Yup! Non-weight bearing is a test of strength and endurance for sure! But, if I could manage for six weeks, fractured femur and all, anyone can! Seriously, not to downplay the frustration, it is not easy...

I found this forum two months after returning from rehab and it was my saving grace. I didn't want to read or watch the TV so I was constantly on my laptop. Get a hobby Cap to make the time go by OR come pass the time with us here on BoneSmart.

It does get better and it will pass Cap. Hang in there...:cat-kittyandsmiley:

So gad to hear that you are getting out tonight - it will do you a world of good.

I know what you mean about the confusion on weight bearing! The surgeon wrote "weight of leg.". His assistant wrote "weight bearing as tolerated" on my discharge papers (which i am ignoring). The pt said i could put my foot down on tne ground but weight bear on my hands on the walker. The nurse told me to just toe touch. Maybe i should just stay in bed :what:

It will do you the world of good to get out. A curry mmmmmm how are you going to elevate that leg when you are in the toilet all day tomorrow. :loll:

Had a great evening. One of my pals collected me, another dropped me home. I ignored the pints of Kingfisher on offer and stuck with my sparkling water. Great curry too - you know what Glasgow's like for curry Billy!

Tired and sore today but it was worth it to see a bit of civilization.

Hallo, Cappi,

There I was thinking you only wanted a new pair of working hips so that you could use them to take you to places where you could get up to all sorts of mischief. Then you tell us that there are actually places of refreshment in Glasgow where you can spend an evening taking non alcoholic beverages.

This comes as something of a surprise to me because my son-in-law, who hails from a respectable Scottish place called Dingwall, assured me that there was such a thing as Weegie Airline, and he had the brochure to prove it. Apparently one of the regulations points out that "Smoking and Drinking are compulsory on this flight". Then there are references to things like Iron Brew and Lorne sausage, which, I'm afraid are entirely lost on me.

It's good to hear that you are out and about again. Well done, and let's have plenty more of it.

All the best, Alan

Good to hear you had a great night out. Sometimes its just what you need. Not sure that I'd have been able to abstain from a beer with the curry - they just go so well!!

Have to agree with Lisa on that one sitting having a couple of Stella's just now going down an absolute treat in my wife's old aunt's beer jug.
Wife commented that's an ugly looking thing it is probably worth something.
So when I finished the beer turned it upside down to do my cheap as chips check.
Mmmmm MADE IN JAPAN can't give up work just yet then. :skeptical:

Irn Bru is a wonderful collection of colourings and additives designed to make children hyperactive. Also drunk to aid a hangover!.

Lorne sausage is square sliced sausage and is lovely in a roll. In fact a hangover is often greeted with a bottle of Irn Bru and a "piece and square".

For sure Cappy--things will be so much better in two weeks time! I know I am going nuts--though I don't have the discomfort--I am unable to tackle the yard work and the golf course or anything fun yet. Boring!! So--we wait--just a bit longer---

I do have envy at the curry--yum--even without the beer!

I have uncemented but have been weightbearing from the first day--go figure--either it is necessary or not, you would think??

Hi Cappy

I'm only just etting round to reading all 12 pages of your recovery story - it makes interesting, and sometimes very funny, reading.

I'm glad to hear you finally feeling a bit more positive. What a journey!!!!

By the way, loving the Scottish education you've been providing!!!!

Curry is marvellous. A couple of beers makes it even better  Not sure about Billy's family heirloom though!

I have heard of many surgeons allowing weight bearing from day 1 - there seems to be lots of different opinions over what is "right".

Three weeks and a day out now and feeling a lot better. As I said before the recovery seems longer and harder than last time round but I'm getting there. I'm getting a reasonable sleep and have been able to cut my meds back.

The main problem is boredom. Also, we've been catching the tail end of Katia for the last couple of days so I haven't been able to get out for a walk. Don't fancy getting blown off my crutches. It's much better today though so I'll get some fresh air.

I've put a picture of my scar (sans bahookie) on the sticky up there ^

Glad to hear that you are doing better. I see that you are using crutches. I am still on the walker. I got both from the hospital, but they didn't teach me how to use te crutches as i was not very stable before leaving the hospital (kept feeling lightheaded). They showed me how to use one crutch to navigate stairs. I used crutches as a kid - but don't really remember much. I'm thinking of switching over as it might make me feel more moble - do you think? Maybe i'll look for instructions on youtube.

That's bound to keep the wean's away from the fireplace.

Don't tell them Cappy
