Oh, Cappy.....what a LOVELY castle hotel you have booked!!! I'm sooooo jealous! It sounds like fun. Are you staying in the castle itself? How many nights???

Wonderful news, cappy! You sound like you are doing great and i am very happy for you :thumb: ..... Once i get my walking legs working properly, i'd like to see what it's like to meander around the zoo without worrying about where the next bench will be :dancy:

Thanks Donna.

It's only now that I'm beginning to realise what allowances you build into your life. How to get dressed, how to get into a car - where the next bench is!

Hopefully this will all be behind us soon.

Just one night I'm afraid Jamie - it's the only child free time we could arrange / bribe / cajole.

We do have a castle room. Airth is only about 30 minutes drive from here so we'll be able to make full use of the leisure facilities on Saturday and Sunday. Booked in for dinner too. Can't wait!

Isn't it great to be able to plan trips that include walking? I promised my son a trip to London once I could walk around without pain.....going at half term!

enjoy the hotel

You're right Lisa - it's great to plan. I've booked a full hour Swedish massage at the spa; really looking forward to it.

My physio exercises are still going well and I can feel an improvement almost daily. Tomorrow I am restarting Weight watchers - I did really well to lose weight before my April op and I want it gone again.

I sit on the Children's Panel and I have a case this afternoon so I'm out of here to read my notes again.

Have a good one hippies :thumb:

Well well Cappy you sit on a children's panel I take it that's in you neck of the wood's
Was sitting in front of one today [ you know the score confidentiality is the name of the game ] but all went well.
Do fostering as well Cappy and had to go back to classes as the last children we took were under a section 11 and we were de-registered by Edinburgh Council.

It can be hard doing panel's cappy having to read this information then make the right decision over a short spell.
But hey ho a man's got to do what a man's got to do, sure you get all the support you need from the reporter's. :wink1:

The reporter who looks after our local hearings is tremendous - steers us in the right direction if we're in danger of going "off piste".

Today's hearing was an evening one - unusual. I actually have hearings tomorrow too then that's me until mid-November. Time for a last read through the papers.

Cappy, I checked out your link and am looking into groups in my own area.

Wow! Another side of you Cap! What a wonderful thing to do for these kids in crisis.

My parents were also foster parents Billy. They first adopted me, then my sister then my brother (no relation before the adoptions). Then when I was 9, they started taking in other kids, mostly newborns then toddlers. There were always 6 kids in the house.

They had a total of about 40 kids over the years until times changed and with it came "the pill", abortion, and unwed mothers keeping their babies. My mom said "the pill" put her out of business. She sure loved having her babies around...

Sad thing was, she cried her heart out after each one left. She loved them all as her own. I don't know how she did it really. It breaks my heart just thinking about it :cry4:...

They were such wonderful people....and so are you for doing that :thumb:!

Oh! Well that's that then ......

Me and Cappy could always adopt you as our long lost sister JO and you could come up and do a few children's hearings in Scotland. :th_heehee:

Janet cheers for the compliments me and her indoors have done it for 23 years now. It can be very rewarding but it does have it's moments.
I am afraid the invention of Mobiles has changed the goalposts completely and children are put under pressure by their birth families to keep in touch and messages the children don't want the carers to see are delated which makes the job that bit harder.

It can be very difficult. The panel used to be for those who had committed minor crimes. Now it tends to be those who have suffered abuse - emotional, physical, sexual or a combination of those.

Behind many of the cases is abuse of alcohol or other drugs. I recently saw two heroin addicts who had a daughter. They truly loved their daughter - but not as much as heroin. It is very sad.

Billy, I take my hat off to you and the mrs. Fostering is very demanding - well done.

Onto matters more cheerful. I have managed to get tickets to see the Overtones next Thursday - hope I can get away with just taking a stick.

Cappy, how are you walking lately? Do your legs feel the same length? I have been on a cane and weightbearing for a little over a week now. I am leaning pretty heavily on the cane and find it very difficult to walk without limping. I'm hoping to get my gait training pt order soon. Have fun on your outings!

Hi Donna, I'm still reliant on one crutch. I can walk without it but my gait is poor and it's quickly painful, so I don't.

Like you I've only been weight bearing for a week so I'm quite happy to give it time. My physio gave me exercises which concentrated on strengthening my glutes and I'm beginning to feel the benefit.

Hope you enjoy the overtones cappy and you might be able to squeeze a couple of bevvies in to the bargain.

Billy

Morning hipsters! Hope everyone's well.

I had a busy day yesterday. Physio appointment in the morning - she thinks I'm doing well but am not quite ready for return to work. I'm a bit surprised about that - I now feel well enough that I feel that I'm taking advantage. Meds know best.

Pain relief is now negligible. A couple of paracetamol per day - great! Glute strength is building nicely and yesterday I got into a car like a normal person.

The Overtones concert was last night. I risked it and took my collapsible stick rather than a crutch and was fine. Went for a pre-theatre meal (Billy, went to Di Maggio's in West Nile Street) and really enjoyed it.

Sore and stiff today but getting there.
