I need your real name..please every time I type Plinej I think to myself what is your name grrrrr!,,,, please hahaha

You will be fine with baby, if it feels uncomfortable use a pillow on your hip side or lay over your lap this will soften just incase you have sensitive spots. I do find in Miles is playful I use the pillow.

Do not panic on your walking and the limp. I had my post surgery appointment today and the PA was saying walking over time will correct this, use cane or crutch for support, I was told to practice my heel to toe form and the dreaded tuck my bum in mode. Part of the limping is muscle weakness plus in my case protective mode from before the surgery by leaning over and limping it helped with the pain. You will be fine you have such a lovely posture and your sport-health-training will definitely help this along quickly. I have awful posture, however I am making a genuine effort.

Hope you can find somewhere to drive to where you can do some decent walking, maybe a mall that's not insanely busy? Wait could you go to your school? Or maybe find a gym that has one of those indoor walking tracks and maybe ask them if you could walk for a few weeks without joining a club, maybe they could work with you based on your surgery. Can you tell i have a phobia to joining gyms hahahaha!

Plinej I did just write an update about my post surgery dr visit on my thread. No more Coumadin for me and about to burn TEd socks :)

Thanks to all for the grand baby suggestions! My daughter and the baby lived with us this summer while our son-in-law was in basic training with the Coast Guard so I got very attached and miss her big time!

Sarah, My name is Judy - been meaning to sign it that way but keep forgetting! I do think our local high school has a walking track that is open to the public if I can have one of my girlfriends help me check it out. We also have a small local gym which has elliptical and bikes that I might check out after my OS appointment on the 10th. We live in a teeny, tiny town so most options are over 30min away and I can't drive yet. Hoping for some outpatient PT (doc said he doesn't normally prescribe it although he said he could make an exception for me due to my special circumstance) . I am so glad to hear you can kiss those TEDs and Coumadin goodbye! I cannot wait for that day. I do think now that it is pointed out to me I can work on fixing the limp. My leg muscles are quite strong but my butt, hip muscles are another story!

Judy

You look like a Judy!

On the walking thing, it really was my 3rd going Into my 4th week my confidence had improved, sincerely I would say my first major walk was just Christmas Eve, then that Monday Miles came home, I'm sure I mentioned this that first Tuesday morning walking him early was terrifying, but it pushed me again for more confidence. I feel once you start walking a little more distance outside not in house you will blossom very quickly.

One other thought I probably could have gone out walking sooner, I just remember taking that 3rd week as a lazy week, my first week home and alone and I did get a little sad and blahhhhh but jumped into the smut TV and enjoyed napathons!! Once I made decision to get Miles back this forced me to push myself which is a good thing!

I learned from my PT yesterday that I shouldn't be sleeping with a pillow under my knees which I have been doing for comfort. Said that doctors want you to sleep with legs straight to stretch the muscles and bending the knees cause them to contract. So last night I said goodbye to the pillow and ended up with a more uncomfortable nights sleep! Anybody know a good cure for snoring - hubby is starting to really interfere with my good nights sleep:hairpulling:

Just when I was starting to feel like I was 80 my PT gave me a great compliment! She asked the ages of my children (27,25,19) and she said I looked too young to have children that age!!! I feel young again!!

My goal today, with the help of my younger 2, is to toddler proof the house again! It is amazing how much accumulates on the floor when you can't bend down or pick up things easily!

Judy

Judy - It is amazing the amount of things that make it to the floor while you're recovering. :rolleyespink:

I had no idea that you should not be sleeping with a pillow under your knees while on your back. That is the only way I can sleep on my back, luckily I have made it to my stomach for sleeping (my preferred way) but do still sometimes lay on my back a lot when insomnia kicks in. And the snoring...if you find some help for your hubbies snoring let me know, my BF's will rattle the windows some nights!!

Totally have to agree with your therapist, you do not look like someone with children that age. You look wonderful!!

Happy New Year and keep up the great work!

