As a former snorer, I can attest that those Breath-Right strips DO help.
I will second that! I've used them since they first came out - about 25 years now, I think, and I cannot even imagine trying to sleep without them. My family are all cursed with very small nasal airways that close at the slightest opportunity. Asda (Walmart) had a special offer on recently. Three boxes of 10 for £10 which was about 40% off! So my drawer is now stacked with them! I shan't have to buy any more for the next 18 months at least! :th_heehee:

Hoping everyone is having a wonderful start to the New Year! We have a blizzard coming our way for today and tomorrow so my wonderful family is already getting cozy for the day and tomorrow. Plan to spend tomorrow watching the Rose Parade and all the Bowl Games!

My wonderful granddaughter is helping with my PT!! I found I can hold her no problem even standing. She discovered my cane and has been stealing it and practicing imitating my cane use so I have to walk across the room to get it (OK'd by my PT). Is making me braver and I am starting to take steps without it! Still not recommend to go too far as my gait still needs work and am not ready to give it up for longer than a few steps. Bless her heart to help her grandma!! Hubby and I babysat last night so my daughter and son-in-law could go in and watch the Cherry drop (a thing here - we are, I think, the cherry capital of the world so they have a big Cherry that drops at midnight! So, hubby and I had a nice quiet night at home and he fixed us a wonderful surf and turf meal (steak, lobster, and baked potato). I had a few sips of wine with dinner - darn Coumadin and Norco(which I am down to 2 a day). Would have loved a whole glass to toast the new year!

Oh, SIL went out to the store and brought back a box of Breath Right strips for hubby so we shall see!! He claims they don't work!

Judy

Judy -

That wine & Norco combination is making you delirious. There is no way you appear old enough to have grand children.

Glad you had a good NYE. Wife and I had a similar nice meal & beverage (I covered for you), watched a movie and were in bed by 9 pm. Ah the joys of growing old.

Good luck with the Breath Right strip trial. If he won't try them, you could try sneaking one on him while he is asleep. If that doesn't work, you can put 2 or 3 of them vertically over his mouth in the closed position. Good luck.

Happy New Year.

Kevin

Sent my hubby to a sleep clinic. - result, he came back with a C-PAC machine... Best thing ever, never snores now and sleep apnea a thing of the past.. his machine is very, very quiet and doesn't bother me at all.. If I do hear the gentle breathing at least he reminds me is still alive :)

Kevin, you are too funny! thank you for the complement - don't know if I posted but when I was in the hospital they took my walker away and replaced it with one that said "youth" (I am only 60 inches tall!!). I may take your suggestion on the strips but I think the option of wearing the strips or me poking him all night he will pick the strip!

Sandy, My husband went to the sleep clinic years ago and no sleep apnea - however they found that when he slept on his back he did not get good sleep but would he listen!!! I am glad your husband found the answer.

:hysterical: Thanks for the good laugh Kevin!

Kevin you are too funny!

Morning Judy,

Did the strips work?

Morning, Sarah!

Yes, the strips seemed to have worked! He put one on, some snoring to start but I think that was mainly a "see they don't work! snore" because the rest of the night was quiet!!! Hopefully, it will be a trend because it seems he definitely prefers that to poking!

Yay! For the strips :thumb:

May they continue to give you some sleep Judy :yes 4:

Snoring husband issues ..... since you won't be using that extra pillow under your legs anymore, it sounds like a no-brainer .. !!

(oops, can I joke like that on here ?)

Me it is the Snoring wife the keeps me on my third of the bed. I am also her pillow at times:hysterical:

Strips work, as does sleeping on your side, new bed (select comfort air mattress) foam pillows. The cpap sits in the closet. I was told to bring it to the hospital just in case.

Keep the Grand daughter working for you, She is making you move about the house. Watch out when it gets quite. Wish you and your family a Happy New Year. Tell your Son in Law Thanks for serving in the CG. They are a Good and Honorable Service. A Radio Call away when needed.:thumb:

Well, both my daughters are on their way home after a 2 day blizzard! All the schools are closed here but today appears to be better and Daughter#2 texted me from the half way point (2 1/2 hrs on the road ) to say the roads weren't great but they were making it ok.

