"Hoarders (makes me want to clean house big time!!), Toddlers and Tiaras (some really awful parenting!) and others I am ashamed to mention"

I hope this works. I am getting a little bored so I thought I would share with you a video of me from about a year pre surgery. I am practicing for the world championships (not my best but it is practice and I am over 50!) There are so many things in this form that will be off limits for a long time to come :frown: I am practising so I can hopefully soon show you a video of me postop!!

Ohhhh I could open the link, anybody else having the same problem. It might be my iPad sometimes it's quirky on videos etc

Couldn't!! If I start crying now its part of my day Noooo I'm laughing still!!

Y'all a bunch of junk watching TV hehehehehe love it!

I think I fixed it - had the wrong privacy settings.

Wow that's really impressive Plinej!

How long have you been doing this? Once completely healed will you be able to go back to this activity sorry had to ask, I would think yes just not sure. That looked really hard.

Sarah, I am sure I will be able to do some. I am thinking this form will be off limits for a long time though as it has a lot of hip stress action in it. I have been doing this on and off for 35 years! This is how my husband and I met ( he was my teacher!) and we will be married 30 years next November! I am hoping to get back to teaching in the next few months and maybe work on my weapons form - it is more hip friendly. I may post a video of that also!

Morning Plinej,

Thats a cute tale about marrying your teacher! I'm really impressed at your balance and strength in that video. I've never done anything like that before. My baby brother back in England really got into kick boxing and won some awards, he did it as a joke but quickly realized he was good at it. One main thing it taught him a lot of self discipline he had a lot of pent up anger...interesting!! Yes please post other video it's fun to watch.

Impressive videos plinej!!! You look awesome :thumb: Can't wait to see the first post-op video

Oh my goodness that one was fabulous! Lots of discipline you can see that. Just the slapping on the hip in beginning would be enough me sorry couldnt resist a joke this morning.

It's funny you mention the fear of dislocation that's my big mental fear, then again since having the surgery I have flt very secure in the hip location, no fear with bends etc today Pt gal had me lay on my in operated side and do a leg lift to measure my range, oooooooo that was first time on my side and it felt good I will ask tomorrow if I can sleep this way with a pillow between my legs. My point is my hip feels completely solid. My fear is stumbling because I'm clutzy and right now it's that step part you would naturally do if you were to go and trip I worry I couldn't do that step to save me, hope that made sense. All in time :)

Hey your videos are more fun than watching the Kadashians LOL

Very impressive!! I love the story of how you met your husband too. 30 years--that's something to celebrate!

Dorothy

Hey Plinej -

Saw both of your videos - very impressive ! I'll bet by this time next year you'll be back in that condition & form just fine. We'll all look forward to that one year celebration video !

Congratulations on 30 years ! I was going to question your teacher's morals for courting one of his students, but I suppose after 30 years it's obvious his intentions were honorable ! My wife and I had our 35th last spring (we got married when we were 12).

Keep on healing - maybe log your weekly abilities and improvements instead of daily - it's more rewarding. Consider hiding the remote to the television and pick up your favorite kind of book - a lot better for the psyche than anything that's on TV these days !

Happy New Year - thanks for sharing your progresses - they are inspirational to all of us.

Kevin

side note ... when I said weekly log, I meant in your own head ... please continue your regular posts here on the forum daily ... we all like them !

Kevin, thanks for the suggestions - I am getting into kind of a rut!!

Had my last PT visit today - good news, bad news (ok, probably only bad in my eyes!)
Good news - my range of motion and muscle strength I got an A+!!! She gave me permission to start standing on my op. leg and working my good leg. My measurements on the foot slide was 70deg. and the side leg thing was 27 deg. I could hold the straight leg lift for 10 sec/rep which impressed her!
Bad news. - she had me walk a few steps without support and I still have a limp. Also, my gait is a little wider than normal - but my pace was good and balanced. I am thinking I really need to find a way to walk more. The walking form chair to kitchen and around the house doesn't really give me much room to work on my gait. I am doing great on the exercises though doing 3 sets a day with very little discomfort! As for walking - snow and ice make it impossible here and I also tend to suffer from SAD this time of year so my motivation to go outside is really low. This weekend, I plan on making my family take me out more (they have been very busy this week with work, etc)

Question for you pet owners ( this may sound strange - I am not comparing my lovely grandbaby to a pet:th_heehee:) My eldest will be home tomorrow with our first granddaughter who is about 14 months. I so want to hold her (I know picking her up will be out) but I am hoping for some lap time. I know that she will probably be squirmy so I was wondering if you out there with lap dogs(Sarah?) find it uncomfortable - I am thinking I can handle it. My cat is sitting on my lap but she is much more predictable and smaller than a toddler.

First of all plinej, let me say that if I am able to get up off the floor as fast as you ever again, I will be thrilled :th_heehee::th_heehee::th_heehee:! Great films and great story!

Please be patient about the limp! You are only 2 weeks post op! It can take a few months to stop limping and your therapist should have told you that. That is nothing to beat yourself up for.

As for holding the baby, just try it! Have someone close by in case you have to hand her back, but certainly you can hold her sitting down. If it hurts you, by all means have someone take her from you. DO NOT lift her to someone though...you will not break that easily :th_heehee:...

Be proud of yourself for what you are accomplishing. Walking is great, but the walking that you are doing around the house is plenty for two weeks post op. You don't want to over do it.

Be gentle with yourself plinej...you are doing just fine :thumb:!

Plinej - as for holding your granddaughter - you might try having her sit on your unoperated side and explain to her that you have a big owie on the other side so she and you both have to be careful not to bump it. At 14 months I thinks she should be able to understand. If she is still too squirmmy then maybe some side by side activity with her on the right side - reading stories, or playing with toys, or an age appropriate game ..... I envy you having your granddaughter close by - mine lives all the way across the country so I rarely get to see her.

As the others said - you're only 2 weeks out from surgery - patience dear friend is the name of the game ..... I'll look forward to hearing from you a year from now - bet you're back to "fighting trim" by then ;)

Wow Plinej, just caught up on your thread a little and watched your videos, so impressive! and with time and patience I am sure you will return to form, well at least some of it short term..

You are doing fantastically well at 2 weeks, I was sleeping most of the time - still nap heaps even with a full nights sleep.

And, your discipline and determination shines through with your exercises - we will have an amazing story of Plinej one day :) Sandy