Good to hear you are doing well. Keven made the statement that he made the mistake of returning to work to early. He learned patience. Some thing I need to learn real Fast.

Happy New Year
May you prosper in it

Hi Judy, Happy New Year! Just caught up with the video of you doing a martial art. Wow! What is it? I was amazed how it reminded me of Tai Chi Chuan on speed! A lot of the same moves as what we do. You look great! I was practising the form today and so pleased to find I could get through the first section (which has no kicks) for the first time since THR nearly 5 weeks ago. Patience is the name of the game now.

Jane! I saw you do Tai Chi. I have always wanted to try it so now may be a good time to check it out. I will be watching your practice so I would love updates on how it is going. All the hip rotation in Taekwondo kind of scares me but I have been doing it for so long I am hoping that on some level I will be doing it again!

You are young Judy!

Only suggestion on the snoring husband is a different bedroom hahaha! I'm in cheeky form tonight watch out.

Wooohoooo sending you lots of love!

Ha ha, re snoring husband: mine moved to spare room before I came back from hospital as he thought, quite rightly, that I would be thrashing around trying to get comfortable and take up too much room surrounding myself with pillows. He's currently snoring in solitary splendour. So you could try that...

Snoring husband issues ..... since you won't be using that extra pillow under your legs anymore, it sounds like a no-brainer .. !!

(oops, can I joke like that on here ?)

Oh, Kevin! You always brighten my day!!:hysterical: Believe me, the thought has crossed my mind!

Kevin, you are a devil :snork:!

Sorry you are dealing with snoring Judy. I think it's worse when you early pre-op as sleeping on the best of nights isn't that good. Have you tried having your hubby wear those Breath Right strips? They do work - if you can get him to wear them.

Jaycey, that was going to be one of my suggestions to him! He can be so stubborn sometimes. Actually the early days after surgery I was sleeping great! - could have been the Norco, but now that I am feeling better my sleep is getting worse. I have gone from having a comfy pillow under my knees to sleeping straight leg (PT advice) which has caused me some mid night discomfort from the muscles stretching.

He can be so stubborn sometimes.

I have one of those too :th_heehee:.

Can you do some hamstring stretches while sitting in a chair? I found that helped get my muscle tone back.

As a former snorer, I can attest that those Breath-Right strips DO help. They also helped me (the snorer) not wake up as often during the night - so you might try that as a selling point.

For me personally, a little weight loss helps my snoring go away. IF that's the issue in your hubby's case, it's always a delicate issue to raise with a spouse. The pillow idea might be easier.

One last point - I'm at week 6+ post-op now, and not sleeping as well as I was the first 3-4 weeks either. I suspect do to having all of the narcotics out of my system ? Back to my normal "fair at best" sleep patterns now.

Kevin

Kevin, weight is definitely not an issue with hubby - he is super fit! I think he has a tendency toward allergies and likes his glass or two of wine or beer in the evening before bed (we have a vineyard and sell grapes to the local wineries and he has a hobby of home-brewing wine and beer so not likely to give that up!) He is a very good wine maker and beer brewer so all our family and friends love their Christmas gifts each year:xmasgrin: I will definitely try to persuade him to use the stripes - he might go for it if it means he can sleep on his back with out me poking him. So strange, he loves sleeping on his back and shouldn't and I hate it and have too!

Morning Judy,

Another option I have a friend who uses those ear plugs, she travels lot and is a very light sleeper she loves them, they are the small ear bud types. I'm not sure if could wear them might be worth a try though. Yes it ironic your hubby likes sleeping on his back and you don't but have too, not long to go and you can go back to your side. Very early this morning I tried my side my non operated side and it felt a little odd in my other side, didn't hurt jus felt odd I did put a pillow between my knees and curled up by bring my operated leg onto the pillow. It's been a while maybe that's why it felt odd. If I had planned it that way I would have got pillows placed behind me.

Hope you are having a lovely NY's eve day!
