THR Sissie's recovery

A couple of years ago, I spent 2 weeks in Anchorage, Alaska visiting my son and his family. My son had recently had ankle surgery and was non-weightbearing. The hospital there issued him some crutches that looked just like the usual aluminum type. Except his had these little drop down ice claws on the bottom of them. They were the neatest thing. That kid of mine was plowing through snow piles and crutching his way over icy pathways and driveways and never slipped in the slightest. I think I have a picture of the claws. If I can find it, I'm going to post it here for you all.

Found the pictures. It wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be. The first photo is with the claws retracted. The second is with one of the claws flipped into place. I'm told that these add-ons are available in medical supply stores in the "cold" states. It might be worth checking out.

darn! very clever design, and just what our northern friends could use. Makes me glad I live in Floriduh!
I hope everyone had a restful night:sleep: My cats were brats and woke me up several times chasing each other over my head. Most of the sofa cushions were on the floor this morning. Those kitties may be banished tonight! And I dreamed Barack and Michelle had a new baby and I was working in NICU and the baby was so cute (a boy) but he was only 12 hours old and was trying to walk and I couldn't keep him in his crib.

I'm going for a bike ride today, 8 miles on a lovely trail to a Panera's for lunch, then 8 miles back. Will be my longest ride since surgery, but an easy one. :bicycle1:

Grayson chased Jo-Riley all night and disturbed my sleep---guess who will probably sleep all day now? Not me, I'm going bike riding.

Well as we all know our animals are the true rulers of our homes, as I type and my cat, Shane climbs over my head. Of course Grayson will sleep now, did you expect anything else, it is her right.:kittykiss: Good Luck on your ride today and have fun, slow and steady

darn!, Thanks for the info, Amazon has them for 8.67 each, and I just bought a pair, as I have at leat till 12/18 with 50% weight bearing and then will have to still use at least 1 crutch for unspecified time, that is a lifesaver

Sissy,

I love checking in the morning to see what your daily adventure is going to be. Thank you!

You're right, I suspect the furry rascals will be snoozing all day to just save their energy for tonight. What it tells me is that your household must be getting back to "normal". Yay for you!!

bellaroma Very fine ride, thanks! After riding to Panera's and having lunch on the terrace, where we watched cattle wading in the water of the pasture pond, I was walking back to the bike when I suddenly realized that my left hip felt exactly like my right hip! Just perfect! And this was the first time it has felt that way. And then we rode back, and still perfect. After driving the 6 miles home with a short stop to put my bike and rack back in my storage unit, my hip was a little tight, and I used that excuse to get out an ice pack and stretch out on the sofa and read all afternoon:tada:

Now feeling wonderful and planning to go hiking tomorrow.

Aside from the cattle, we saw a beautiful Red-tailed Hawk.

DeDe yep, they slept all day. Two of them may be banished to the living room tonight.

Oh Sissy, I think I have a tear of joy in my eye for you. I am so glad that we were all here for your first forgotten hip moment. So tell us what kinds of great things are on your agenda this weekend?

Beth, I am glad the pictures helped you out. No slip sliding for you.

Tammy

Thanks, y'all! I'm glad you fellow warriors are here to celebrate with me. I'm the first in my gang to get a new hip, so nobody here really knows what I mean---but you do:cheers: Your day is coming!

Tomorrow I'll be hiking after going to the farmers' market, and Sunday I'll be back doing river patrol at the park for the first time since:SUNsmile:

What's everyone doing this weekend? All the overdoers will be taking it easy and pampering themselves, I hope :kittykiss:

Sissy, somehow picturing cows wading through water in Florida gives me a bad feeling... gators, snakes :yikes:

Sounds like a wonderful plan for the weekend. I think we're going to lay low. Looks like we're on an every three day or so excursion schedule.

No big plans. If my hip is calmed down, I might go do a short walk, but otherwise taking it easy. We are getting together with friends on Sunday, but they are coming over and we are ordering pizza. That way if I need to rest and elevate I can still snorf down the pizza and beer

Congratulations on your forgotten hip moment!! That is stellar :yahoo: I can't wait for mine. I was already eyeing the cross country skis at REI, so I can tell I am feeling better. Just looking, I promise!

Yummy! Pizza and beer....dinner of Warriors. I have recently become addicted to veggie pizza with extra banana peppers on it.

Oooh, must have pizza from Antonio's in Maitland. Craving pizza now. Could eat one for breakfast!

Banished two cats from bedroom last night; let Percy stay as he is a good sleeper. Grayson howled pitifully and threw himself at the bedroom door for half an hour. Gave up and let him in. All was well until 0230 when he and Jo-Riley (who was still banished as she's the one who runs across my head) started boxing each other's paws under the bedroom door. Gave up and let Jo-Riley in. All was well, with JR on my feet, Percy on my right and Grayson on my left, but by then I was wide awake and read for a while.

The forgotten hip didn't stay forgotten, of course, but having it feel completely normal even for a short time is a harbinger of great times ahead for all of us:) No pain since, just that little tightness.

Hi Sissy, going to tag Jo, she has two beautiful cats and I know she will appreciate seeing your photo Josephine - meet one of the warrior girls :)

Hope you had a wonderful bike ride sissy, one day activity, one day rest is my prescription :)

Hugs to all the warrior girls reading this and of course much love to our Jo xx

Thanks, Poppet! I'll have to post pics of Jo-Riley and Percy, too, or they will be jealous.

I think I'm at the place where I can do two active days then one of relative rest. I've taken ibuprofen 200mg only twice in the last week, and I'm feeling just great this morning. (Sorry, Jo, I just get no benefit from tylenol, not even 1000mg---I guess everyone's chemistry is a little different. I have friends who swear by Alleve, and it makes me nauseated. Go figure.)

So later today I'll go hiking with my new Keen hiking shoes! I've just been using walking shoes till now, as I had given away my last pair of hikers when I thought I'd never been able to walk far again.

You are amazing woman!

You must have been quite fit prior to surgery?

Are you retired?
