I think. I am now on no pain meds bar the occasional paracetamol. I have been discharged by the physio, my weight is coming down and I'm now back to full hours at work.

Yesterday I broken link removed: https://runkeeper.com/user/alastairfindlay/activity/59611552 our loch - 1.78 miles in 32 minutes. I'm pleased with that.

I attend the gym every work day and my glute strength is improving. I am working on my flexibility and rom too.

But boy, I'm tired !

Sounds good Cappy.

Do you still have any discomfort or are both hips now smooth and trouble free?

What ROM do you have for everyday chores like putting on socks, picking stuff up from the floor etc.?

Any significant difference between the 2 hips?

Apologies for all the questions but you understand my interest, I'm sure.

Thanks

Roger