My 3 week report! The grandbaby workouts must be paying off because I feel great today! Upped my reps on all exercises to 15 with no discomfort and did my first treadmill walk today. Hubby was a little not sure but I took it very slow and it has bars to hold on to so I went 1/4 of a mile (10min.) to test the waters and all went well. Muscles were a little fatigued at the end (amazing considering I used to run 3-5mi/day!!!) May try again this afternoon if I still feel great! I also have started to take a few more steps without the cane (I carry the cane, though just in case). I am noticing that my good leg still seems to carry more weight so I am working on consciencely making my operated side do more work. I guess old habits are hard to break! I am also pretty much off all pain meds (still taking 1 norco at bed time but I really don't think I need it!)

Excellent report, Judy! I'm so glad you are doing well with your recovery - isn't it wonderful how the little ones can lift spirits, improve energy, and bring out the kid in all of us

Deb, aint it the truth! When walkers, TEDS, etc. can make us feel like old invalids nothing like a refreshing dose of youth!! She was such a joy and helped me get over a few of my fears and realize I could do more than I thought!

Hi Judy,

Love the granddaughter tales and yes I agree too she did wonders for your spirit and confidence...love,love,love!

Good news on the hubby nose strips too!

I'm glad you had a fabulous day! Sorry about your weather that sounds icky!

Bye for now....

xxooxx

Ah! Judy, those fears.... I am sure it is what we imagine in our minds Is much worse than the reality. What appears on the surface to be quite perilous and scary is often quite benign.. Wow, you are doing so good with your workouts, fantastic!

Hi Judy (so nice to have a name!),
Wow! So many great things happening for you since I last checked in. i'm sure you will see your abilities progess at a surprising rate going forward. Seems like big thrusts forward can be common. So hopefully in the not too distant future you will post new videos of your new martial arts achievements. The video was awesome and I concur with everyone else that you do not look like a woman with grand children. Good luck with gait issues - I find it takes alot of concentration. You might also find the recent "squeezing walnuts" conversation on Charlie Cyborg's thread entertaining as you work on conquering the limp.

Anita, so nice to hear from you. I assume all is going well with you. I am reaching the point that I don't have much new to report which is a good thing, I think! I started the treadmill and I think that is improving my gait already. As for squeezing walnuts - those are my weakest muscles (had posterior MI) so engaging those muscles is one thing I am working on! I think some of my gait issues was due to a small amount of swelling left making my gait wide. I have my first post op appointment next Tues. and I am hoping to impress the OS (he has been a little sarcastic about my martial arts, could just be me though).
Judy

Your surgeon is probably just feeling threatened because you can probably whip his butt with one karate move! ha ha! :-)

Seriously, you are doing SO well!!!! Keep up the good work!!!!!!!!!

Dorothy

Checking in! Well, I am down to not using the cane around the house:thumb: Still don't have a lot of confidence so I still take several steps before I come close to evening things out. Did 3/4 mi. on treadmill yesterday - trying to up my walking as that is one area I feel I am way behind. Exercises going very well and (drum roll!) I am losing weight!!! I normally gain 10lb over the holidays and during those long winter months but I am down about 8lb since surgery. I think the Coumadin is still messing with my appetite a little. I am at the impatient stage where improvement is slowing down - still have surgery discomfort and limitations so the jury is still out on if I feel that much better than pre-op - I wasn't suffering as much as some of you thanks to the hip injections but I was very limited. Can't wait for the restrictions to be lifted and get some confidence in using this new hip (still a little afraid I will turn wrong and tweak something in a bad way!!) My appointment with the OS is Tues. so hoping for some new freedoms then (like driving, no TEDs, no Coumadin, new exercises). I am thinking my OS will be unhappy I haven't been getting out more. Darn cold, nasty weather. Was tempted to go to our school with hubby today and work on some paperwork but couldn't face having to spend over half the day there. What a baby I can be! Can you tell I am getting a little cabin fever, stir crazy?:rolleyespink:
